On the rare occasion we have a full squad who doesn't get on the subs bench? (What a turnaround in situation from a few weeks ago eh!)

Hamer,Davies,Seriki,Shackleton,Moore and possibly a new CB to come back

Obviously Blacker, RND and Brewster out with Moore available?

I think RND and Oné of recent ‘regulars’ go out on loan but that leaves 24 on my early-morning-so-it-might-be-wrong list

20-man match day squad, which must include 7 homegrown players, 1 development, and max 5 loanees *

A club developed player is any player who was at the club for 'at least 12 months prior to the end of his Under 19 season'; basically, anyone who was signed to the club for at least a year as a teenager (even if they were out on loan).

They’re the 4 I’d leave out as well. I think we’ll need all of them with fitness and availability issues though.
 
Shackleton, Brooks, and 2 from 4 of Clarke, Seriki, McCallum and Brewster. Sakyi is also a contender if he wants to carry on playing as he has been

I wouldn't be surprised if it gets more difficult either because I'm not convinced the CB will be the last signing

Get RND and Baptise out on loan to L1. Presumably Oné will go too. I don't consider any of the rest to be genuine first team players

Yeah. From my suggested squad, Brooks, Peck, Seriki I think all class as development. Faxon could go on the bench if we are short and happy with the risk

Worst case, if you don’t include one in the squad, you can only have a 19-man matchday squad
 
Shackleton, Brewster, RND and Oné haven't looked up to the standard this season, and would be way down the pecking order in their respective positions, so they're the obvious choices for me.

I haven't seen Choudhury kick a ball for us yet, so I'm happy to be proved wrong on this, but I think if Arblaster is fit, he's not going to get a look in either.
 
Arblaster is out long term so he'll miss out, probably Shackleton as well when he comes back from injury as we have since signed Choudhury (CM) and Harry Clarke (RB).

Seriki's fitness is an issue so depends on whether he stays fit enough to start/be on the bench most weeks.

Blacker will probably go back to the U21's, Baptiste might do as well.

Not sure about Faxon as Adam Davies has been missing from the bench a few times this season.

Oné, Marsh and hopefully Hampson will go out on loan, wouldn't mind if RND did as well.

Discounting the long term injury of Arblaster, we should get a clear indication of what our starting 11 and bench looks like when Hamer, Tom Davies, Seriki and Moore are back.
 
I suppose that's when Wilder CAN be judged on his set up and Plan B.
He can pick a team and squad that will enable him to adapt mid game. People think subs are for fresh legs and injury replacements, but with 5 now available, constant formation and style adjustments are made as the game unfolds.

Based on today's team, when Hamer returns I would have thought O'Hare or Brewster would drop out

This is a good problem to have.
 

Seems insane that Brooks is being considered to drop out of the squad entirely. Looked like our best player early January. Tough decisions, but good we're in that position at last.
 
Tough question.

RND is arguably the poorest of the players. But is the instant replacement for Robbo, allows us to play a back 5 or go more defensive.

Shackleton would be out for me. Been quite disappointing. Maybe injuries have hampered him but can only judge on what he’s produced which isn’t loads.

Gilchrist for me is one of the poorer players in our side. Especially if Seriki is on the bench. If we signed a centre half I would choose him to drop out.

One to go out on loan. Filled a big gap and done it valiantly. He needs to learn his trade elsewhere for a year or so ready to come back and be our first team player.

Brooks another on the list. He had 2 games where he’s excellent followed by games where he looks truly awful. This is obviously a consistency issue rather than an ability issue. He is young and needs to work on this side of his game. Could do with a loan as I see his minutes very limited now we have seasoned professionals playing.
 
An extremely difficult choice, with the realities of professional football this probably wont happen having a full squad fit and fresh.

One view i’m surprised about is people considering leaving Sydie Peck out of the matchday squad. Doesn’t have the all round qualities of a Souza (yet). However we’ve come to the position of being 2nd with the joint most points collected with Sydie being at the heart of that team. There will be games and times he will be vital. Thinking Watford at home 1-0 up, perfect energy infusion to see a game out.

The bench quality will be the difference in majority of games I think and probably the difference between us going up. How many other championship clubs expect parachute payment ones could field a fully professional bench I wonder (no inexperienced youth players)
 
Now that the transfer window is shut and our main business is done (if we sign this Caceres it won't be for first team) would go for something like this against Portsmouth.

I've dropped O'Hare and chosen to start Cannon over Campbell, with the more difficult Middlesbrough game soon after I'd rather save Campbell and O'Hare for that game, and hope Cannon might get off the mark against Portsmouth.

If Tom Davies isn't back, put Brewster on the bench.

We're going to need more lockers installed at Shirecliffe!

It's a huge squad. 29 if you include Faxon. We have exhausted the limit of 25 seniors plus Peck, One, Faxon and the Bulgarian/Nigerian lad under 21 on 1 January.

It'll be a moveable feast who gets left out of the matchday squad... A keeper, RND, Shackleton, and the two new lads are an obvious five out of nine. Moore, Seriki, and T Davies (injured) brings it to 8 plus maybe One.
 
I think with Harry Clarke in and looked good in the last game it could be Alfie Gilchrist who suffers and ends up being left out

I think Brewster will be ahead of Brooks in the pecking order.

Brooks really let himself down over the last few games & Brewster has been better & seems more up for the games which Wilder will love.

I’m not a fan of the 6 loan scenario. However Choudhury, Clarke, BBD, Holding haven’t played many games for their parent clubs this season so aren’t 100% fit & JRS is still returning back to fitness. I think it’s likely Gilchrist will be in the squad more than we expect.
 

Whoever plays it certainly makes you look forward to the match more.
