i think next season the blades need to sighn to good centre halves. A big factor to messing up this season is Nigel clough falling out with butler and Collins,(2 solid centre backs) also I am not a fan of coutts as he makes to many mistakes in midfield. Maybe have a go at Connor coady or Jimmy Ryan?

Something like that, he was a brilliant player it would be great.

I think we let him go and put all our eggs in the "wallace basket" didn't we? Both proven at this level to be fair, both quality but trust us to sign the one who plays 5 games per season.

yep looking forward to next season just hope we sign quality and be entertained for once.

The fee Huddersfield paid Liverpool wasn't as clear-cut as it may seem. For the amount paid (~£350k) an extremely highly youth player (whose name currently escapes me) went the other way as part of the deal. If it has been a straight sale, the amount would have been much closer to the £1m quoted when we enquired.

That said, even at that price he still looks good value compared to some of the others we've blown money on this season.

Coady and context - when Clough enquired about Coady Liverpool put a price tag of £1.3mil on the player. This remained in place as the pre-season continued and Clough needed to get players in. There was no point hanging about, waiting to see how this developed or not and discovering that we'd not have a chance to sign anyone at all. Some time later, by which time Clough had signed players, Coady's valuation had changed to, I believe, £400K. A serious drop admittedly, but by then things had moved on and Clough had looked elsewhere.

Mouth of the South appears to have an accurate take on this deal. My point is I don't think it was as simple as described by some of the posts above.

Clint Hill & Richard Dunne are being released by QPR. Old they might be but they could do us a job for at least 1 season, remember those old oldies we have had at CB who did it for us. Plus no fee involved!

I can't fucking stand clint hill. Dirty moaning wanker. He is the kind of player we do need at centre half though. If he was a few years younger I'd say go for him but can he do a full season in league 1?

Hopefully Hull go down and think "Fuck it lets just give 'em Maguire back" and just forget about the apparent 2.5 mil they apparently gave us

Ugo Ehiogu was still class for us. Every time he looked like he'd been skinned, go go gadget long legs came out of nowhere and just took the ball off the attacker.

If we could afford Dunne, I'd definitely have him here.

I see Danny Shittu got released as well. He must be about 500 by now.

The wages would be a issue for starters . QPR have more than enough players just taking there wages and not contributing much . Not the type of players we need at Lane . Phil Thompson , Ken McNaught come to mind.

McGrath was the master of that, but he was also nippy over short distances.

Grant at Crewe is a good central midfielder,Bradshaw of Walsall good goalscorer and Jamie Ward on the right with Flynn at right back

Think he was once described as "the World's fastest fat man".
Oh you must have remembered my post in 2002! I was talking to my mate who is from Cookstown but now lives in Scunthorpe on the way to watch Blades v Man City in Jan 2002. He was telling me that Richard Dunne is one of the fastest players in the league. When I saw Richard Dunn on the field in that match, I noticed that he had big thighs that didnt really look muscular. He made one of Man City's goal after a long sprint on the right side towards the Lane End before crossing the ball to the scorer. He was quick!
