Ben Whiteman has left Bramall Lane on a permanent basis, with Doncaster Rovers paying an undisclosed fee to acquire his services.

The 21-year-old impressed whilst on-loan at the Keepmoat Stadium during the first-half of the season, scoring seven times in 30 appearances. In total, Whiteman made 12 appearances for the Blades having made his debut against Crewe Alexandra in the FA Cup in November 2014.

Boss Chris Wilder believes the midfielder will benefit from playing first-team football on a consistent basis. He remarked: "Ben leaves with our best wishes and we hope he picks up from where he left off at Doncaster.

"It would be tough for him to get into our side at present given the strength we have in that area of the team, but should Ben's career progress as we think it could, then, as a club, we've covered ourselves for the future in terms of a sell-on."
