Eau contraire dear boy, defending down the left channel is very much a problem & hopefully he is the first of a few decent signings, either on loan or permanent. It takes many pieces to make a jigsaw complete. Or summat.

Our defence is the source of our problems currently and it’s the first thing to change.
Not only is the lack of height and ability a serious weakness (as proven against Birmingham) the lack of pace means we’re at least 10 if not 20 years deeper than we should be. Davies allows us to defend much higher with the safety net of pace to get us back if we misjudge the ball over the top.
Offensively this pushes our Midfield up the pitch, allows our full backs to push on more and should put our forwards in better positions to get chances closer to goal.

On board with the rest. A big part of our problem since losing JOC has been a shaky defence. And as we let in soft goal after soft goal we became even more scared to throw bodies forward and press high up the pitch which in turn has led to a lack of goals. I'd still like a creative player but getting the back line solid again is essential. That and just in terms of squad depth we've started the season with Egan, Basham, and Robinson as the only options aside from untried youth players.

I'd say defending is pretty woeful mate. How does the guy circled score from that cross? Doesn't happen with JOC and Stevens there.



Osborn is starting to get drawn to the ball. If Jutkiewicz (#9) wins it, that's on Robinson...


He's now been drawn in too far and is now under the ball...



He's now got to spin around to track the ball...



But even so, he should still be winning that...

Our defending is a problem and we look like we could concede every times team attack. Birmingham in particular had far less of the ball than us but constantly caused us problems when they did go forward.

Unfortunately our midfield and attack is also a problem so hopefully that’ll be addressed too!

Defending was Fulhams problem as well.
But they had players that will score goals and create chances.

They can always score more than the opposition in the Championship, but less than the opposition in the Premier League

But at least there is entertainment.

We don't do that sort of thing, entertainment is not good, versatile grafters who are crap at football but work hard are much better

Playing a 2 man midfield is going to cause us problems, the wing backs are not going to be able to push on because there need to bail the midfield out.

Wilder did it very literally with them getting into the final third jokanovic used them to start attacks playing the ball out from the back quickly and with pace one and two touch football. Thus far we’ve been a long way off that but Davies can do it he will help to speed up our build up. We still need creative players capable of hurting teams but adding Davies makes getting the ball to those hypothetical creative players in dangerous areas easier.

You've hit the nail on the head. I think this is exactly why SJ has brought Davies in. The attacking impetus starts from the back with his sides.

We were struggling scoring goals the season before last when our defence was one of the best in the prem. So our lack of fire power is firmly down to mid field and our forwards , our lack of goals is a longer lasting problem than our defensive problems.
