The two flanks, now orchestrated by Norwood form the basis of our wonderful system.

But which of the two sides is stronger?

And on that basis, where, if anywhere should we be looking to improve longer-term (without getting above our station of course, our squad are fantastic).

That Chinese one I reckon.

(srsly, it's impossible to pick lately. Baldock has had the best season out of the wing backs, Bash has been outstanding for so long and better going forward than Jack, but Fleck has been our best midfielder this season arguably)

Fleck swings it.

George and Enda, even.

Bash Vs O'Connell, Bash edges it for his driving runs that give us a kick up the arse.

Fleck Vs Lundstram, Fleck ahead on goal contributions.

Individuals within each triad may have had varying performance levels but when taking judging as teams within a team, I don't think you can put a fag paper between each.

What I would say is that we seem to attack most down the left, and generally with more width from deeper positions. So I think our opponents worry about us the most on this flank. On the right our best attacks seem to start with Bash making more central runs [something which JOC is not as comfortable doing on the opposite side] with the attacking play shifting very wide, and further up the pitch before the final ball is made.

We are like an orthodox boxer; probing, jabbing and scoring more points with the left. Then occasionally sending in a belter from the right.

At least that's how my infantile mind makes sense of it these days!

I think the attacking styles are different.

If breaking from deep we seem to get Stevens or Fleck into a crossing position very quickly (perhaps assisted by one of the forwards), but on the right Baldock or Lunny will sprint up to half way then check back.

If controlling the ball high up the pitch, on the right they’ll play neat little triangles, keep moving and probing and often get someone in behind. On the left if they can’t work a crossing angle or play someone into the box they’re more likely to work the ball back to Norwood sooner.

Maybe at home it’s more counter attacking in the first half (more effective down the left) and more sustained possession second half (better down the right)?

No way does Bash edge JOC. No chance. JOC is head and shoulder above, as much as I love Bash. He’s absolutely faultless every week.

I really enjoy watching baldock play - the effort and engine he has are outstanding.

He is about as sound a full back defensively as I can remember for us and looks equally as good against top level PL as he did in the championship.

after an solid if unspectacular start for us (like Stevens tbh) he’s is one that has only got better and better. enda has more quality attacking wise imo but over the last couple of months baldock has shaded it for me.
