I've had this conversation dozens/hundreds of times over the last 40 or 50 years.

Q: Which team do you support?
A: United.

What's changed is people have stopped asking me if I mean Man United.

Really happy days.

Not sure if you‘re an out of towner.....but over the last 40 years I’d hardly met anyone local thinking United was the one from Manchester.
They have always been known as “Man U”. Of course when you travel around...especially London....they always assume United is the Manchester club.

Well I hope you corrected them and said, "I'm talking about the original "United" - Sheffield United - the world's oldest United, playing at the oldest professional football stadium in the world"

and then finished it off with,

"Hey! There's no bigger Blade than me!"

I just say United and then I always make a point of saying "the original United, Sheffield United" if anyone asks which United or looks at me quizzically :):) UTB

I live in Derbyshire and there’s always been more ManU ‘fans’ around and about than any other team. Most of them were born and bread in these parts, I’ve got 3 neighbours who reckon they support them and to my knowledge they’ve never ever set foot in Old Trafford. I keep asking them if they’ve got cricked necks from looking up at us. 😉

Anyway, a couple of weeks ago we were having a drink in Matlock and talking about football to a couple who supported Macclesfield Town and when I said I supported United, he said ’Sheffield?’ Never mentioned Manchester and they both went on to praise us to high heaven.

I was elated, so proud. I‘d only had to Say ‘United’ and the Mighty Blades were the first team that came into his head. Of course the Mrs had to go and spoil it all as we walked away by pointing out that I’d got a Blades badge on mi beanie hat! 😕

I wish the blades would but a banner up at bramall lane saying something like " THE ORIGINAL UNITED, ALL THE REST ARE POOR IMITATIONS "

Seems a bit too desperate that. Let's just be Sheffield

Only by saying United will we educate the arrogance of Man U fans who seem to have adopted United as their own. A mission not helped by wankbreath media referring to Man U as United. The televised game against Man U had my blood boiling with the constant reference to United when there were two on the pitch.

However, Finishing the season as the highest placed United in the land (and world?) will be a right boost to the campaign.

One United First United Sheffield United...

The height of pundit ignorance. They've been doing it for decades.
