Which player coming in this week would turn your pessimism around? Serious names and not Messi

At this stage, any safe, reliable Championship level centre back. Doesn't need to be Hughes /Tanganga level. I'd take a Michal Helik / Marc McGuiness / Lewis Gibson type
Thought about Helik before. Oxford might want a decent fee though. I do think one of our CBs needs to be very dependable and experienced. I don't think it will happen though.

I've liked the look of Ethan Pye. Left sided CB at Stockport. only 6ft but 21 and highly rated. A few other Championship clubs have been sniffing and I think they're after £3 million. bring in an experienced bigger CB on loan as well. Worral, maybe. And then look at bringing a talented teen CB in (assuming Robbo is going).

Would think we have 6 or 7 irons in the fire and Bettis is playing poker regards who blinks first.

Therefore wouldn’t surprise me if no one comes in this week.
He’ll leave it to the last few days of the window, then I’d guess at least 3, maybe 4 players will come in.

The problem is when you leave it really late there’s an element of luck, we might be 90% sure of certain players coming in but Bettis has been told we need to wait until the other clubs have replacements.

The problem is if the other club doesn’t get their replacement then our gentleman’s agreement falls through too.

Alvin Stardust

Despite the fact that he's dead I could definitely go for that. Mr Rock and fucking Roll himself and not only that, The Green Cross Code man to boot. Be smart, be safe 😉

🎶🎶 Coo, coo, I just want you, I really love the things that you do, come on and love a me too I want to be your Coo Ca Choo 🎶🎶

Sweet cheatin' Rita was a classic as well.

Someone must have a name to cheer me and others up if they signed.
I'll tell you what mate, I hadn't really thought of it that way but you're so right. If we're not going to spend on anyone decent, let's just go for names to cheer us up.

The problem when u leave it late is you are still stuck with the same shit defence for the next 3 league games !!!

Now that's what I'm talking about

I've been watching this lad since he came to play for Seattle Sounders in 2017. Absolutely love him. He'll run through brick walls for you, do stuff that defenders don't do anymore and watching him play you can tell he loves the game.

He man marked Mo Salah in the African Cup a couple of years back and Salah never got a sniff. He'd be a Lane legend if he played for us, cracking player. Tolo Nouhou, even his name is great.

UTBFTP 👊👊👊

Mepham might be available at Bournemouth, him and Hughes would surely settle us down, the others would be a bonus
It's funny how we'd now be so grateful for Mepham - W*lder would have probably signed him straightaway, along with Dunne, and we'd now be stable rather than all over the place

Chris Mepham

I appreciate he's not linked with us but ticks all the boxes for me and isnt out of our reach.

Charlie Hughes/Callum Doyle/Anselmo McNulty
Where have you got him from McNulty? Seems a good find in terms of stats anyway.

But yes. In with you in this.

I know he’s not a lefty hut swapping Robbo for Gilchrist achieves a lot in my view, Gilchrist has Robbo’s spirit but he’s also got years ahead of him.

There’s no concrete links to him unfortunately he’s just a player who I’ve thought would be a really good fit for us the last few years. Nicolaus_Copernicus likes him as well and apparently he’s been watched by several championship and prem clubs for a while now but no one has pulled the trigger. He’d be a great fit for us and we’d be a good fit for him at this point in his career.

I’ll take you and Nicolaus_Copernicus over, checks notes, some bloke who plays poker. 😉

Think it’s safe to say we can forget the likes of Hughes and Doyle
Imagine it will be a loan, if Robinson starts it will be one CB

Difficult to get excited about centre half's , remember Keith Edwards once saying it was a position for thick ugly lads who couldn't play football .

Realise the game has changed but knew nothing about Souter before he came but he was a colossus , not sure how intelligent he was but ticked one box at least .

In general I think we should be looking very seriously at the Irish lads who’ve gone abroad and had success early on in their careers it seems like a popular route now for Irish players as an alternative to signing for an English academy there’s a few who are now probably needing that stepping stone move before getting to one of Europe’s top leagues.

Isaac Price was another one I really liked and he went to West Brom last January and hit the ground running.
