Over the last few seasons sky's selection process of championship games has basically been whoever Leeds have been playing, but this season this seems to be changing, particularly at the moment where we find ourselves to be sky's new love interest. So I'm wondering what sort of dilemma the commentators will have when they speak about their new flame and their former lover. David Pruttons history rules him out of my wonderings

I watched the EFL highlights on Quest (a sub-division of Sky) on Wednesday. Introducing the Leeds game, the commentator said (summat like) 'Is this it? Is Leeds' long wait for a return to the Premiership coming to an end?'

Fuck me. I thought the PL were keeping a seat warm for Wednesday?

There love will lie wherever they think it will make their wallet bulge even more!

Did you not see how many times we were on last season too? This isn't new.

Sky basically love Blades, FL's Derby, Leeds and Villa, in no particular order. With a sprinkle of WBA on top

Given that they over-hype every game they show, both teams will be stuffed full of galacticos who are set to rival Messi for a shirt at Barca.

Dirty Leeds will just nick it in the commentary-box jizz stakes, partly because “there is not a supporter in the country who would begrudge them a return to the big time”, etc, and partly because they are managed by some Super Gaffer Hybrid of Early Wenger and Stephen Hawking, from a planet far away on the edge of the known Marvel Universe.

There won't be any affections.

Both clubs will be praised because they're having a good season but on the whole Sky's coverage will be neutral just like it always will.

That won't stop paranoid Blades fans getting hysterical over every little thing though.

Given the choice, they would prefer Leeds in the Prem, only slightly ahead of Frank Lampard's team, I forget which one it is........

The thing that I’ve found funny was

1: When we played Derby away some fans on their forum weren’t happy with the Sky pundits (especially Rosenior) and the commentators saying it was like they wanting us to win. Rosenior did seem like a Blades fan going on about how great we were in the 1st half. He said Sheffield United were so impressive and like the home team first half because they dominated Derby so much pushing them back. He said it’s rare that a team can go to Derby and make them look like the away team.

2: When we played at home to Wednesday. On the Owlstalk forum many weren’t happy about the Sky “love in`’ towards us. They hated how all the Sky attention and expectation seemed to be bias towards us, They felt Sky wanted us to win.

3: I watched the Rotherham away game and again they don’t waste any time using the same cliches about Sheffield United.
They were generally trying to big us up and didn’t mention Rotherham as much. Comments like
‘You can guarantee that Sheffield United will play on the front foot. Even away from home they are very attack minded”
‘Mark Duffy is a high quality player and all the creation comes from him”
‘Norwood is a great signing at this level and has the best passing stats in the league”
‘The attacking centre back style is a unique feature of Sheff United, look how Basham is sometimes the furthest forward”

It’s a big novelty because when Warnock was manager the cliches Sky used were
‘You know it’s goung to be tough playing Sheffield United”
‘SU are so organised and physically strong‘: etc etc. It was generally the same comments under Bassett too.

Don't forget Jack Duckworth

I also think it's a case, with us, of commentators liking to show that they do actually know about the way we play now and can therefore make themselves look like they are doing a decent job. Unlike that clown a few weeks ago (can't remember who) in one of the previews who came out with the 'you know what you'll get, big hard team who like to get the ball forward as quick as they can'.

There's no doubt Tufty is a media darling in that he says it how it is and more importantly, his team backs it up more often than not. I think most pundits would welcome us in the Prem under him, not least of all because we would go for games regardless but I still think they would prefer Leeds and Frank's team because it makes for better headlines.

They have been very complimentary to us when we've played well and less so when we've been shit.

Agree, over the last couple of years, their attitude towards United has changed drastically and we appear to be the object of their affections.

Which is nice when you think that we never fucking win when we are the main event!!

Paul Parker I think

Well I think the first half has left no one in any doubt. We should be down to 9 men, according to the impartial commentators.

There is absolutely no doubt who Goodman is behind, & it isn't us.

Who really cares. We got beat today so the Leeds Coronation proceeds onwards.
