Where to Strengthen in the Summer

As I've said elsewhere, all we really need is a game changing Number 9 and Coutts back. Those two make everyone else better!!

As an example, Mitrovic and Coutts with an improving Brooks and we're serious contenders!

What do you think the chances of Utd signing a £13m striker are?

About the same as Coutts being able to perform at anywhere close to the level he was at prior to his injury before the the end of 2018 (at very earliest) IMHO.

O'Connell is a mid/top half centre half.

Stearman is a mid table centre half.

Basham is a bottom half/League 1 centre half.

It shows.

That's an honest assessment which I agree with.

To all the posters on here - do we simply want to be a mid table "Ipswich" look a like (which is where we are heading) or do we actually WANT to challenge consistently for top 6, to give ourselves a chance of going up?

Some of our fans need to take sentiment out of "anyone" who wears a R&W shirt and be realistic.

Fulham & Wolves have shown recently what is needed - we have between 5 and 7 who aren't good enough consistently in the present team. If some want to step up and get better, then they had better start and do it - as CW's comments after the Hull game weren't said lightly. He isn't going to sit on sentiment and that was crystal clear.

It's going to be so hard to sign strikers, certainly on permanent deals.

Anderlecht received £11.5m plus bonuses for him. Partizan Belgrade received £1.6m as a 20% sell on. Anderlecht will also receive 5% of any subsequent sale by Newcastle. He's on £33k a week basic, with £16k win bonus & £8k for a draw. Supposedly Newcastle want £20m in the summer to get him off the books. Fulham must be covering at least £20k to £25k a week of his wages during the loan spell.

Out of interest, who are the 5-7 you think aren't good enough consistently at the moment?

Thanks NC. So to conclude - there is as much chance of Utd signing him as there is of them also going in for Messi and Neymar in the summer

I've tried to knock a bit of a list together for players with contracts expiring this summer that I think we could try to go in for based on what I mentioned in my last post. Bit stumped on GK position though.

Sammy Ameobi. ST. Been injured recently but a mainstay for Bolton. Big guy, brings a bit of pace, good age, left footed, can play up front, out wide or as a CAM. Signed during their transfer embargo so he wouldn't cost the world.

Isaac Vassell ST. Had strong start for Blackpool but missed a fair amount recently due to injury. Adds pace and strength and with him being there since they were in league 2 last season could be a good low risk punt.

Jack Robinson CB/LWB. had massive issues with injury before but seems to have that behind him now. Was Liverpools youngest debutant back in t'day. Been playing CB for QPR but has played left back and left wing in the past. Been their captain so has that leadership quality that wilder seems to look for.

Mark Beevers CB. another Bolton player. Left footer who has been playing in a back 3 so would be good competition for O'Connell. Strong tall bloke who is good in the air so I think he'd do well in the Stearman position too.

Reece James LWB. been hampered with injury in the past again but seems to have that behind him. Mainstay in Wigan squad this season so should be more that enough competition for stevens

Erhun Oztumer CAM for Walsall. Been linked before with him so not much else to add. Chips in with a fair few goals which is something Duffy seems to lack. If Brooks goes he could be a good cost effective replacement.

Adedeji Oshilaja CB. Catching the eye of a few teams along with George Long at Wimbledon. Good age again. Has pace, strength and moves forward well so seems like an ideal player to work in our overlapping CB system. Has also been deployed in a sweeper role so would be good to push Stearman on as well.
