Where Is A Good Finish?

I think with sensible investment we can realistically aim for upper mid-table. The Championship will be very strong next year IMO.

Did any of us expect us to do as well we have this season .

News , media , papers jumped on the band wagon and sung the Eddie Howe praises . The skies the limit , and none of us know we're we will land or finish up with this Wilder fella at the helm .

One thing we all could put a months mortgage on - we ain't going back into league 1 with Wilder in charge .

I believe the current team would stay up but be 3 quarters down the league.

With 2 or 3 major signings (which I expect us to do) pretty confident we will finish mid table.

I'm expecting a similar season to what Barnsley have done this season.
Comfortable mid table with some brief flirtations just outside the playoffs.

But the great thing is that Wilder ALWAYS does better than my expectation
He seems to have the Midas touch and to be honest we're capable of anything with Wilder in charge.

Really?
Sunderland are generally awfull. Boro not much better.
I'd say the 3 likely teams going down from the Championship are bigger than those coming up from Lg 1 with the exception of us.
I have seen a reasonable amount of Champ football on tv this season and most, not all hasn't given me cause for concern.

Investment is key. Why shouldn't Wilder,Knill and the players aim to go straight up. Not much point in getting to the Championship and not want to get higher. Plenty in the Prem have done it with much smaller crowds and backing.
Wilder has got a juggernaut moving. They can be hard to stop.

Not one to usually agree with seanbeenstattoo but why not? SBT is spot on with the reasons why we can progress. I was one of the first to hold myself to ridicule by saying we would blitz league 1 this season so I'll stick my head above the parapet again. Top 6!

It scares me when someone agrees with me.

Sean , totally agree with you . Not seen any team or football to write home about . The big bigger thing which can make a difference is this dam parachute payment . However it's not had that major effect this season , so why should it next season .

Existing team anywhere between 13th and 17th because I don't think even this team would get relegated

With improvements to the FIRST TEAM not the SQUAD we could be mid table comfortably.

The squad is good enough already, we do not need the same bullshit coming out of the club as before.
The following words should be banned from our club when it comes to signing players:

Improving the squad,
Versatility,
Cover,
Provides an option,
Has a good attitude,
Ever such a good lad,
Has Premier League experience,
I knew him from ............he's never let me down,
Struggled with injury, but if he stays fit he's a good player
Need somebody like him in the dressing room

Any new signings have to be made with a view that they are first teamers, that way you get a whole squad of first teamers, and do not have to recycle 30 odd squad players every week trying to find a formula that isn't going to work.

You can have all the parachute payments you want and not invest them wisely. We should know.
Money per se dosen't guarantee success, look at Man Citeh. Any fool can buy the best 11 players in the world with enough money. That dosen't make a team.
Don't undersetimate the power of Wilder. Seriously.

I'm proper scared now.:oops::eek:

We should be happy with anything in the top 15 or so. I'd be delighted with anything higher than 10th, obviously the football from us has been transcendent in League 1 but we need to stop getting excited and realise how steep a challenge next season will be. I trust Wilder to identify good targets for first team football, and I trust the board to back him. We won't be getting relegated but I don't think we should expect anything more than mid table.

There is nobody, and I repeat nobody associated with this club, who is going to be "happy" with a bottom half finish next season. Seems some have been falling for the piggy hype.

Anything that isn't relegation, but I have hunch things will be much better than that.

I see your point, but I'm more talking about teams already in champ that will be much stronger next year. Derby, Villa, Norwich, Fulham (if they don't go up) will be very good, and a lot of mid table teams will also improve. We certainly won't be pushovers next season, but it's a building project, and it'll take a couple of years to content.

Avoiding the drop would be a good start and first season. A great season would be finishing around mid table, getting the players use daily to championship football and building from there.

22-24 = absolute failure
18-21 = primary objective achieved but a bit underwhelming.
14-17= decent season- steady progress.
10-13 = Good season.
7-9 = excellent effort to get close to the playoffs.
3-6= absolutely fantastic- Give Wilder the keys to the city.
1-2 = Wilder is god and goes down in the history books as one of our all time great managers.
That^^^^. At this point in time. May be worth revising when the next transfer window closes

And hype is all it is - they only finished 18th, and Huddersfield 19th, in their first seasons back.
