OK so the dust is beginning to settle and we have 4 more excellent goals to add to the hall of fame. So where do they rate?
Is anyone better than Michael Browns or Alan Quinn's goals?
Duffy's goal must be up there, and that free kick was tactical genius.
Your thoughts please?

They are ALL good.

They don't have to be 'rated', so just play them again and enjoy the moment.

Then perhaps, play them again......

....and again

....and again (repeat to fade)
 
For the timing and absolutely devastating impact of a quality goal that meant the game would be ours makes Duffy's the all time favourite for me.
Browny's did a similar thing, and was a top drawer finish. Beattie's did a similar thing, but neither had the raw emotional impact (and still is 3 days later) on BOTH sides that Duffy's did.

That is hard to argue against chippy, plus it was in their own shitty back yard, oh and it was live on Sky and we were in for a smacking, Duffy for me
 
As the game progressed Fleck's free kick goal reminded me of Waddle's in 1993 due to its timing. Their first goal reminded me of Cork's equalizer in the same game once again due to its timing.

Leon's second reminded me of Bobby Davison's first in 1992 due to the mix up in their defence like Chris Wood's poor piece of goalkeeping.

Not really answered the question but to me the goals and the whole occasion puts it up there top of the list.
 
Duffy's for me.
It was 5 years in the making.
The Wilder revolution, the league win, the new found optimism...
but giving up a 2 goal lead, was the old united back? Were we going to mess it up on our biggest stage? The huge momentum shift, the bouncing!

Then a few twists, turns, boom, order is restored.
It felt like I had been snapped out of a nightmare and I remembered that I no longer have to doubt my teams drive and bottle. Everyone went mental, the pigs stopped bouncing and the new era kept on rolling!
 
In no particular order:

Beattie free kick
Tonge free kick
Brown volley
Akinbiyi volley
Deane nutmeg
Duffy bounce killer

They have to be my favourite 6. I wasn't at the Bobby Davison game.

Duffy's will take some beating though, it has to be said.
 
Mark Duffy has gone top for me, by some distance. Brown's was superb, as was Beattie's, but for what it means, Mark Duffy has scored the most important goal in a steel city Derby in my lifetime. I've never once celebrated a goal anything like this one.

Have to agree Jesus - Brown's goal was clearly such a classy strike but in terms of the timing just a minute after their equaliser that sent them into a bouncing frenzy - Duffy the bouncing slayer's goal edges it for me.
I cant remember having such emotion in a derby in my 55 years as that goal and I guess it was because I realised we would go on to win as we had instantly killed their momentum and enthusiasm and stunned players and fans alike.
6 years of sniggering, sniding arrogance causing such pent up fury exploded at THAT moment

Arise Sir Mark Duffy - Bounce killer extraordinaire !
 
Duffys goal just beats Bobby Davisons for importance.

It's up there with Pescilido's as the most memorable goal supporting the Blades.

Will live long in the memory, the timing of despair to elation was incredible. Got to admit I lost it and I wasn't even at the match.

I'm still buzzing now and still feel like we've just scored. I'm walking round with a permanent smile on my face.

It's a sign of how far we've come :) .
I don't think that any United team of the past would have surrendered a 2-goal lead and then come back to win the game.
 
All decent goals but for me Duffy's is right up there with Brownie's or Akinbyi's the way the tub thumping and bouncing trailed off as he got into the penalty area was a joy to see. The way he turned the next Dutch superstar one way then the other (think he left the field with his shorts on back to front and inside out) before nearly ripping the net apart .............. what a magic moment.
 
Brown's volley was like the finest steak you'll ever eat at a 5* restaurant. Magnificent and never to be forgotten, but also what you would expect at such a hostelry.
Duffy's was like being at a BBQ with a load of your best mates, you're having a whale of a time and have eaten and imbibed superbly well. However it's just started pissing it down threatening the entire day, when all of a sudden the skies clear and a stunning bird appears in a bikini with the biggest tray of desserts you've ever seen in your life.
 
If it comes down to timing then I agree about Duffy. Brownie is still the best strike though. What a time to be a Blade. Couldn't have imagined this a year ago. :)
 
I'll remember Duffy's goal forever. Time just stopped. It was a quality goal and a combination of shock and joy as it hit the net.

But I celebrated Clarke's second more - because that's the one that gave us the game and sealed something I never thought I'd see.

Those two are both legends now, there's no doubt about it. It's just brilliant that two guys like them, 30+ year old cheap lower league signings, went on to have such an impact in a game like that.
 
Brown's is still the best.

Duffy's and Fleck's were very good goals though. Think the pigs have to be very disappointed with the defending on both of Lion's. He did well to finish them though.

Except Wendy had a wall for Fleck's goal on Sunday, the 1993 Waddle 'Wonder Strike' saw only one United player in line with the ball and the goal. I prefer Fleck's goal to Duffy's, probably because the camera angles showed it better.

So if the stunning bird with the tray of deserts turned up at the 5* restaurant, what would the decision be and what if it was just overcast but not actually raining?

:D my roundabout point was that whilst Brown's was certainly the better goal, Duffy's was a more pleasing experience. There have been screamers before in derby matches and will be again, but the combination of quality, timing and atmosphere surrounding Duffy's goal make it one of the most exquisite moments in SUFC's history. I'm not exaggerating, I think it's a moment that will be passed down from generation to generation, and talked about for as long as SUFC exists.

Now, if the dessert bird turned up at the 5* restaurant, we would presumably be talking about a goal of Browny's quality and Duffy's significance. I can't make any guarantees that such a scenario wouldn't have caused a ripple in spacetime, possibly opening a portal to a hitherto unknown dimension, and, happily a few hours after the fans had departed, sucked that shithole of a stadium into a black hole, never to be seen again.
 
Another similarity to a previous Derby. 1970 at the Lane, we were 2-0 up and they pulled it back to 2-2. John Harris brought on a sub, John Tudor who scored the winner by nutmegging Grummitt.

We have this tendency of nutmegging them.

Broke their hearts that day just like Sunday.
 
It’s prob selective memory but we seem to score a greater number of screamers against Wednesday that any other club.

I'm surprised Brown's goal is rated so much higher than Duffy's. Browny 'just' hit it. It was as good a volley as you'll ever see, absolutely perfect but Duffy's skill to turn the full back inside out and then finish from such a tight angle was also top notch. I love goals like that.
 



It's got to be the bounce killer, Duffy.

The birth of The Bouncing Day massacre, to be celebrated for the next 5 decades.
