When is a foul not a foul

Our players need to go down like other players do. I don't like it, but you have to these days. Force the referee to make a decision. Burke should have gone down, Lunny should have done as well. You'd like to think had they done so, we'd have got at least one of the decisions in our favour.

I don't think Egan should have been sent off. It was 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

Similar in the ManU v Spurs game today. Martial sent off and Lamela got away with provocation - they should both have been booked

He won't have such a thing. They aren't accountable. Dermot will be on ref watch on sky saying Mason got it right anyway. Its bullshit.
 
On the plus side what a goal from didsy.bet var spent at least 10 mins trying to find a reason to dissallow it
 
Let's face facts. Either the F.A. and/or the Premier League and/or PGMOL do not like Sheffield United. For whatever reason.

2007 They didn't help us and just shrugged and went West Ham broke rules? Ah well.

Last season:
Lundstrum big toe... there was a full passage of play after that event happened... complete bull shit decision NOT clear and obvious

It is soooo blatantly obvious refs do give preference to these "bigger teams"... they are the money makers... probably paying the refs off too.

Sheffield United and the city in general have contributed so much to the world of football. Whether it be the first floodlit game or the 1st ever PL goal. I'm not saying these organisations or anybody OWES us something... But a little bit of respect and decent communication wouldn't go a miss. By communication I mean we still to this day don't have a proper explanation just a sorry for the Hawkeye debacle. The PL didnt really expand on this, they just gave a short statement on their website pretty much mirroring what Hawkeye said in their appology. Also this about Wilder waiting for this phone call about Egans red card.

Football to an extent is probably fixed. We KNOW football is corrupt. (FIFA, agents, 3rd party ownership, rigging ballots, betting companies, wages and transfers) and there have been many more examples over the past 10 or so years. Just look recently over the past season, especially in recent weeks... high profile managers (Pep, Klopp, Hodgson and a few more) have been calling out the Premier League or the authorities in general for a variety of things like player welfare, the laws of the game, VAR. Do they respond? Usually no. But if they do it's usually a generic statement "we cannot comment on ongoing... blah blah blah"

Sometimes I wish refs would just fuck off and let the captains and managers decide, let the players knock 10 tons of shit out of each other. Maybe have a guy like VAR but with a remit that actually gives them some power to intervene and act as an arbiter if things get really heated and are in deadlock. And call offsides when they are actually offside... Maybe have a klaxon go off for offside 🤣. I am of course being a little bit silly and this post shouldn't be taken with full seriousness ;)

Sorry to bore everyone, but in 2007 the PL did more than just 'not help us'
When WHU were trying to get permission to play Tevez again at end of season, Scudamore told West Ham he'd be available to help them 24 hours a day to sort things out with the illegal contract CT had signed.

The problem lies in the "clear and obvious error by the on field ref" VAR rule.

At Villa, ref sent Egan off. VAR doesn't see a clear and obvious error as it could be argued Watkins sprints away and scores.

At Arsenal, Ref doesn't send off Luiz. VAR reasons that Leno might have got there first anyway and therefore can't ask the ref to review.

This is why VAR is so ineffectual. Because the threshold for triggering the review is too damn high. The reviews now are being referred to the on field ref so why not have the rule be that if VAR suspects "any reason that the ref has made a mistake on a possible red card or hand ball", the ref is then asked to review the on field monitor. Because the monitor review is a pointless exercise if the threshold for it is "mate you've made a total bollocks of that one", and the ref will always overturn because in essence he is being told he's got it totally wrong before he even looks at the pictures.

Which makes the whole thing ridiculous. VAR is supposed to help them with things that are missed. Not check things they already see. It's fucking stupid.
 
The refs got to be blind or bias not to see that. vars excuse we were just having a sip of our coffee at that precise moment so missed it
 
Your right.if you could get as many free kicks as grealish does in a match we definately get more chances to create something from the free kicks gained in a game

We should all take comfort from the fact Mike Riley has been finally shamed into phoning CW and telling him the decisions to send off Egan and not award Berge a foul in the build up to the Weeds goal were incorrect. Thanks Mike you useless two hat maybe you could have told CW before the Weeds game so we could have appealed the red card.

On 8 previous occasions when Mason has been ref for Arsenal games they have won seven. Contrast that with the last six where he has been in charge of us and we haven't won one and they say there is no top six bias. Yesterday he gave nothing at all for the Luiz shirt pull. VAR gets away with not considering it because he made no decision.

Again clubs are finding out about the rules after an incident that has gone against Sheffield United as it did last season. Isn't the fact Mason chose to ignore a clear foul that prevented a goal scoring opportunity and a red card offence a clear and obvious error. Whats the point of VAR if they can't pick up the ref when he doesn't see anything. In Masons case as CW said he chose to bottle it. If that had been one of our players he would have sent them off.

Thats three blatant errors already this season, what sanctions are being taken against Scott, Tierney and Mason? A period down grading them to the EFL surely has to happen or does that only happen when you fail to give Newton Heath a penalty. The league would be better for them being absent for a period.

Interesting when a top six team in Spurs have a decision go against them as in the Eric Dier penalty against the Bar Codes the outcry is such refs are given revised guidelines. Don't hold your breath for the new rules being issued on preventing a goal scoring opportunity as it was little ole Sheff U involved. Incredible that someone as incompetent as Riley is still in a job.

Please, get bothered again about VAR, if we the football fans/supporters aren't bothered it will never be put right, I believe it can be rectified. If it can't be put right then it want's to be abandoned. Not 'just' for the the Blades, for pro football in general.
On the money reference Blades shortcomings. Only the management and players can sort that. Given a level playing field recon they will stay in this league
By the way, where were your match highlights Sunday? I rely on them for my first and sometimes only visuals on games.:confused:
