When Basham...

...was sliding about on the edge of the area and then next minute running onto McGoldrick’s flick ons. Fucking hell, I couldn’t stop pissing myself. :D Could it be the start of an unlikely front two?

The lads engine is phenomenal, he must cover a marathon every game!

Really enjoyed that too, and agree re his fitness. I said last season that I have never seen a physically fitter Blades player, and his levels have only increased if anything.

Mrs Basham must be a very happy woman!

Basham is one of the great under appreciated Wilder successes, he has turned from a hard working but unspectacular midfielder / centre back and is now Mr Sheffield United.
Fuck off, never a "Proper footballer".

Can't say I've noticed any Basham hate, what are two reffering to?

Not saying Bash gets a lot of criticism, but he never wins MOTM or seems to be in contention, and some people were saying just this last week Cranie should start in front of him.

I think he has been absolutely immense from the moment CW stepped through the door

For me, Basham is llayer of the season. Always turns up and pits a shift in. Off the top of my head I can think of one game that he wasn’t at his best but he’s like a machine

The reason he never gets man of match is because it's voted for by children on Twitter, it's generally won by an attacking player or Henderson - he's gets MoM regularly.
I was one of the people wondering about Cranie starting ahead of Basham too and it wasn't meant as a criticism of Basham in the slightest:
Basham had lost his place through suspension, Cranie came in and performed admirably, while helping us keep consecutive clean sheets - I felt he probabaly deserved to start based on the merit of his performances rather than because I prefer him to Basham.

You're right: he's been out of this world since Wilder came in

Apparently he dribbles too much before he shoots!

I remember saying about him in the past that he had the classic utility player's problem of not quite being good enough in any given position to hold down a place. He's gone from that to an outstanding all round player. If he didn't look so clumsy he'd get a lot more credit for how well he runs with the ball. So much of our play depends on him being able to bring the ball out from defence, to get into advanced positions, all while being a rock in defence.

Not the most glamorous player, not the one who steals headlines, but probably the most consistent performer in the team. You need players like that who, even if they aren't MOTM, are a guaranteed 7/10 or better every time they play. Would definitely be one of my contenders for POTS.

A pity nothing came of his interception just outside their penalty area. It went a bit 'after you Claude', no-one wanted to pull the trigger and in the end McGoldrick's attempted pass to Sharp was cut out.

Watch him closely down that right side tonight, helping Cranie second half especially. The lad showed a ridiculous amount of energy, determination and desire, often closing several players down one after the other. Absolute colossus.

He’s a strange one. If you could pick one or two positions to improve on next season then he’d likely be near the top of my list. Can’t really head it, can’t kick it, pretty poor one-on-one, gives away stupid free kicks. Then on the other hand you really can’t underestimate just how well he plays that right sided centre half role. Cannot fault any part of his energy, enthusiasm, application, desire or workrate!

I appreciate him. Especially his surging runs forward.

You're correct in that but omit that he, along with Billy, were the only two players to emerge with credit from the Adkins season. He's been our stand out player consistently for the past 3 seasons, consistently being the operative word. Never misses a game unless suspended, never has a stinker. Name me another.

*Edit: Nearly 4 seasons now.

Towards the end of the match last night when we knew the match was won, Henderson had the ball in his hands, Bash turned round to him, they gave each other the biggest fist pump and Bash let out a massive roar that would have made Chewbacca wimper.... such a brilliant moment to see.

To add to that, when he shook hands with the ref at the end of the game, the adrenalin must have run out because he collapsed onto his knees, he was absolutely fucking knackered. I can't find words to praise the guy highly enough sometimes.

I think you’re being very harsh on his abilities. He’s a lot better than essentially being described as someone who runs around a lot.

Possibly, but he’s really not great from a technical point - which I’m sure he’d admit or concede himself. I think he’s at that stage where he knows his own limits and uses what he has in the most effective way. He’s by no means a donkey though! I did say he plays that role very well and it’ll be big job to find a player who offers an ability to get forward from that position with such regularity whilst forming an integral part of a back 3.
