First this is NOT a blackwell out post before the season has even started. It seems as though every website and paper have us down for a mid table finish. So i ask do you think the board would be happy with a mid table finish and the job blackwell will have done?

Promotion anything else and I think Speed will be given the job.

I think he mounted an impassioned and decent defence of his position last season and set out what and how he wants to change things this time around. Good enough for me and I think he'll only get the shove if we plateau around halfway and McCabe starts getting some of the flak instead.

Nothing to do with ambition really but Blackwell will have had plenty of chance to get Promotion time for a new broom should he fail again. Unless there is a total turn around i.e. Arsenal type football in which we fail in the play off final might keep him at the reins, but I don't think too many of us would have a problem in that case.

Is his contract up at the end of this season?

If there is the change of emphasis to playing entertaining football that has been promised, and requested by both clappers and knockers, then I can see anywhere between 6 and 10th as being accepted by the board.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly there. He gave that bloke who asked the question the hair dryer treatment but I thought the question was a bit disrespectful and badly timed. From that point of view I was pleased to see him say what he said.

I do think he needs to change now though, or he'll be looking for a new job come christmas. I'm hopeful we can have a good season though. I will be delighted if KB is still manager come may because it will mean we have had a good season.

Give him a level playing field i.e. no injuries and constant new loan players coming in and we'll be Play Offs at least.

I said this last season all the way. If we'd not had to chop and change we'd have got in the play offs. If that means we need new physio's then so be it. Something must be wrong in training as everybody seems to get injured.

Blackwell should be asking the question as to why Henderson wasn't sent for an op after the Hillsborough game last year and if nobody realised he need a op then why? Does that mean that the docs and physios aren't doing their jobs?

Back to point - No injury curse and we'll be top 6

Given that he will fail dismally on the pitch, the only thing that will keep Blackwell in a job is if his next door neighbour wants someone to cut her lawn

Good football. But the omens are mixed. He continues to favour deadly dull 4-5-1 and his favourite non-footballers will continue to 'perform' in our midfield.

Oh, nearly forgot: The Joke!

Blackwell OUT before he does another 12 months damage.

Didn't he sign a year extension, meaning that there is another year after this?

As far as the boards is concerned then he is doing his job. The wage bill is decreasing, we are being kept in the black with incoming transfer fees and remaining competitive. I don't expect the board will sack him unless we start to flirt with relegation and/or there is a massive backlash from fans (i.e. like car park protests). The thing is that most fans seem to accept KB being in charge and are generally apathetic. I'm expecting a mid table finish and hence won't be protesting if we are stuck down in 13th or sumert. hence I think he'll probably stay until the end of the season. If he doesn't take us up, after 3 pops at the cherry, then I think there'll probably be a 'mutual agreement for him to move aside'. Whilstever we look for investment and Blackwell carries out orders (see above in italics) then I think he'll stay in the job.

What Blackwell needs to do is believe in himself and the players. We have seen the evidence on the pitch that he can play proper football but he appears to lack belief and resorts to hoof. You don't need to play hoof to get out of this division. A solid back four, one defensive midfielder (Monty or Ertl) at least one proper speedy winger and at least 1 quick striker who knows how to finish and we would walk this league

You see I thought the 4-5-1 this season was more 4-2-3-1.

Agree completely, the brief would have been 'keep us competitive whilst we slash the wage bill', which, regardless of whether you like the man and his tactics, he's done.

The same will apply this season but, without injuries and mutliple team changes every week, his main excuse from last season will have gone so I'm pretty sure he will be judged accordingly but, as Olly says, not until the end of the season unless the worst happens.

I honestly don't think he has the whole season this time round.

Also, you have to add into the mix that it's the keeper and defenders who do the actual hoofing. Hopefully, Simmo will be instructed to roll it out more often and again, hopefully, the defenders will look for a pass rather than hoofing. Britton will be crucial this season for linking play and it shows also why we need two decent full backs. Certainly at the game on Sunday, Simmo was looking for the full backs regularly and we did look to pass ball out wide from defence rather than hoofing.

I've mentioned it before but last season Naysmith said that you have to blame the players on occasions for hoofing it as it's the easy option, not something they're instructed to do.

I agree, Speed is not here for nothing. the only thing that can save Blackwell is being in the top 6 at the New Year. I think he could also get canned if we fall away from there, or if we are struggling at any point after the first 6 to 8 games.

If Speed isn't being lined up why are we turning down decent money bids for a coach? He isn't even assistant manager (not officially anyway) despite what the press keep saying.

I'm not having a dig but last season you kept posting that Sean O Driscoll was lined up to take over? What happened to that?

watchable football.. at least top half after ten games

Thats a realistic aim. One that the football purists amongst us should probably accept as an outcome.

Personally, I always look for playoffs minimum from United. Mainly because I feel a club our size should be aiming for that. I think we're an outside bet for it this year so perhaps my expectations arent quite as high as usual. I just want to see us trying to win every game. No matter how we go about it..........winning is the most important factor for me - more than anything else!
