What could be our undoing....

We go back to where we were last season, teams now setting up to counter us. But we're a very dynamic side, individual changes make small but significant differences

People now fearing Brooks-Clarke, but what about the differences that Ched, Billy, Clayton all bring.
Brooks-Clarke? We've not signed another one with a double-barrelled name, have we? I struggle nowadays with one name. And what about CVC or VCC or whatever he's called? Seems to have three surnames, as far as I can make out. Now we're playing like Brazil, can't all our players be given single names, like Pele and Neymar? Is that Fred still available?

think we are still not giving enough credit to the players we have
most football today is turgid tactical tooing and froing
the invention and flair we are showing , the trickery will take a lot of teams apart

A secondary question is - what will the crowd response be if we don't manage to break down a stubborn defence?
Still support us even if the team is frustrated on the pitch (even appreciate the difficulty they're facing?)
OR, moan like billy-o about useless strikers?

Hopefully after the enjoyment and excitement we've had with CW - appreciation!
I think we've already seen the reaction . 1-0 defeat to Norwich followed by "we love united" chants. Only interrupted by a break to boo the ref off.

At the moment we really are supporting them as they deserve. long may it continue

We have had a fantastic start and in particualr the last few days. Most fans were probably worried how we would cope with losing our regular goalie from last season, our new centre back, our leading goalscorer plus Lavery, Donaldson, Freeman, Hanson and Carruthers. The answer is not at all. That is a massive credit to our signings and the management and their tactical skills. In a perverse way it has made us test the stand -ins and it has given Wilder much food for thought if and when they are all fit. Thinking we would rely on Sharpe we now have Leon Clarke bang in form plus Brooks who has only started because of injuries and has surprised us all at how he has taken to a full 90 minutes. Can he be left out? Players like Baldock and Lafferty have stepped up and made a seamless transition to the team. We are now second in the league having had all these problems just in the first 10 ganes. What have we to fear?

Our potential undoing at the moment is an injury to Coutts or Fleck. Everyone else we have adequate cover for, but they are key to how we play and if they got injured I imagine our effectiveness would diminish.
If we were without Fleck or Coutts then it would even things up against any opposition, as they already don’t have Fleck or Coutts.

The only thing that we've ever wanted is to attack teams with good football,
As long as we get that most games regardless of the score the fans will support the team enthusiastically

It's always a lot nicer to be respected that dismissed. But the Championship clubs must start to realise the jump between L1 and the Champ is not as big as the jump from Champ to Prem especially when a manager like Wilder had assembled a Championship team in League One.

Football league and the RSPB to dock us 150 points for playing exciting, entertaining attacking football, at request of the RSPB being cruel to animals i.e stuffing owls
ohhh finally for being SUFC

Hope that clarifies the situation

Is the respect we're starting to earn.

Teams will do a Norwich, a Wolves first half.

I thought we'd struggle to break wolves down, they looked to have a solid shape defending with 10 and like Norwich, we didn't get too many sniffs at goal. The goal coming of course meant they had to come out.

I can see most home games being like last season...albeit we will be up against a wall of championship players rather than league 1 players. We have to be patient and more importantly, have MOVEMENT.

Can't believe what's happening now....

Dare to dream?!

That's all very true, but I don't think any of that will be our undoing, which is the question you are asking isn't it? Teams putting 10 men behind the ball is business as usual for us - we had that for most of last season and it didn't "undo" us - so why should it "undo" us this season? Better level of football? Yes. But we are already showing it's not beyond our levels of competency to perform well at this level.

I think our "undoing", if indeed we are to be "undone", will be loss of key players through injuries or suspension and not having players of an equal capability to replace them. I can't really think of anything else.

So for example, if we lose Fleck or Coutts from midfield, who have we got that can tackle and drive forward with the ball like Fleck? No one. And who have we got that can collect the ball from defence and literally link up play across the whole of the team like Coutts does? No one. Either of these players would be key losses and I believe the game is often won or lost in midfield, it's the engine room of the team. So that would be my greatest concern.

:D I like that about him having three surnames. It's a bit of a social trend this isn't it? Giving your kids a surname for a Christian name. I know someone locally who has called her kids "Harrison" and "Crawford". I mean...what's all this about? Trying to be different are we? Trying to break away from working class roots because we feel slightly embarrassed about them, so we'll call our kids by some unusual name to make them stand out a bit, by name, if not by nature? The only problem is, every other wannabe with the same outlook has a similar idea. So you end up with classrooms full of kids with no Christian name - which takes all the fun out of teacher reading the school register and saying your name backwards!;)

I was thinking the same watching the games against Norwich and Wolves on iFollow. We're missing one weapon in our armoury. We're great at laying siege to the parked buses, and often if we keep probing, we'll pass our way down their flanks and back across goal. But, as we saw against Norwich, this was never going to happen - they were simply too defensive. Sometimes we need to pass, pass, pass then suddenly change tac with a ball through the middle and someone to power onto it (like Cardiff did to us first half at their place).

Luckily we have that weapon, albeit out with a hamstring injury at the moment. Step forward Sir Clayton Donaldson.

This is what I like about Wilder. He's realised the above problem and he's addressed it. Wait until we have a fully fit squad. When teams try to tactically outwit us, we'll just change it by 360 degrees and destroy them.

You won't always get a piss poor ref like we did against Norwich, he genuinely seemed not to know how to handle their time wasting.

Unfortunately, when it comes to timewasting, refs are almost exclusively piss poor and piss weak. Get the card out as soon as it starts and they know they can’t get away with it. Unfortunately, it just doesn’t seem to happen.
