After another abject display, what happens in training during the week? Obviously it will be fitness work (can’t get the Harry Enfield sketch out of my head though, with the players sparking a fag up). Are the players not fit enough or is the fitness work too much? Is not enough emphasis put on basic passing drills, e.g triangular passing movements, one two’s, off the ball movement, basic control of the ball. After six months without a win, what are the management/training team working on to stop the rot?

We all refer to the placing of articles slagging us off as motivation on the wall

Well prince should put on CWs wall the definition of insanity quote

Then take out the frame the usual suspects and let some of the squad have an opportunity to showcase themselves

I don’t mind been relegated

Just do it with some fuckin pride

Even my piggy ‘mates’ have backed off takin the piss, god when they actually have pity on us it’s a dark day indeed.

Charles 'Charlie' Charles of The Arsenal!
Lots of questions need answering at our club. It's truly mystifying.
I remember the days of the 'fluid, revolving triangular passing' we used to do. It was magic, wasn't it!
Those days are long gone. We were lucky to have been there, I guess.
Hopefully, We'll see it again one day and get excited.

They seem to spend a lot of time posing for a camera according to you tube.
The "let's get it, Brother" player expression particularly galls me!
Looking good and smiling at the camera seems to be 'all important' on social media for our lot, doesn't it?
I'd like to see the buggers working hard and sweating.
Modern world, I guess.

There's something seriously wrong with out post lockdown training.

Before lockdown, we looked athletic and pressed for long period of games. Players came off the pitch looking shattered but giving 110%. We ran until the final whistle.

After lockdown, we looked like a pub team in terms of fitness compared to most other clubs. Players started slow and looked shattered after 30 minutes. Subs come on and look like they're run a marathon after 15 minutes.

Something needs to change there. Whether that's giving them a week off or overhauling training sessions.

Our players need to be at peak fitness to be successful at this level. We're far, far below that.

After the Christmas period, give players the week off. Sod it. Tell them to rest up, get them in for light work the day before the game and see what happens.

It's seems it's like the last day of school, where you were allowed to bring your own game in to play

They don't practice long shots

They don't practice defending the long ball over the top

At least I hope they don't practice that because if they did their ability is even worse than I realized

It’s nothing to do with fitness. We ran 5km more than Everton.

It is simple football ability. Last night, we had three players (Robinson, Stevens and Osborn) who genuinely struggled to make simple passes across the back line under no pressure. I’m not blaming them - their ability is what it is. But you cannot expect to win top-flight matches with players as unskilled as that. Maybe if you supplement them with some top notch skilled players it might work. But our ‘match winners’ are David McGoldrick (generally derided as a lower league player), Oliver Burke (who hasn’t scored in something like 40 matches) and Rhian Brewster (who has never played at this level before). You can throw in a goalkeeper who can’t catch the ball and a loanee who looks fed up.

It is not about fitness.

Exactly this - to think that a lot of running and fitness is enough to compete at the highest level of world football is an absolute joke. You can panic a team like burton by having a high press but every team in the top flight will have the required composure to pass around it and run it out of danger. In possession i think this season we are the worst the prem has seen.

The premier league is all about technical ability. 11 runners and triers on the pitch who can sprint all day long but are limited footballers will get found out. We've been found out. The prem is all about technical ability, creativity mixed with athleticism. Athleticism isn’t enough on its own and unfortunately thats the ‘type’ of signing wilder loves. A trier, athletic that might have potential to step up. Unfortunately that isnt enough.

A quote from a recent article in the independent confirms that Wilders mentality in my view is way off the mark - you would expect this from non league not the prem.

‘Some sources point to the “basic” nature of Wilder’s training. Most Tuesdays involve a 5km run and the majority of pure football training is about organisational shape over any kind of coaching or developmental work.’

We have recruited poor quality in high quantity and all those ‘wilder type’ signings are nothing more than triers unfortunately. I cant knock their spirit but their ability is way short of the mark for this level.

Personally i think Wilder has been naive.

Players are not fucking stupid.

At this level, they are VERY aware of those that are winging it in training on a day to day basis. Very aware 😉.

When you can do a Paul McGrath, and boss it on match days, players will collectively give you that freedom.

When your on pitch performances are poor, it festers. Then it festers some more.

Then it becomes a problem !!!!!

I suspect despite the crushing disappointment of record breaking on field failure, they'll be training hard and working on routines, retaining possession etc (I know there's little evidence for it).

Maybe the problem is we lack at at least a couple of top quality players to bring on those around. Over the years there's been plenty of mediocre players who've looked good quality because of the players of high ability alongside.

No matter how hard they train, the team know the gaffer has consistently said we don't have the quality of much of the Premier League. Intended as a spur it seems eventually to have resulted in an inferiority mindset and maybe excuse in defeat.

Add to that knowing the league table says you're super, super rubbish it's a question of character as to how you cope and perform once you cross the touchline for the real thing.
