I'm sure I read somewhere that Fleck created more chances in the Championship last season than any other player. He was just very unlucky to not get many assists because people kept failing to put them away.

I'm liking the box to box role that Wilder has given him in last few games, he just needs a bit more support so he can start creating better chances.

We said as much on Saturday. A player that can cut through the defence of the European Champions, but yet apparently isn't good enough for the 52 nd best team in the world.

He could have had an assist on Saturday in the 2nd half.

Once he pulled that ball onto his right foot (which he uses only to stand on) he could have played a pass to Lundstram.

We would then have been celebrating our new leading goalscorer.

It's this decision making that'll be key to our season.

I'm sure BladesAnalytics said people are using "key passes" (any pass that results in a shot) over assists for this very reason.

At the start of the Summer I had it in my head that JOC and Fleck were the two players I was certain would shine at Prem level.

Have you watched it back? It seemed at the time he should have shot, but watching back now the angle wasn't great & VVD had positioned himself superbly to cover the right side of goal. I actually think cutting back was the correct thing to do, but he had a glorious opportunity to feint a shot, commit Robertson & slip in Lundstram for a golden opportunity. He panicked. As Robinson did on the clip above. These are the big moments which separate the elite from the rest.

If we sort these moments out we'll finish comfortably in mid-table. It's surprising me how poor the Prem is from a tactical standpoint. Outside of maybe 6-8 sides, the rest of the league is just throwing money at it & hoping good individuals get them over the line. In Wilder, I think we genuinely have one of the best coaches in the country at this moment in time. He's right to say he'd be dangerous with money.

The chance had gone as soon as Fleck made the decision to cut back onto his weaker foot, he's never as confident on his right, (as you say he panicked) and that allowed the Liverpool players to react.

VVD had positioned well but a thunderbolt from Fleck's left boot could have gone anywhere, (including row Z) deflected and in of Van Dyke, hit the keeper and spilled out to Robbo/Lunny or even smashed into the roof of the net.

He made the wrong choice for me but that is very easy for us fans to say with the benefit of hindsight..

I actually thought the we’d seen the last of John Fleck once we got Luke Freeman was in the side........But I am happy to be wrong.

It was indeed a fine pass from Fleck and he showed on Saturday what an asset he is to the side when he drives forward and takes on defenders. Don’t think he “panicked” on the chance which got blocked as I just think his decision-making was affected by what happened a few minutes earlier when he got into the box, might have shot but ended up trying to square it and it got cut out. He seemed to be kicking himself afterwards for not shooting and it was probably playing on his mind when the further opportunity came up.

And given the unfair (in my opinion) kicking McBurnie has had from one or two posters on the thread devoted to him, it’s worth pointing out that the quality of Fleck’s excellent pass to Robinson on Saturday was probably matched by Oli’s to McGoldrick in the Southampton game from the same part of the pitch. Both created great chances which should have been taken.

Absolutely. What a game Flecky had on Saturday, what a blinder. If only he'd cost £50m and was Portuguese then the pundits would be going crazy
