what a joy this division is
magnificent game of 2 good sides slugging it out in a cauldron of an arena
a game packed with incident talking points and high drama

the run in of 14 games is packed with mouth watering fixtures as probably 8 teams tussle for 2nd to Fulham and the 4 play off spots
I dont think anyone can call the final countdown
if we can beat middlesbro and bournemouth at home its going to be nip and tuck all the way

watching football has for now become entertaining again. It's what we want to see involvement to the bitter end .

It’s great to know that barring a collapse (unlikely but you never know) we’ll have something to play for until the end of the season. Under Slav we’d have been looking over our shoulders with Billy, Bash and Baldock sat rotting in the reserves.

I love this division, I think its the best, every game isnt a nailed on win for any team, but I also want success which means getting out of it. I know we have a lot fixtures, especially now, but it is a lot better than in the premiership where you very rarely play Saturdays and you can play a game and can wait a fortnight for the next one.

Agree with all that but the problem is if we keep winning we will be promoted back to the PL with VAR and defeats most weeks. I reckon teams that “get promoted“ should get the option to take the PL money for the season but opt to play in the Championship if they wish……..🤔 UTB

Its not the best.
Thats Division one with all those big clubs with years of tradition Portsmouth, Sunderland, Ipswich, Bolton.

Sorry I forgot one Charlton(Sorry Charlton fans).

I couldn't agree more Bb, it's true what they say "money corrupts everything". The PL is too rich , and every other club is wondering where the next penny is coming from. I think in the long run it's going to be the ruination of the beautiful game.

If there was no financial incentive I'd choose the championship all day long

It is a sad contradiction. I do love this division. A mixture of quality and humility and still simple fun in watching football. And at the same time, all I want is for us to get out of it....

I've said this very thing before.
Premier League teams get to defend their title. Football League teams don't. Maybe that's why the Americans go down the play off route at the end of season in many sports.

Anyway, there are ways to opt out and eligibility requirements. But the lure of PL football is too much.

Honestly when the blades aren't playing I rarely watch a full championship game. The quality is pretty poor. Makes for an exciting season to a degree but most 90 minutes not involving us are a slog to watch.

It's weird how you become used to a certain standard of football.

I remember our 1st game back in the Championship when we were at home to Brentford.
I was so impressed with Brentford, far better than anything seen in league 1.
During early matches in the Championship I was really impressed with oppostion teams, it was a noticeable step up from league 1.

Then we play 2 seasons in the Premier League and this season.
Our 1st match home to Birmingham I thought they were really poor.
Then unbelievably the next home game, Huddersfield looked even worse, they were shockingly poor. I predicted they were certs for relegation.

This season I've not seen any decent teams at Bramall Lane, weirdly the best team was WBA during the 1st 25 minutes but we ended up beating them quite comfortably.

Everyone stood around me on the Kop all agree that the standard in the Championship seems far worse than 3 years ago when we had Wilder as manager.
However someone commented that maybe the standard is the same or even better
but it appears worse because we are used to watching PL standard football, so in comparison the Championship seems poor.

What makes the championship work is there is no group of 6 clubs spending billions each year .the championship is usually 12 teams fighting to go up and 12 fighting to stay in the championship.
The prem is split into 3 groups of 7 7 and 6. Super rich clubs, medium long term members and 6 trying to avoid the drop.

I’d be happy staying in this league in some ways, the problem is the financial side of not being in the premiership

Personally I have always prefered the Championship over the Prem. The Prem is a closed shop now where normal clubs can not survive and are just cannon fodder for the bigger clubs. Money is King in the prem and if you can not afford to spend 30 40 or 50 mill on a players on a regular basis you will not be able to compete in the top flight . Much rather have a blood and guts battle like last night to watch rather than cheats and bias refs in the prem. Having said that they refs can not be any more bias than that bent git last night.

Premiership is the place to be. Beating Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs at the Lane. Getting draws in the away games when we were odds on to lose. Everyone was talking about us. It put us on the footballing map. There are drawbacks, not being able to get an away ticket unless you've got zillions of points. But it's still better. We could only sign players like Berge because we were in the Prem. We need to get back.
