Even if just one of these youngsters develops into a first teamer, I like the direction this is going in.

ill bet you said that when the kyles started to shine, too. never forget the academy is a production line, not a future super-team of self-developed talent.

Fo okin hell United showin sum ambition ............... hope we've got the reight man picking em !
Get sum more then ditch the dross that we have at BDTBL reight now pretending to be footballers

Not wanting to be overly critical of this given he's clearly signed as a development player or part of our partnership with the Mariners, but having seen the quality of the A-League, if he's 19 and yet to even start a game then I don't think we can expect too much in the foreseeable future, if at all. Were he League 2 standard aged 18, he'd probably have been an ever-present at the Mariners by now!

From one of my scouts who supports CCM:

typical Australian player as far as i've seen. Physically fit, a bit stocky, but his technique and first touch need a bit of work
he's a winger if i'm not mistaken too.. plays on the right
can take a decent set piece though... that's how Mariners are bred to work well with set pieces. But yes.. technique and first touch needs work.. crosses could be better too. If he gets to actually play for Sheffeild United i'll be amazed tbh

So an Aussie left-sided player that likes to play down the right, is a winger that gets played at full-back, who can't really cross and needs to work on his technique.

Welcome back David Carney! ;-)

Welcome back David Carney! ;-)

Saw him play this week in the Asian cup vs India. An ideal stage for the World's neshest Australian - crap opposition who were all 5 foot 8 or under and slim with it.

*** Checks family tree to see if there's any Indian antecedants****

Here we go. Written off before he's even kicked a ball.

Not writing off, simply trying to lower expectations. I'm sure if Adams sees substantial development, he'll be quite rightly given a chance. Of all the people coming in, this player has the least first-team experience, so I think it's fair enough that we don't expect to see much of him.

Our luck with injuries though, he may be the only fit left-back in a couple of weeks....

Good to see United are recruiting short and long term players. What I would be doing with this lad though, is giving him the odd 10 minute sub appearance. Its ok having him training with the development squad and having Pembo assess him, but we need to see if these young players can stand up to the glare of first team exposure. Where possible we should try to give these lads a few minutes here and there for the experience and as incentive!

I keep seeing that players are being signed / added to the "Development Squad". Forgive my ignorance but what is it?

Is it the reserves?

What league do they play in, and against whom?

I think they'll play in both first team and reserves with the bench being the bridge. It's in effect a reserve side, with a stress on youth.

I get the impression that this is some way of legitimising our overseas investments. I fully expect a Hungarian or two join up soon. Not got a problem with that. It's about time we started looking a raw young talent from abroad.

The development squad is under Pembo's control. It is made up of youngsters who aren't good enough for the first team but have potential to move up.
It is also where we can look at young trailists from other clubs.

At a guess (total superposition on my part here) we will have some players earning £5-10K a week in the reserves and filling the bench. If you can get the youngsters to the same level as the reserves then you can make massive savings instead of paying very average experienced pro's a fortune to make up the squad.

Nowt wrong with that, up until the point where the youngsters become the average pro's them selves of course.

Once they reach mediocrity they are elevated to our Hall of Fame and lauded as heroes.

Very true, but it's £10M less shit that we're in now, either way.

Aye, press the "ditch" button McCabe. It's at the side of the "spend some more money" and "get some decent players" buttons.

but then because they have come through the club their contracts will be inline with our wage structure and there is no signing on fees etc. Its just easier to maintain a level.

Exactly - if they're going to be shite, they might as well be our shite. :D
