I still feel we lack a physical presence, some of the mascots are bigger than some of our players.

We were running rings around them until they hit the post then they got the ball in the air, eased us off the ball and played over our midfield. Game over!

It's a worry for me. Our style remains constant. We generally concede the first half without turning up, and pull it around. Not tonight because we were truly shite all night, but the first half result flattered us.

We didn't seem to be able to mi it up at all, and I dread meeting someone like Preston in the playoff's. Of course we could win, but it's a long way from certain.

A few of tonight's crop should be really worried. I fail to see what Baxter offers at all, and Scougall is only any good off the ball. Too many players are not prepared, or are incapable of doing anything other than looking for a sideways ball into dead space.

Fortunately, we can change it from here. Let's hope there'a step up in quality and not just quantity. We look nothing more than play-off contenders at the moment.

We failed to close the game out, we got bullied.

Personally thought that it was the ideal gane for higdon today

It could've been a lot more than 3!
Yes, and many will turn out the usual crap about Preston and Grayson being just dirty.

They have a manager who has proved that he knows how to get teams out of this division. They were much better than us tonight.

They were certainly dirty again, but tonight unlike a few weeks back at the lane and second half away in the cup, they were organised and hit us on the break.

They rattled us, I noticed that we started surrounding the ref after they scored and they really did a 'professional' job on us.

McNulty and JCR were pretty anonymous today.

Higdon played well two weeks ago at Deepdale, and I was surprised he was not starting tonight, he gave them a rough ride last time, started to impose himself.

We are bullied week in, week out. It's been said many times, without an 'enforcer' that will continue and we will lose out. It shouldn't be so but pure football in this league will get you to no where inparticular.

We lost a game of football . Move on

Thankfully we lost a game of football , in the cup ,and not in the league. All them on here on about automatic , forget it.

Concentrate on the playoffs . More negatives than positives for me last night.

I would say that last night

Howard, Basham and Murphy played well

Doyle, Flynn and McNulty worked hard but got no joy

and the rest were completely anonymous apart from the odd cock up

Clough's Plan A has served us well in the cups. Preston have played us enough recently to know there is no Plan B ( hasn't been for 16 months) and by last night they were ready for us.

However, this is our old squad and with all the new players we can now move on. The big question is whether we have a new Plan A. Interestingly Done is not tall.

Physical presence is definitely something that needs to be balanced out if we're to get out of this filthy forgotten quagmire of a league.

Smaller, more mobile players with better touch might flatter to deceive against teams who aren't especially robust and who we can pass around, but as soon as we meet an opposition of bruisers we just hit a brick wall. Midfield battle becomes a war of attrition and set pieces, well, forget it.

Indeed Higdon and Diego worked well together at Deepdale and could actually looked like they had goals in them.
They could have been the key partnership for beating sides like Preston in L1.

Unfortunately we've now added a few more midfielders to the mix and just like the start of the season we are no nearer knowing what the best 11 is.

The physical presence you speak of was supposed to be Wallace. He was lined up apparently to play centre mid with Basham (pre season) but circumstances have led us to where we are now. Seeing as we don't now have that presence and Basham will almost certainly be CH for the rest of the season, it is an area we may sadly struggle with. Perhaps Coutts has been brought in for that - next few games might show us.

Many close games are settled by Set plays. We have conceded from 3 free kicks and a corner recently, whereas we rarely threaten from them. Frankly we never look likely to score from a corner (unless the goalie drops the ball like at QPR) What are we doing to address this?

Kennedy could step into the CH position to push Basham into CM with Coats Scoogs is to lightweight and has lost his edge, he needed Coady to play off.

we have to go on what we have that played v Swindon to see out thelast 21 games , not what played last night , being cup tied meant we played the remnants of the slightly improved last seasons squad , what we played v Swindon is what we are assaulting the table with now , only time will tell
