Agreed, some great vision. But for a decade, zero delivery.Never one to duck a challenge.
For starters we have:
(Admittedly this is taking a few/lots of things at face value.)
- a management team with a very strong (the strongest?) track record of promotion from this division
- a clear vision for a smaller (in numbers) fitter, better quality squad meaning...
- ..."consistency in team selection" (which does seem important)
- players not up to promotion standard moved on (well, some of them anyway)...
- ...clearing space in the team...
- ...and in the budget
- an identified playing style (not 3-5-2)
- a vision of what a Sheffield United player looks like meaning...
- ...square pegs in square holes
- a strong internal structure (pathway for youth, effective recovery protocols etc)
At team level I think/hope* we are very well run.
Above that? I thought McCabe was very unimpressive at the FF.
If we've dug down this season it's because we've been laying foundations for our glorious future.
*"Hope" because I can see good reasons for most of what's gone wrong this season so I'm hoping that we will recruit very well over the summer - because if we don't we could be down here for a very long time. And fwiw my two biggest reservations about Adkins are (1) substitutions - he's really poor at these (2) too much faith in youth when the young player is not up to the task: McFadzean at Gillingham haunts me to this day.
