We've done our bit

Never one to duck a challenge.

For starters we have:
  • a management team with a very strong (the strongest?) track record of promotion from this division
  • a clear vision for a smaller (in numbers) fitter, better quality squad meaning...
  • ..."consistency in team selection" (which does seem important)
  • players not up to promotion standard moved on (well, some of them anyway)...
  • ...clearing space in the team...
  • ...and in the budget
  • an identified playing style (not 3-5-2)
  • a vision of what a Sheffield United player looks like meaning...
  • ...square pegs in square holes
  • a strong internal structure (pathway for youth, effective recovery protocols etc)
(Admittedly this is taking a few/lots of things at face value.)

At team level I think/hope* we are very well run.

Above that? I thought McCabe was very unimpressive at the FF.

If we've dug down this season it's because we've been laying foundations for our glorious future.

*"Hope" because I can see good reasons for most of what's gone wrong this season so I'm hoping that we will recruit very well over the summer - because if we don't we could be down here for a very long time. And fwiw my two biggest reservations about Adkins are (1) substitutions - he's really poor at these (2) too much faith in youth when the young player is not up to the task: McFadzean at Gillingham haunts me to this day.
Agreed, some great vision. But for a decade, zero delivery.

"I sometimes wonder what it's like just being an ordinary fan"

Never gonna happen.

Appears that ST sales have gone well despite the disaster season, We've done our bit now over to you Nigel - shift the deadwood starting with Hammond
We ALWAYS do our bit S. A few have tried to blame fans for not getting behind players but I still maintain its the players that have failed to deliver for the fans. :(

Best supporters in the feckin world are the Blades.

The way I see it we've been staggering around blind (ie no vision) drunk for that decade. There's been no delivery bc there's been little or nothing to deliver on.

Now we do have a middle- to long-term vision - at team management level at least: a quota of tall players, a squad of robust players, consistent team, attacking football, playing through the thirds, chances for the nippers etc etc.

To me everything points to us delivering on *that* vision.

But this does not necessarily mean that the vision will, in turn, deliver success.

I think we'll find that out early next season. And if we aren't successful we could be here for a very long time.

Again, all true. But remember, we were talking about the fans being possed off. after a decade of abject failure, it takes more than vision to make people happy, we have to deliver.

You may be happy with things, but I'm certain you are in a tiny group.
