Not wanting to be controversial here, I was just sitting in my garden at one with nature and feeling disappointed about yesterday's result. I let my mind be open, unbiased, and took a view (not trying to step on your toes Roygbiv) of who and what we are.

The results of my morning meditation are.......

We are and old fashioned club proud of our history playing in the oldest professional ground in the world.
We have an old fashioned chairman who is a proud Blade, something that possibly clouds his judgement that is usually razor sharp in the business world.
We have an old fashioned blood and guts manager who would throw himself in front of a steam roller for the club.
We have a budget that buys us an old fashioned squad of hard working honest British players that will try to the best of their ability to grind out a result.

The game has moved on from the old fashioned ways, it's full of money, young foreign talent that has evolved where English talent hasn't (thanks to Murdock and Scudimore) and it's a world that 'we' as a club are resisting but there's no going back.

It's a bit like my 94 year old father-in-law wanting banks reopened, the Internet banned and cheque books to replace digital banking, it ain't going to happen.

Then in the wings we've got old BRP. Hes building a world wide network of sporting businesses, foreign investors, strategies and goals, a shrewd business mind and backers and lawyers that seems to have caught McCabe with his trousers down in a simple business maouver. He got foreign minds (Rip Van Winkle) who he has used in his national sporting network and who appears to have great European experience (only what I've got from media snippets).

Watching Swansea's young foreign players give us a lesson in speed and one touch ability yesterday made me feel we are on the wrong path in many ways. I'm getting on but not so much to resist change if it is for the betterment of SUFC and our British mentality and squad.

Before anything changes the two owners have got to sort out their differences, an issue created by McCabe going 50/50, is he that naive he thought he'd found a Jonny foreign investor he could trust? He's trying to win the fans to his side big time, why I don't know, in the hard cold world of business who's on you side is irrelevant. There will be only one winner, if it's McCabe he will flog us straight away to a Chinese billionaire consortium IMO. If it's BRP I don't know but he obviously has plans. It might work it could be a debacle like at S6 who knows?

There, got it off my chest. Think it's going to be a long hard season where the highlight might be us winning the battle (seemingly with no one) to sign the prolific team changing waghorn who will bring speed and an attacking mentality to the slow pondering team we turned out yesterday.

I need my pills and the emmerdale omnibus cause after following my mighty Blades for 60 years I know nowt about football.

Our old school manager has had us using some really modern methods of preparation using lots of data and sports science to collect it combined with old school coaching.

We’re a progressive football club in many ways.

We also play some excellent one touch football and our goal last night showed this.

We don’t have new premier league money.

And one day, being a Brit will be illegal an 'all.

Not wanting to sound negative but me and everyone round me was screaming for someone to shoot or put it in, we had players in the box. The build up looked more like an exercise of pass the feckin red hot parcel.

I hope you were having a nice cup of tea while contemplating?

Yep some decent comments from one of many (including me) disappointed Blades.

We could go foreign, but this would take years to bring to fruition whilst mistake with players would inevitably be made so we are stuck with our old fashioned ways for now.

IF we have an old fashioned squad, this old fashioned squad STILL needs a midfield that will/can dominate games and run the team. We lost midfield in the 2nd half and didn't capitalise in the first half when we did actually dominate play, but as usual had little skill/guile/thought process in and around their 18 yard box. Cannot for the life of me see why Duffy wasn't (a) started or (b) brought on when it was plainly obvious we needed control in the middle. We may not have won with Duffy and/or Woodburn, but we might have given ourselves a better chance to get something with out of the game.

We haven't learnt anything rom the 2nd half of the season.

If we are to lose games, we at least need to have a team playing in a way that can win games.

right...............my tea has brewed, so going to have it and read the paper.

It was. Brew of Lady Grey (Earl Grey with orange).

Would it take years? Get the right people and the right investment and it can be done in one season. Look at Bournemouth. IMO this season a write off until the board room battle is resolved, next season could then be dramatic with a fast moving picture, someone Is ready in the wings.

Totally agree re midfield apart from dominating the first half, we did what we do, we stopped them having the ball in midfield like we did against inter and they sussed us out second half. Are we paying the price of waiting for Coutts to come back and turn us around? I remember us waiting for Kaba to come back from a broken leg, broke his other leg first game back I think.

Felt up to my dry cured bacon sarny once I had finished my meditation and spewed my thoughts out on this thread. :)

I was in a cut throat business before I retired. One tactic in meetings was to suggest someone with differing views was negative, it stuck like glue to them and shut them up. I'm to long in the tooth to be branded negative but I wouldn't want to be branded blind to the obvious and I wouldn't let it stop me wanting things to change for the better.

The bog roll Prince has done fuck all for San Francisco 49ers what makes anyone think he could do anything here?

Not advocating the prince but there are only two possible outcomes as I see it. Him or McCabe who obviously is ready to sell up by triggering the clause trying to force BRP to buy him out. So much for McCabe only willing to sell to the right person, he was willing to let BRP have it all at a price.

Bit harsh, but this insistence on buying British players is ridiculous. We live in a global world with a global economy. We've had free movement of labour across Europe but never capitalised on it. Kev has been making excuses for not having a scouting network for years and years. It has been an obvious flaw for years and years. He's been quite happy to invest our money in football clubs around the world (by some ludicrous coincidence in precisely the same places he has major business interests) but not invest in the future of the club. Happy to use the club's name for his own private business benefits.

He saved the club but at the same time has essentially killed any chances of us ever being able to compete at the highest level.

And I was harsh ? ;):)

The only good thing about a poor start continuing on from a poor second half of season is it might put a sense of urgency into resolving boardroom issues
