An apostrophe or two would come in handy as well....

Have to say I'm reluctantly inclined to agree with BB on this one .... Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

We've never been big spenders, but that doesn't worry me too much. Were the bigger club in Sheffield and Yorkshire, thats a given, but the days of being a big fish in the Championship pond seem to have gone

We can't compete financially, so its now back to wheeling and dealing.

Bring on the good times. Giant killings, Playing for pride and scraping through to the play offs, but not quite making it to the final.

Heres to lower expectations and "just being happy to be here/there" and this time we can watch it on our new 2nd hand TV

If you were in charge the auctioneer would have slamed the hammer down on your picture plate as the last item sold due to liquidation of SUFC. The few Blades left who had not topped themselves would now be supporting Rotherham or Chesterfield.
? are you a Piggie in disguise.

If anyone believes that paying Kilgallon any more than 20k a week is reasonable, then you're off your rocker!

The average championship salary is probably around £5K a week.

I remain to be convinced that Kilgallon is much more than an average championship player.

If you're looking at an average taken over each team's whole squad you might be right but I reckon if you took an average of say, every teams supposed first XI you could double that comfortably.

I'd offer Killa no more than 12k a week. he's not worth any more than that. For all the players i've seen at the Lane, i would say he's by no means irreplaceable

... and he wants significantly more than that + bonuses.

The Independent did a survey in 2006 which found that the average championship salary was £3764 a week, With inflation, I reckon it must be now around £5K . At Kilgallon's age, the average in 2006 was only £2615.

What did emerge from the case of that Man Utd youth player (whose name escapes me) who sued Middlesbrough when his career was ended by injury was that there is a large gap between salaries paid by 2nd tier clubs with realistic aspirations of promotion and a history of playing in the PL and the others. I suppose United fall into the first gategory and so you may re right that the going rate for an estabished first team player at United is around £10K a week.

Since when was overpaying your staff classed as ambition?

I'm with Soton £20K should be our highest offer.

Just to clarify, i hope that 20k is the last offer. I'd have gone in with no more than 12k, and said take it or leave it. If he goes and get more money, good luck to him, but i bet you he ends up just like Claude Davis did when he went to Derby. Back in the Championship on a free within a couple of years

Funny this i new we would turn on killa funny how he told the truth last week about not being offered a contract and the next thing you know there is one on the table because blackie and the board got egg on there faces. I don't blame the lad the minute there is only 12 months left on my deal i'd expect a new one in front of me to show the club still wants me it shouldn't need him to speak on tv to get a new deal offered united new if they didn't offer one fans would turn on them. We never get the 100% truth because McCabe is a liar and blackie is learning fast. I'd be pissed off if i was killa and we'll never know what he is offered yes it will be affecting his performance but i don't believe it is his fault. We should know by now players are forced out of this club.

That's a very balanced viewpoint !

Why do you presume that Killa 'told the truth' last week ? Why don't you believe that we did indeed offer him an improved contract two weeks ago as the club have confirmed ? There's nothing wrong in wanting a new contract but demanding virtually double your money and the club refusing to be held to ransom doesn't equate to 'the club not wanting him'.

I agree to a certain extent that it's not entirely his fault, I think he's been
badly advised from the start but he did make a huge error going public with it last week.

SUFC have cocked up on the contract front, and there's similarities with Browny on this one but I don't think the club have done anything wrong here and as you quite rightly point out, we'll never know what figures / bonuses etc have been offered.

i have just seen it all before with us to many times thats why i believe him thats all.

Like you quoted brown for example and were sure Beattie, Tonge, Kyles etc etc were forced out may not be contract but we know it wasn't straight forward.

Don't want to get into a stupid argument but I was questioning your comment about presuming Killa had told the truth about not being offered a contract. None of those you mention fell into that catagory.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat??? Not one of those players had expiring contracts. Beattie did ask for shit loads of money but that was midway through his existing contract which the greedy git was more than happy to sign a year or so earlier. Tonge never expressed a desire to leave but we got a bloody good offer for him completely out of the blue, and we were victims of our own success in raising the Kyles. And I've never heard of "etc etc". Is he of African origin? Oriental maybe?

Agreed Darren, I think our captain fantastic makes him look a better player than he is, not tough/strong enough in my opinion.

So just to clear this up David, Killa said a few months ago that he was in discussions with the club about a new contract, then last week he said nothing had been discussed.

Are you saying he was telling the truth both times?
