My worry with Wilder is that he is fantastic at picking players on a budget and man managing down to earth players, but how would this translate if he ever has proper money to spend? Unless we had silly money to spend he would have to look abroad to bring in a better class of player and I'm not sure how good he would be at managing a team of better players form different backgrounds. More of a blood and thunder manager than a tippy tappy multicultural manager in my opionion.

What makes you think Wilder would even sign a 10 year contract?

If he is as ambitious as you say and as confident in his own ability he would be stupid to sign such a long contract.

That's the other side of the coin if you take my o.p. literally.

My intended main message in there is the duty of the fans to back him and make him feel like Mr. SUFC.

Nobody has picked up on that or even questioned the dig I had at the fans and their short term anxieties.

Wilder reminds me of Mourinho. He's a good manager, he knows he's a good manager, he's mardy, he'll achieve great things in the game (possibly with us) and ultimately he'll do what's best for Chris Wilder.

I don’t believe the fact that he is a United boyhood fan is incidental. Mourinho just chases the glory and the money, good luck to him

Do you think Leicester got his sacking right?
Good question. It seemed harsh at the time, but they were in real danger of getting relegated. In hindsight, you'd probably have to say it was the right decision.

Good points. If he carries on winning matches doesn’t matter does it ? Quite like the fact that all our guys are meat and two veg, although Brookes will move into stardom

Regardless of how the fans treat him or how much they make him feel like Mr SUFC he would be stupid to sign a 10 year contract if he believes in his own ability. It would cost him a lot of money and quite possibly a move to a club in a better position.

Not in S2 he hasn't. Nor overall IMO but debatable I suppose. Who has the momentum though Pedro?

Want him here? If not , what are you saying?

No I don't want him here. Happy with Wilder.
Adkins has got a better record than Guardiola in S2 using your logic.
As for overall record, Pardew's taken teams to the Premier League and FA Cup finals. Wilder may turn out to be a top manager but he's only won the 3rd and 4th division so far.

I totally agree with your sentiments here in the OP. I really believe in building a legacy in football, with a clear identity, character and style. We need Wilder here long term to achieve that. However, I think ten years is too long a contract for the reasons highlighted above it’d be counter productive. I’d give him a 5 year deal though. Huge bonus on promotion, huge bonus on us staying in the prem. It would help when signing players on 3 year deals, they’d know they were signing for a manager that was going to be in place for a long time and also deter against any player revolts if the dressing room turned on the manager.

It’s like any job you always want to be in the best position on the most money. CW dream is the Premiership with SUFC. But after that I imagine his dream is the Premiership.

He is asking on which way the club is going. If it’s going forward then CW will stay. It’s pretty simple.

We destroyed a poor Reading side (there squad was assembled for over £20million) one if there supporters was saying. It shows money doesn’t buy you success if you don’t have the right manager.

If we are to give anyone money to spend. CW has shown he can spend it better than anyone.

I thought we learned our lesson when we gave Porterfield a 10 year contract!!

3/4 year is fine with me with negotiations on a new contract starting well in advance of expiry.

Transfers do get more complicated in the Premier League but I see Wilder as Sean Dyche the second rather than many others.

If Wilder ever does get £5m to spend and chooses to spend it on one player I'd love to see who the player is. One thing for sure, the player would not be a 'prima-donna' and would be a worker every day of the week, he'd have to be!

Dyche spends over £10m on players these days. Woods £14m.

CW creates a good balance we always use the loan market well. I know we shop down the leagues etc but I want us to be able to pick up anyone that CW wants.

Us fans have mentioned players like Maddison etc but he would be £2-3million. Not sure CW thoughts on him as a player just an eg but for me it’s more a case of if CW idtentifies a player that’s in that price range it’s someone we should be getting.

If we are to cherry pick the best players then we have to be able to have the finances to choose the very best.

A 10 year contract isn’t good for either side, all managers have a shelf life and eventually Wilder will reach his. 2 year rolling contracts with sensible compensation clauses and club renewal options should guard against him being poached as well as keep him keen.

If you can give me an example of where a 10 year contract has benefitted a club I’ll be shocked.

I cannot give any likes to this, because of the blatant Andy Townsend-like pluralisation of individuals. As in “Your Man Uniteds and your Arsenals of this world.”

Consider this a warning, young man. :D

I always think of this when pluralisation comes up:

I'd give Wilder and Knoll new 10 yearcontracts now or at least when/if we are mathematically promoted. I've seen and heard enough already including Duffy' s interview recently.

Mitchell maybe 5 years.

This club needs continuity and will have a minimum of 5m extra income if we go up. This is a seriously good way to spend some of it.

Mr. McCabe it took you an age to come up with Wilder and you acted boldly and decisively when you snatched him from Charlton. Be bold again and sit back for a few years and watch the journey unfold.

The club is United at last, nail it down.

Missed opportunities. Still not too late United.
