Wendy fan MP concerned about crushing at Bramall Lane.

To be fair, I was there and this was a real issue.

First of all let me qualify what I mean. In no way was there any risk of a Hillsborough style tragedy. However, there was a significant risk of a child, elderly person or less mobile person getting a serious injury.

More over for me personally, the issue was the time it took to get in the ground.

I arrived at the ground at 7.20pm and got into the ground just before 8pm. There was only 2,000 of us, it shouldn't have been that difficult. 40 minutes to get in is unacceptable. When I got into the ground there was still a few hundred fans outside.

I can honestly say that in all my time watching football, I have never been to a ground where access was so slow. Therefore, this does need looking at.

However, to me it wasn't clear whether the fault lay with the ground or the police (or both). There were 2 turnstiles to the right that I believe were operational. However the police didn't appear to have enough personnel to ringfence this as well as the others. Therefore, they wouldn't let Wednesday fans use them until 7.45pm when most United fans had entered the ground.

Whoever was at fault, it needs resolving because to be quite frank, it was a farce.

You've answered your own question there were not enough SYP to police the extra turnstiles hence you were limited to three instead of six. SYP determined to fck off away fans in Derby matches in the hope it kicks off and they can call for an away fan ban in future.

Dear Constituency MP where the fck were you last September when we were complaining about being hearded into trams by SYP. Pregnant women fainting, SYP invoking disorder powers to deliberately delay Blades fans forcing them to miss kick off. Best of all hundreds of fans having to use one antiquated turnstile from the 1800's resulting in the potential for another disaster at the Sty. Take your fckin blue and white spectacles off and do your job properly and represent all your constituents.

When we were held up at the Sty by SYP last September, the gates were already locked despite the police having told the stewards to keep the gates open. One smirking fat Pig in a viz vest soon got his act together when a pissed off sergeant told him "get those fucking turnstiles open now" .

Some twat had to come down from the office. Deliberate? Without a doubt.

Oh, and try getting OUT of that death trap West Stand when it's full. Then you'll know what a crush is like.

That was locked when we were eventually arrived.

The kind of small minded point scoring you get from most football fans.

What on earth has that got to do with Friday night?

I think the point is that Betts was significantly absent in commenting about the issues we had last September which were a significant issue for many of our supporters and a potential safety issue and yet was all over the alleged issues on Friday. Whether there was an issue or not I can’t say because I got my arse in there in plenty of time but the least I would expect is for Betts to contact the club and SYP before shooting his mouth off which it is clear he didn’t do.
You have to ask why these two events elicited a very different response from our honourable friend the leech for Sheffield South

Indeed. We're very lucky to have you .

Yellarbellyblade clears that point up quite superbly.

Doesn't Betts have constituents who are Blades fans who he could have considered last September, when he did his Knight in in Shining Armour act over the weekend?

Or don't they count?

I'm shocked that that reasoning didn't occur to you when referring to people as small minded. It's hardly left field thinking. I wonder why that was? Seeing as you're a football fan.

Maybe that insult can be levelled at you as well as Betts the MP?

The only reason this has been flagged as an issue in the first place is because it's a point scoring exercise. Blades fans complained about the farcical situation at Castle Greyskull last year, this was evidenced by videos and a multitude of complaints at the time. Lo and behold when the pigs find the opportunity to complain about something similar, they do the same.

I think any human being is far more likely to comment about an event they witnessed first hand than one they didn’t.

In fact, if they were the main discerning voice about something they didn’t witness and had little knowledge about, all credibility would be lost.

But you all know that really.

Wednesday fans wrote to the FA in 1990 complaining about gestures made by Simon Tracey and Carl Bradshaw.
Since then it seems like almost every time they visit there an orchestrated campaign starting a few days after.
It seems odd that in the age of the Iphone there seems to be little evidence of this horrific crush.

if you're referring to Betts with that comment then you're wrong. He has responded as an MP. He is supposed to represent all his constituency. He didn't even get his facts right. Mind you nothing new there. He has opted to point score against his Clubs biggest rivals yet remains indifferent to the fact his own Club caused major problems at the last Steel City Derby regarding entry. Bearing in mind his Clubs past history with crowd access into the ground he should have been vocal about this also.

There were press reports, outrage on social media, local newspaper and radio commenting on the events of 24 September 2017 yet Betts silence on the matter was deafening. That says it all about the reasons why he chose to comment about the Blades.

I was in the Bramall Lane upper tier & came from St Mary’s church side so had to pass the away end between 7:15 - 7:25

There were maybe 200 or so fans getting in at that time, no crushing, no screaming no nothing. Bit of trouble near the petrol station but nothing at the turnstiles.

Actually walked through the Wednesday fans to get to my turnstile so I can 100% guarantee during this time there was nothing happening other than chanting & would be happy to give my official statement anywhere it’s needed.

Still waiting to see any mobile phone footage of said crush.......... move along there’s nothing to see here........;)

You'd think that if there was anything to see a bunch of people would have been recording it with potatoes and shouting 'worldstar'

As it is, no video evidence from fans and those who were there seem to be similar in number to blades at THAT Port Vale game.

Your right of course, it should have been more along with a lengthy spell in prison.

Seriously, I watch a lot of these 'cop' programmes like 'The Force Essex' last night. At the end of these progs. they highlight the 'punishments' these crims. get. It's usually 'Not sufficient evidence', 'No further action' or - at worst - '2 days community litter-picking' (for killing a copper :D) . There's no consistency in these punishments.

Every time we play them at ours there are made up storys all over the internet from fantasist piglets involving crushes, kidney punches ,old people / disableds being assaulted. Must make them feel like they have braved some kind of War zone or something meanwhile our fans are held on boiling hot trams for half an hour after kick off

Deluded doesn’t even come close to these set of daft bastards.

A £10k fine eh? That's the equivalent to a University loan, thereabouts. It's a choice for young people how they'd like to spend their £10k I suppose? Educating themselves so that they may have a chance of getting a better career and a better lifestyle, or, wading into the away end of a football game and lashing out at total strangers who have done them no harm whatsoever, just because they support a different team?

I'm not sure the size of the fine is going to have much impact in terms of future behaviour of such folk tbh. In that sense, I think the fine is an irrelevance, whether it's £10 or £10,000. What's needed is to understand what makes folks do such senseless acts. Was it alcohol on the day or does it go back much further than that to how the lad has been brought up - the morals, values and standards he has been taught?

Put it this way - I wouldn't have dared bring any trouble home like that. That's one thing. Secondly, I wouldn't have any desire whatsoever to go and punch some folks for nothing. (Self-defence being a totally different matter).

But then again, I was brought up to respect people and property.

None of the cunts I ever meet, have attended a game since about 1990 and yet are still experts on everything football related.
