Wendy fan MP concerned about crushing at Bramall Lane.

Oh the irony...and hang on a minute, how many turnstiles did they have open for us at the Sty last season?

One thing’s for certain, it wasn’t down to a technical fault due to a turnstile management system error over at their festering shite hole. More like old Bill and Fred the operators had gone for a brew.

Clive Betts is a utter cunt of the highest order.

Let’s begin by examining his political career.

He was in charge of Sheffield City Council in 1989, the same authority which had a legal obligation to ensure that Hillsborough had a valid safety certificate.

He was also caught employing his young Brazilian lover as a researcher in 2003, and also was caught red handed as being implicit in a fraudulent application for residency for the aforementioned Brazilian. (I nearly used the term rent boy for Betts lover but he had given up his previous employment as a male escort shortly before the shitstorm happened so I’ve neglected to use that term as it would be factually incorrect, and you never know which eyes are prying)

Thankfully although I still support the Blades I dontlive in Sheffield and cannot understand how those clowns of Labour get voted in year after year on the council. As I drive into Sheffield on match days and see the pathetic traffic flows and road restrictions I wonder if it was 5 year olds who designed and run the City. Contrast that to say Salford another Labour controlled council who after Salford being a basket case in the 60's now is a great regeneration successful project with excellent traffic flows.
Betts is indicative of incompetence being blindly voted in year in year out without looking at actual results

I walked down the Moor and via Saint Mary's gate to the Kop entrances on the corner of John Street/Shoreham Street before the match.Despite setting of at 18:45 (I normally set of at 19:20 for a night game) when we came out of the underpass it was taking an interminable time to reach the Junction of BL/John Street. I'd estimate that there was between 600-800 Sheffield Wednesday fans all heading up Bramall Lane Street, and around 100-200 Blades. The Blades were being forced into the boundaries of the shop, and were struggling as we had bottles, traffic cones and smoke bombs being thrown in our direction. Some of the chanting from the Wednesdayites was grotesque: songs about Wilder's daughter and Billy Sharp's son; it was like pouring petrol on an open fire. Eventually (after maybe 25 minutes) we reached the metal barrier at the end of John Street and talked to a female copper who agreed that all the barrier had served to do was slow down Blades fas and leave us as sitting ducks. I should add, despite the Blades being in the distinct minority we were being charged at by both police and Wednesday fans. I've been walking that way to games since the 90s and this is the first time I've had to serious considered changing my route for future big games. I blame the police primarily, and the Wednesday fans who all seemingly arrive at the same time and acted like gutter scum (no it wasn't a minority)..

If SYP had any brain cells they would be a small collection of amoeba ...........No I take that back amoeba have more brian cells than the SYP

I’ve never known a more incompetent set of fuckwits than Sheffield Council. Good at spending million upon million of taxpayers money on shit eyesores and politically correct bullshit. A new congestion charge for buses to relieve congestion (which will mean more cars and higher bus fares). People can vote for whoever they want but sometimes I think some of the sheeple of Sheffield would vote for a rhesus monkey if it was wearing a red jumper.

Yes, Football Heaven has allowed itself to be hijacked by the whining Wednesday bastards aided and abetted by failed politician Betts. 'They weren't allowing enough fans in quickly enough' says one idiot. So what should we have done? Let everybody straight in a la Hillsborough 1989? If the visitors end should start to fall apart through lack of investment, what do they suggest? Cover it in tarpaulin?

Betts is a fucking disgrace and should look closer to home before spouting his inane, self-serving opinions. From Wikipedia:

In 2003 Betts was suspended from the House of Commons for 7 days for irregularities involving the employment and visa of Jose Gasparo, a Brazilian student with previous experience as a male escort. The Telegraph newspaper reported on 10 July 2010 that Betts' partner and parliamentary assistant, James Thomas, had tried to edit this fact from Betts' English Wikipedia page in an attempt to cover it up.

Betts was found guilty of breaching the MPs' code of conduct, with the Standards and Privileges Committee stating that he had acted "extremely foolishly" and had risked damaging public confidence in the integrity of Parliament. Particular concerns involved Betts' failure to disclose Gasparo's background to Parliamentary authorities and the fact that Betts had knowingly photocopied an altered document on Gasparo's behalf. Betts apologised unreservedly for his behaviour, which had been described as "well below the standard expected of a Member in terms of ... never undertaking any action which would bring the House of Commons or its members generally into disrepute".

We hear on FH of 'women and children crying...' outside Bramall Lane last Friday, but nothing about the pigs' vile chants about Billy Sharps son. It's like listening to BBCs biased reports about Gaza Strip.

Look, United will take no lectures on crowd safety FROM WEDNESDAY, THEIR FANS, SYPD OR A FAILED, CORRUPT POLITICIAN.
If I had done anything like the act that Betts did I would have been sacked on the spot for gross misconduct and banned from my industry for ever. Its OK for MP's to commit fraud and keep their job though unless they commit murder

Spot on Stretch -I was spat on and kicked by those blue and white "heroes" at Leppings Lane last season when I was on my own waiting for my mate to arrive with my ticket, who luckily didnt get the tram but was still held up by those
"masterminds" of policing SYP !

Lovely bunch aren't they? So tough with it as well.

Twats!

If a MP said yes, I'm a cheating thriving cunt he too would be sacked. However when a "genuine honest mistake" has been made they are forgiven.

Their Westminster cheerleader has got them all grunting tonight hasn't he. Some quite staggering posts on the thread below. Maybe are they are being deliberately ironic when they try to nail us over H&S .

https://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/topic/278075-clive-betts/

The sheer hypocrisy and bullshit from the most of that lot is beyond comprehension. I know we are discouraged from using the word on here but honestly, I detest the shower of cunts, I truly do.

Such was the trauma suffered that it has taken three days for that shower of cunts to be able to speak about it. Give it another couple of weeks and they will be demanding a public inquiry.

My first reaction was what a stupid idea and what a rubbish atmosphere that would be.

But on reflection I agree with you. Contrary to it creating a poor atmosphere I actually think it would be fantastic and intimidating for the home team. Not only that but what did the Pig fans bring to the party anyway?

The sight of that disgusting attention seeking tub of lard Tango making everybody want to throw up?

Certainly they didn’t add to the atmosphere,.

Of course it would be reciprocated at the Swill but that’s probably not a bad thing considering the unsafe state of their rusty outdated embarrassment of a stadium.

..and currently I’d back our team to stand up and be counted, in fact I can’t remember a time I would doubt them in those circumstances.

They on the other hand...
How is that cunt even allowed to do that at gamed, it's a sight no one wants to see not to mention a player gets booked for taking his shirt off

Betts is a bent bastard and an utter cunt to boot. If he truly wants safety at football grounds maybe he should start a campaign to get murder central shut down before he starts bleating about a bit of pushing and shoving mostly caused by their own scum turning up late in their hundreds.

SYP need no excuse to take unjustifiably extreme measures but that cunt's just given them one.

Exactly, and that's his whole point.
Doesn't care a damn about public safety, just trying to point score against United.

If future derbies are played in front of 25,000 with 8,000 empty seats he will be happy enough. It goes through him that games at Bramall lane can house as many as the death trap, dispelling the myth of how much bigger they are

The death trap is obviously ok, with it's bottleneck that STILL REMAINS TO THIS DAY outside Lemmings Lane

How is that cunt even allowed to do that at gamed, it's a sight no one wants to see not to mention a player gets booked for taking his shirt off
Unless he is Cardiff's goalscorer on Saturday.
The winning goal.
No booking after shirt thrown off.
Sol Bamba.

When SYP escort/march around 1000 fans to a stadium there is going to be a bit of congestion at the turnstiles even if 10 are in use, it don't matter if it is the Lane, Oakwell, the New York, Keepmoat or the death trap sty. But as it was at the lane and one of those away fans was that vile little cunt Clive Betts (yes the same MP who was banned from the Commons after irregularities and altered documents for his lover boy) a shining light of honesty and integrity he gets to spread his bullshit in the Sheffield Star (yes that pro pig rag that is loosely called a newspaper) Then every other pig there and the 100,000 who couldn't get to the game jump on the bandwagon.
You could just imagine this to be a Labour party plot to deflect from their ridiculous plans to bring in a congestion charge to put the last nail in the city's coffin. Yet year on year the people of the city vote these clowns onto the city council and in parliament, it's like turkeys voting for Christmas. No fucking wonder Sheffield is falling behind every other large city in the country with cunts like Clive Betts running the show.

As much as I enjoy the boot being put into Betts, I can't help but think United STILL have a massive problem with SAG, SYP, the Council and the debacle that is Bramall Lane and BL Upper and BL Lower.

The complete level of incompetence and lack of organisation or workable plan that continues round this City when other clubs in other cities seem to get it much better and generally correct should be a big disappointment to all involved.

The latest NEW plan of six rows of empty seats on BL upper just brings another level of pathetic organisation to the continuing debacle. What on earth did the so called "experts" expect our fans to do? Perhaps they have taken the song "piss on the bastards below" a little too seriously.

The Premier league require 3,000 away seats to be made available and we were allowed a slight dispensation last time we were there as it was a tad under that. It would be nice to know if United/SAG/SYP etc have a plan in place should we actually get their next season.

The Bramall Lane debacle just goes on and on.

UTB

I'd say there is a bigger problem on the corner of Shoreham St and Cherry St after games. Why the fuck don't they stop the traffic for 15 minutes when the crowd turns out. It can be utter chaos. Fans jamming up on the corner going in different directions, and bloody cars trying to get through them all.

Never thought about that issue until a few Saturdays ago, can't remember the game, a small convoy of about 4 motorbikes tried bullying their way through the crowd. They thought it a good idea to "bump" a few people out of the way until someone turned round and chinned one of them. Problem solved without police intervention but yeah, it is chaotic on that corner immediately after a game and I'm surprised one of the several hundred of SYP's finest on red alert haven't picked up on it.

Betts and the former "male escort" Blunkett and his bit off fluffs travel pass, the alky council leader who slept off his dinnertime session losing money at pool in the Manchester and Fatterslys mother knobbing the priest who married her to another only man weeks before eventually dropping that tub of lard ( but tenuous that one but hey ho).

And let's be honest, Blade Caborn won't have impressed anyone with his intellect either.

Yes, but don't forget they made us into " THE CITY OF SANCTUARY" which has worked brilliantly.:p

... well 1988 - how many turnstiles were open is more likely the clubs doing than the Police isn't it?

although, if the other turnstiles weren't used because they were in what the Police had designated a united fan area, I take your point.

I think that SYP and the club DO need to have a serious rethink about big games at the Lane. Complicated ways to leave the ground do seem to lead to problems - for instance, what would happen if there were an need to evacuate the top of the Bramall Lane stand in an emergency ? would the Police allow United fans out at the John Street exits? or would they probably get muddled up and not let them out for fear of them mixing with Wednesdayites?

I think the way they Police these matches relies too much on Police action and not enough on just making the stadium inherently safe - to be used by people not shepherded about by the Police. The Hillsborough disaster came about because of an over-reliance on Police to make an inherently unsafe stadium work safely. The Police got it wrong and so the stadium failed.

Its not good enough that the stadium can only be used to 3000 fewer than its capacity for these matches - big vacant areas at the Bramall Lane end and a studio blocking views from the LHS of the Kop. I personally would have more away supporters in the Bramall Lane end so those gaps could be filled .... forget safe standing, thats how you improve the atmosphere at a match.

Or maybe SYPD are doing everything they can to ensure a future disaster? That way they can justify their pathetic existence/overtime at United matches. Their 'hate wall'? Their allowing known hooligans such as Leeds straight out onto Bramall Lane at full time? Relying on their mates from Durham Cuntstabulary at low risk games?

Don't worry, when it happens we'll have the usual crap about 'lessons have been learned' when the opposite is the case. Take a look at away fans' vlogs such as Villa. Mr. McCabe has ensured that Bramall Lane is a brilliantly maintained stadium but utter cunts like Betts deflect attention from the death trap that is Hillsborough.

Good reply already from the club in today’s Star.

Irresponsible to be gobbing off to the press without approaching the club first.

Seems a very sensitive and emotive subject to be point scoring on. Crowded perhaps. Busy maybe. A crush? I think you have to be very careful heading towards that territory.

All politicians ARE murderers.
There's not one of them that would lose a second of sleep about dropping bombs on people if it suited their agenda

What an absolute load of bollocks of a post this is, I'm sure Joe Cox and the many MPs that marched against the war in Iraq including the much criticised pacifist Jeremy Corbyn would be proud to represent someone like you in parliament. FFS I can't believe I've ever had the misfortune to share a forum with such a moron.

they probably would be proud but frankly that is moot .. they are utterly incompetent fools who always put party before country it boils my piss
they wouldn’t last ten minutes in a ‘proper job’

Whilst over on porktalk we're ignoring the issue and trying to brush away under the carpet.

Read allsorts, bangers thrown at them, crushes in the turnstiles..... all whilst surrounded by police with surveillance equipment and everyone with mobile phones and guess what....

Not one fucking shred of evidence!

Calm down Jeremy
You're never likely to be in a position to be a murderer, but if you ever get in power you will be...….America will tell you to be

To be fair, I was there and this was a real issue.

First of all let me qualify what I mean. In no way was there any risk of a Hillsborough style tragedy. However, there was a significant risk of a child, elderly person or less mobile person getting a serious injury.

More over for me personally, the issue was the time it took to get in the ground.

I arrived at the ground at 7.20pm and got into the ground just before 8pm. There was only 2,000 of us, it shouldn't have been that difficult. 40 minutes to get in is unacceptable. When I got into the ground there was still a few hundred fans outside.

I can honestly say that in all my time watching football, I have never been to a ground where access was so slow. Therefore, this does need looking at.

However, to me it wasn't clear whether the fault lay with the ground or the police (or both). There were 2 turnstiles to the right that I believe were operational. However the police didn't appear to have enough personnel to ringfence this as well as the others. Therefore, they wouldn't let Wednesday fans use them until 7.45pm when most United fans had entered the ground.

Whoever was at fault, it needs resolving because to be quite frank, it was a farce.

I arrived at the ground at 7.20pm

And that's what every Wednesday fan complaining has said.
The turnstiles were open at 6.30 but it seems a large number of Wednesday fans turned up in a police escort 10 minutes before the Rememberance Commemorations started. I suppose if they didn't they wouldn't have been able to sing their fantasy schoolgirl songs.

According to United’s statement there were six turnstiles open. To me it sounds more like a Policeing issue rather than issues with the ground or United.

It has to be said that such a large amount of fans turning up 10 minutes before kick-off won’t have helped.

I do get the impression that Clive Betts will have jumped at the opportunity to paint United in a bad light.

I also think some of the comments I’ve seen on social media and Owlstalk are Wednesday fans exaggerating or literally making stories up. Don’t try to tell me that doesn’t / won’t have happened because we all know it would.

If there was a problem I doubt it was as bad as being made out but as I said earlier, sounds very much a Policeing issue, they just don’t seem to know how to control big matches, local derby’s or otherwise.

Other Police forces seem to manage it, but South Yorkshire Police repeatedly fail.
