TBH I'm getting a little tired of the number of reasons to pay tribute, remember, commemorate etc. Football for me is escapism and entertainment. Whilst I do appreciate we need to remember the events they should be kept to local rememberance unless it's a national event eg rememberance Sunday. Bradford fans must get a bit rattled when we are all remembering liverpool fans but no one bothers to commemorate the tragedy and loss of life that was shown so graphically on live TV in the Bradford fire.
Respect to those past but let's keep it to the local teams affected.

Please tell me I'm not reading that right. 96 died and you can argue over rhyme, reason or venue but they were football fans. Bearing in mind football is supposed to be a community of its own is a minute of your time too much to ask?

Your reading it right. I don't want to commemorate every death associated to football, I go to watch, relax, socialise, escape from reality and all the bad things going off in everyday life, it's my thing!
I feel for everyone of those fans and their families as well as those at Ibrox, Bradford, Heysel, etc not to mention players, directors, grounds staff, etc but I don't want to be reminded every time I go to a game. It's time to let them RIP, raising the topic to many times and it undermines their memory.

You are probably right that the "commemorate" thing is taken too far.

The problem with your post is that this particular issue of kicking off at 4:07 is for 96 Liverpool fans and more importantly, their families, who have not been given the closure properly.

I accept totally that I am personally guilty of "listening" to what I believed was correct information from SCC/SWFC/Police and the ex Tory MP Irvine Patnick as to what happened in and around H'boro on that day. I remember coming out of the old Northampton ground that day after watching United and thing OMG, how could this happen. I for one expect that the up and coming enquiry will eventually get to the truth and once and then once and for all they can Rest in Peace.

Not only do the Liverpool fans want justice for their 96 loved ones, we as Sheffield people want the TRUTH as to how our officials behaved on that day and leading up to it - it is still a nasty stain on our great city and if we can help by having YET ANOTHER minutes silence for the 96, then it is the very least we can do.

Sorry, but on this occasion I think you are wrong. This is footballs way of saying we care and as it happened in our City then we should be at the forefront of this.

FB I cannot agree with you more they deserve justice and I for one as a fan and a Sheffielder want the truth. Time and red tape should not allow anyone who covered up the truth and/or lied escape the full weight of the law.

All I am saying is that after the revelations and deceptions the courts are the place to secure justice not on the terraces. And like all decent fans I hope their families get it.

I appreciate your view that it's the fans way of showing their support. But I would prefer to enjoy my day revelling in my teams success (a rare event) and remember those and others lost from the wider football community in my way.

If there is a similar movement next year for Bradford City v Lincoln City, then I am all for this. However, there won't be, because they are unfashionable clubs that never win anything.

Only one mention that it was Liverpool fans who tragically died that day. Going to watch your team anywhere should be safe.

I'm sure our supporters will show the due respect to the families and honour the memory of thei loved ones.

This minute respect has nothing to do with the who, why, how etc.
