Including Blades who travel to support England. Those England fans are weird in the sense they'll pitch up in far flung corners of the globe Manaus, Baku, Almaty. I've even watched England U21 in a country that's not recognised by the UN. There's a weird obsession for traveling and getting to games I'll admit. Your circular argument is getting a bit annyoying, especially when you reply twice to the same post.

The argument is not whether Southgate was part of an England side which reached a final and a semi final, the argument is whether he is a better manager than any of the previous incumbents.

Compare the actual career records of Keegan (or Taylor, or even Hodgson) with Southgate and then try and convince me otherwise.

As I pointed out, Roberto di Mateo was the manager or a team that won the Champions League. Do I need to batter that point home with a mallet?

There isn't really an argument here though is there. We've been to three world cup semi finals ever and Southgate got us to one. We've been to one Euros final ever and it was Southgate who got us there. Last 2 tournaments are an unexpected semi final then a final. Do we really want to get rid of that manager ahead of the next tournament? Who could do better? If you get Potter or Howe and we don't win it do we brand them failures and bin them off? That "misunderstanding" leads me to make a point. When people talk about England Fans, you'll probably never know exactly which version of England Fans they're talking about. And, when someone responds (like I did), you'll probably never know which version of England Fans they're responding about. It's because it is the National Team. So, lots of people become Fans when there's an opportunity. And it's a much broader range than Club Fans. That's echoing your point. Which is a bit like - everyone has an opinion.

In general though, they're not usually as fickle as other countries. Just the idiots who let club allegiance take over.

As for those English fans who love to say they don't follow England but have strong opinions on them, they are weird.

Maybe because this is a Sheffield United forum, for Sheffield United fans. Although I would die for my country, I only really get excited about watching England in an actual tournament,.. From comments further up the page (and definitely not directed at gordoncharles), perhaps some who no longer feel represented by the national team are troubled by the 'politics' around it; that there are many black players, that they take the knee, that the manager is diplomatic and speaks out against discrimination, that it was good to see them beaten, particularly by Hungary (which I struggle to find any other way to interpret than an allusion to the country's own difficulty in accepting society is overtly racist and without any consciousness that there might be something wrong with that).

I know plenty of England fans who can't understand why we continue to 'take the knee' before games. Not one of them are bothered about England players' skin colour. It's not racist to oppose virtue-signaling, gesture politics.

As for the result, I'm glad that our limitations were exposed in a meaningless game rather than the World Cup group stages. Hopefully they can be addresssed before November.

Game in Sofia… everyone knows what happened there. Yet the night before the game, I was walking from one craft beer bar to another, I’m a craft beer wanker… I’m hearing lots of ‘singing’, I get nearer, I work out it’s anti Irish songs, I turn the corner and see the pub these ‘fans’ are outside singing anti Irish songs…it’s an Irish bar, some of them even drinking Guinness , I stand on the other side of the road and watch for a couple of minutes as they carry on singing these ‘songs’, to be briefly interrupted by any woman walking past them they can shout something at..

What is the difference between craft beer and beer?

I don't suppose there's a proper definition. Me, personally, I think of Craft Beer as being lovingly & thoughtfully created. Usually by a smaller, independent brewer. Different recipes will be tried, experiments will be experimented. The best ingredients will be used, whole hop cones for eg. Like gourmet beer. Like boutique beer. As opposed to industrial beer. Where the brand is everything. And every corner is cut in its manufacture.

Industrial beer is like fast food. The same stuff churned out day after day. Stack it high. Sell it cheap. Profits for the shareholders are the success factor.

It's easy for me, I'm only going to have two beers. So, I don't want them to be the same two I had yesterday. I don't want to eat Burger King every day. It's like cooking. Take some ingredients. You can boil 'em. Fry 'em. Bake 'em. Add a lot of one. And not much of the other. And competent cooks & chefs will be able to able to tease fantastic tastes from those ingredients.

So, with beer. Water (many, many, many different chemical compositions). Malt (barley, oats, rice, smoked, toasted). Hops (an increasing number of varieties). And the Magic Beans of Yeast. Put those four ingredients together differently, in different quantities, at different times, at different temperatures. It's impossible to count the number of different flavour combinations you can conjure.

Craft breweries are able to explore all that. Industrial brewers can't because of ... profits.

Not for shareholders they don't. I'm not against profit. I'm not against anything. I'm for people being able to drink whatever they like, wherever they like, whenever they like. I'm for people being able to pile into big industrial brands (for eg Carling). If that's what floats their boat. I'm for people being able to seek out beers from much smaller old mills & warehouses. Because that's what boats my float. As beer drinkers, we're living through a loooooong Golden Age.

But is that because they don't understand why players choose to continue to take the knee? I completely agree that it's not racist to oppose virtue-signalling and gesture politics. It would be much clearer if those who didn't believe in equality and didn't give a toss about the prejudice faced by others, or simply believed it wasn't their problem, would remain standing.

It's impossible to know though, who is virtue-signalling without having intimate knowledge of their thoughts, so why does it trouble anybody that players take the knee? Costs nothing, shows commitment, raises awareness, even if people dismiss it as gesture politics.

Anyway. I'm sure people much prefer to discuss craft beer.

Surprises me. Maybe we just know a different group of plenty of England Fans. Plenty I know from my travels supporting the team are very understanding and supportive of players continuing to take a knee.

I'm extremely bothered about England players skin colour. I want any England player who feels they have been discrimated against because of their skin colour to feel any solidarity I can offer.
