I’m lucky enough through work to go abroad watching matches so I’ll share a couple of examples of my experiences of England fans.
In Vilnius I was in a quiet back street craft beer boozer away from the sirens etc, in walked three England fans and sat next to me at the bar (ffs I thought), got talking to them, couldn’t have met three nicer blokes to be fair, England members, they say it forces them to see different places they would never experience otherwise, the match is an afterthought and they come to places like this bar and stay away from the main squares when going to these countries. Fair enough. One of them could have been you Phil, but I couldn’t see a carrier bag……But yet this is the same match where some utd fans were Set upon by some boro fans while sat having a drink.
Game in Sofia… everyone knows what happened there. Yet the night before the game, I was walking from one craft beer bar to another, I’m a craft beer wanker… I’m hearing lots of ‘singing’, I get nearer, I work out it’s anti Irish songs, I turn the corner and see the pub these ‘fans’ are outside singing anti Irish songs…it’s an Irish bar, some of them even drinking Guinness

, I stand on the other side of the road and watch for a couple of minutes as they carry on singing these ‘songs’, to be briefly interrupted by any woman walking past them they can shout something at..
