From 1 to 11, only 1 player can actually say he had a good game. I really feel sorry for Billy Sharp. The only one in a blades shirt with a bit of quality about him tonight. Adams showed in flashes why he's 'highly rated'... but only in flashes.

Everyone else... just not good enough.

Not entirely sure what Long was doing for their 1st goal. Couple of decent saves otherwise... nothing he could have done about their second & perhaps should have done better with the 3rd.

That back 3 will concede goals for fun in the conference. Appalling.

The goalkeeper has to be deemed to be in control of the ball. He had one hand on the ball and barely that for no time at all. It was a fair goal. I am amazed we even appealed. Poor keeping added to the 4 or 5 other mistakes in lead up (Coutts, Hammond, Whiteman, Long, A N other not reacting to error)

It's the same problem they had last season, made worse this time round as Adkins has shipped out some of the better players. Spine of the team is piss-poor where the leaders and winners should be, the ones that hold it altogether when the team's under the cosh or driving them forward when a winner or equaliser is needed, are totally missing or not effective enough. Adkins brought in a spine of Edgar, Hammond and Sammons, all on loan, all on a shed load of money, all from a higher division, all not good enough for what they were brought in for. He could have cherry picked the best in this division at the start of the season for a fraction of the cost and they'd have done better for the club.

I aint got confidence in Adkins to sort this mess, some of which is down to him, get shut now and get someone in who can address the glaring problems in the team before we waste another season in this division.

Some truth in that we were hard done by . However we create our own downfall . Most teams we are on par with but unprofessional when it comes to being tactically astute. We do seem to get out manoeuvred in every game by opposition managers ( last night and Crewe game most recent examples ).

Adkins requires to resolve this , we have enough experience in the side , that should be astute enough to pick this up without being told . This is why we lose so many personal battles . The players are not all inferior, but do not have footballing brains to cope and adapt . That's why no contracts should be renewed or extended and all loan players shipped back to there parent clubs.

Starting with a blank canvass is great , if you have the money to buy the correct paint.

Adkins back room staff worry me more than front man Adkins.

Long should have done better with the first and I'm still not convinced at all with him but you have to credit the way he's come back since the first game. Without him we would have lost by about 5 at Millwall, let about 6 in yesterday and conceded God knows how many throughout the season. I don't think he is good enough for a promotion winning side but he's arguably been our second best player this season

I doubt that people are looking for anything to blame Long with. Without some of his saves this season we'd be a lot worse off and most people acknowledge that.

He pulled off some decent saves last night and as you say the 2nd and 3rd were not his fault.
The first was.
If you say that the first was tough on him....who else dropped it? Who else put us in that position where the ball was stabbed home?

I say some people just don't want to criticise him (warranted criticism when it's made) because he is "one of us" and "he's from the academy". If it was Mark Howard that did that (or Simmonsen....who all too frequently failed to catch a ball in the air) people would have slaughtered him without giving recognition for any other saves in a match.

As Roygbiv aludes to credit to him for bouncing back from that opening game of the season to establish himself as out regular keeper.

It's frightening the amount of times that Long is called upon to make critical interventions - shows a complete lack of defensive strength in front of him.
We don't close down the player that is shooting, we allow crosses to come into the box, unchallenged, we allow the opposition to play through us with ease, we ball watch instead of marking the player coming into the box.
It's worse contrasting the amount of times that Long makes a crucial block in a game with the number of actual saves (not chances or blocks or opportunities to get a strike on goal) that the opposition keeper has to make in a game against us.
Adkins never seems to look at that as a stat worthy of comment - and goal mouth action that leads to a chance that the keeper has to deal with is the only stat that matters in a game of football
