The ref didn't give it, the linesman did so i cannot fathom how he can come to that conclusion stood over there

Maybe he over-estimates Billy Sharp's ability to get on the end of stuff and by strange magic thought he'd deflected it in.

My understanding is that the ‘assistant referee’ (should?) identify any ( of 5 !) players in an offside position - it’s then up to the referee to determine / decide any / all other aspects (ie line of sight / interfering with play)

the ref should have gone over too check what hes seen, if he thinks its touched billy the ref can clearly see it hasnt, if the linesman thinks billy in line of sight then he needs to be sacked, no way can he make that judgement, cant remember last time i saw a ref go over and talk to the linesman instead of instantly taking their decision

my point is that had our lads ran out at the same pace the defenders pushed up the there would have been no Lino flag, and therefore all this would have been joyous celebration of a great goal and win

as they say on tele, “they gave the ref a decision to make”

But that’s my point
The Lino has done his job - (correctly) communicated that 4 or 5 were in offside positions when the deflection (off Robinson) happens - he hasn’t / doesn’t contribute to who it hit - that is the referees job
Isn’t the ‘reason’ for it being ruled out because someone (out of 4 or 5) was ‘interfering’ / line of sight etc ?

That wrestle wasn't a brief tug of the shirt either he was pulling him to the point our player fell over (I think it's N'Diaye there)
