'We should boo McEveley every time he touches the ball'

There was a definite air around us of that tonight. While the team played badly I'd like to think people recognised what he did well tonight, including a hand in both our goals.

There was one brilliant passage of play that seemed to sum the man up, in the first half. He was too far away from his man, but recovered well to win the ball. Then as he tried to get clear, his awful touch nearly played it out for a throw-in. Slightly panicked, he just booted the ball upfield, where it landed perfectly on Sammon's chests. Four ups and downs in as many seconds.

Maceverly was not the worst player tonight, but mainly because a few players were truly terrible. Sammon, Baxter, Woolford in the first half.

i thought mcceverly did ok tonight especially with the pressure that the crowd put him under from the first whistle- my mate even said people around here were booing him when his name was announced at the start which if true is a disgrace. Edgar, Woolford, Baxter, Basham, Sammon and Sharp all played much worse than him tonight

There did seem an inclination to boo him from the start and I think his first couple of touches would never had been good enough for many. It soon wore off though, once it was obvious that there was worse, much worse, on the pitch.

I actually have no huge issues with McEveley being back up LB while we wait for Harris/Brayford (so we can put Freeman on the left). But there is no way in hell he should be captain. He has the leadership of a potato. It's almost as crazy as putting someone like Tony McMahon as captain. Edgar or Brayford as captain for me. Well, until we get Hammond on a permanent at least.

Another piece of fuck wittery came from whichever moron hit the Colchester keeper with a coin after the second penalty save...

Some people should not be let out of the house without supervisors following them with a big net.

Wasn't aware of this - disgraceful. No wonder he gave the "pumping fists" to the kop at the final whistle......

Just on my way to work where I live, and I haven't seen a match report. Did we miss two penalties? Or - good job I'm a lawyer - do I construe that to mean he saved the 'second penalty' - i.e. we scored the first penalty, and he saved the next one.

At least my meeting today is with Americans, Aussies, two Danes and a Chinese lady - be surprised if they've checked the overnight scores from League Division 3...

UTB, though maybe it's time to bring back WTTWY ?

We had a great run now its gone into reverse. All we have is depth, no actual strength and bunches of players put together by previous managers with little or no hope of gelling into a major force under the next sucker who takes the job and has the previous seasons best player sold from under him. we have trod water up and around the top end of this table for a few years now but Murphy's sale is just another in a long, long line of admissions of lack of ambition. The first player I remember losing and feeling sickened was Tony Currie... then we had links to South America (the 'Prince' of its day), fabkles of offering derisory amounts for Maradona, a brief flirtation with Sabella before he too was soon off and its been the same ever since... successive chairmen, owners etc etc know we will put uop with this shit and they can get a minimum of 10k through the doors. Murphy might not be Deane/Fjortoft, or Deane/Agana, or Currie, Sabella, Birchinall, Jones ad infinitum but he was the one shiny trinket we had up for grabs and we snatched the hands off from Brighton and Hove fucking Albion... because they know we will take it.

To clarify the penalty situation.....the first goal was a retaken penalty (goalie off his line), and we missed the 2nd.

Wasn't the worst player last night! Fucke how many times did he drift out of position in the first half leaving their wide guy in acres and acres of space. We will never achieve anything while the likes of him are in the side. As a team we are soft as shit. Did we even produce a tackle all match

The delaying tactics employed prior to the last missed penalty didn't help. Was the referee obliged to let the substitution take place before the penalty was taken?. Had Billy not played the big I am, we would have salvaged a point if Baxter had taken it. Perhaps you will get the message now Mr Adkins, Baxter is a superior penalty taker to Billy.

I guess people only see what they want to see.

If you want to see someone drifting inside for nothing, leaving people exposed check out Woolford.

Much as they deserved it, the booing during the first half, directed at all the players didn't help. I can understand peoples frustrations but once that happened, they all looked terrified of receiving the ball. Jay was going to be booed, the first mistake he made, that is the Blades way for some.

Wooooa there Ben. Knocking Jay makes you a scapegoater and therefore a bad person!
I don't hate the guy, he tries, but since when was that a good enough trait!? He's not alone but he's the captain and he should get more stick than others when he plays like a twat

i've come to the conclusion that McEveley is the captain because he is the left back and Adkins can talk to him kicking toward the Lane end. they had quite a few cosy chats yesterday in the middle of the game. he was nowhere near the worst player yesterday.. new scapegoat vacancy

Quote from the TOWIE wannabe sitting next to me today.

Truly hostile atmosphere tonight, for obvious reasons, but for fuck sake please tell me no one here has the same attitude as this lad.

Can't see any problem with having a dig about anything on here but singling out a player during a game (unless he's the opposition) is madness.

Agree - just can't fathom how anyone thinks that booing any player during a game will in any way enhance the performance of the player being targeted or the team as a whole.

As someone else has said, we were on a run of 4 consecutive wins and now 2 morale sapping defeats - what has happened to the same team that (apart from Baxter/Reed) beat Swindon 2-0 and restricted them to just a couple of efforts on goal?

Lack of consistency?
Lack of Mental Strength?
Tactics got found out?

He started the game awfully along with a few others. We gave the ball away I think 5 times in our own half in the first few minutes. He was the first to do it before Freeman, Sharp and Woolford followed suit. He then did it again a few minutes later and the fans were on his back.

BUT
he didn't hide and his performance improved as the game went on. He, along with Collins and Edgar still couldn't cope with Colchester's pace but at least he tried to get on the ball and make things happen and as others have said, had a degree of involvement in both goals. Still a player I don't want in the team but there were worse perpetrators than him last night.

What or who is TOWIE?
....................................................................................................................................................................................................It is where you go in Scotland ,when you want a Pee , Alex , see you Jimmy Murphy

Why should Sharp give up the penalty when he scored the previous one? Maybe he shouldn't have gone the same way!
