To some of those on the Kop mainly...there was a bit of an exodus at 5-2 and people were streaming out of the ground.

Why?

I sit in the South Stand and a fair few around us were getting up to go as well. But nowhere near the numbers leaving the Kop.

Why?

When Fulham got their 5th goal on 78 minutes, there was still 12 minutes of normal time remaining, plus a good 5 minutes or more of time to be added. So, the best part of 20 minutes still to play. The game may have seemed like it had slipped from our grasp at that point - but we were playing well - causing threats - and yet some of our so-called "supporters" throw the towel in with nearly 20 minutes to go?

If you were one of them that left after that 5th goal. Please tell us, what is your motivation for leaving early?

Is it...

Because you'd given up all hope
Because you thought you'd try and beat the traffic
Because you were always planning to leave early in any case
Because you suddenly got an urgent call on your phone to return home
Because you are Mr Meadows and had been called to South Stand Reception
Because you wanted to be the first at the bar down the pub

Or is it because you only want to "support" your team for 90 minutes if it looks like they are going to win?

I don't think I've ever left a game early - but I can understand, to a point, why someone might do that when the team is playing shite and losing - but even then, not with nearly 20 minutes remaining FFS!

Well done to all those loyal fans who stayed until the final whistle and gave the lads the standing ovation they fully deserved.

And a big bollocks and boo-hiss to all those part-time supporters who showed their displeasure by leaving early. Don't fuckin come and watch the Blades if you can't give your support for the full 90 minutes at least.

(And as for the bloke in the South Stand near me who stood up and shouted, "fuckin rubbish Wilder" when we went 5-2 down...unbelievable! :tumbleweed: He needs to see a shrink).

Excellent! Congratulations! Have a....

I stopped while the final whistle went, but if anybody wants to go out before the final whistle it's their choice & people should not have to justify to anybody.

We had two silly old fuckers falling out at the end in the family stand. Loads left near us at 5-2 too.

But I agree with your post, it’s a poor showing to leave like they did.
Saying that, helped us mind. We left at the end as usual, but managed to get out much easier than usual in the car. Suggests a lot of those leaving certainly didn’t leave cos they had a last train or bus to catch!!

Was this around Gangway A by any chance?
I was around this, and reasoning for it was due to a 'silly old fucker' constantly blaming the referee as according to him, he was a cardiff fan, just because he's welsh. Amazing how this fan apparently knew all this, and was so certain of it.
Also spent the entire second half stating how the entire fulham team is full of players who's names are unpronounceable and full of foreigners - because that had anything to do with the result and game?

That was it. Pair of muppets who should know better.

Whilst I can't get on board with the mentality that motivates someone to leave early (Only ever done it when I had a spell working night shifts and had to leave to get to work), I also can't get on board with a mentality of telling other people how to be blades and whether their "support" is sufficient for them to be allowed to continue supporting the club.

I'm not sure who you think you are to tell others "Don't fuckin come". Being a blade isn't an obligation. Supporting the team isn't an obligation. Staying to the end isn't an obligation. Some fans may want to get behind the team and show appreciate regardless. Great, I'm one of those fans. I stay to the end and I like to get behind the team to show that I appreciate their efforts. Others might just fancy watching the team, pay their money, decide they're not really enjoying it at 5-2 down, think about the traffic, getting up early for work etc. and think "fuck this, I'm going to get a head start so I can get an earlier night and not be as knackered for work in the morning". That is entirely their prerogative. Neither you, me or any other supporter has the right to dictate that they must stay away as a result of having that attitude.

You must sit near where I do I heard that moron shout ,its idiots like that who reallymake you wonder what goes on in their demented brains .

These type of fans can`t seem to accept that Fulham played some good football with pace & accuracy. Gobbing off at Wilder like some did was totally the wrong thing to do. Those who got behind the players from 2-5 down were rewarded with 2 goals silencing the Fulham fans desperate for the whistle. Had that game gone on for another 3 minutes could have resulted in either a 4-6 or a 5-5. Applauding the players at the end was justified and you could see what it meant to the players.

They really do want to do it for the fans and this is why getting behind the team is so important. Now lets get over this and look to the next game.

Ridiculous holier than thou post

That was it. Pair of muppets who should know better.

Having had a season ticket for around 20 years around there, i've never seen 1 of the guys ever lose it, however the second bloke in question is a new season ticket holder who has riled up numerous fans this season through chatting constant shit like i'd mentioned prior.
Not making any excuse for fans kicking off with each other, but when a fan is being xenophobic, racist and sexist within the 'family stand', it's only a matter of time until someone does something about it.

I don’t disagree. I think everyone has their own definition of “good support”, this thread evidences that. I do also think there’s a complete inability of our fanbase to deal with any self criticism, which is a bit laughable at times.

I think our fans are similar to everyone elses. A mixed bag of die hard supporters, more casual supporters, fickle tantrumers, pragmatics etc. It takes all sorts to make up a fan base and I don't think there's anything exceptionally different about ours compared to others.

The leave early fans attitude isn't my cup of tea. But it doesn't need to be. Because I don't have dictatorial jurisdiction over our supporters. So, basically, it's up to them.

I'm as perplexed as the next man at people who leave when we're on the cusp of a stunning comeback... but I guess last night you have to take into account the 7 mins extra time in the first half and the 6 in the second half, and I can see why more people than usual would have been struggling to make buses, trains etc. There are a large no. of people who come in on public transport that's not exactly great at 10pm on a midweek night.
There are always nobbers who leave no matter what.. but I suppose there's a slight leeway with the delays last night.

This is clearly a troll thread. But just for the record, I have left early literally once - The Forest home game during the last FA Cup run. I had to get to a shift I couldn't get out of. I left at 1-1 and my dad called me from my taxi as the penalty went in. I was gutted.

I always stay until the bitter end at every game, because that's my choice. Some people leave early because that's their choice. Frankly, I think it's daft to go early when we pay so much for football - Why not get your money's worth? But I'd never be a judgemental prick about it.

I was still applauding our performance 40 minutes after final whistle, then I was told to leave by the cleaning crew.
Am I the biggest Blade?

I think you’ve won an award for labelling a “mildly amusing though but tedious” point. I’ve got a few from the Suggest a shit Show thread myself ;)

My name is Gray and I am an early leaver.

But only when Heath and Adkins were our managers.

I'm guessing a lot of people stayed to the end so they could get their phones out and post on here to tell Wilder what he's done wrong and how to do his job.

Thats bollocks, I sat at home and did it. I felt justified given that I'd been playing Football Manager all night and was doing really well ;)

Those that did the fire drill when it went to 5/2 will be the same ones not going to Millwall when tickets are available, but moaning about loyalty points when they want to go to villa .never been proper blades in their lives .

The match finished an hour and a quarter before 11pm. You must work a long way away or have to spend hours in make-up before going on stage?
What does it matter to you? These people have their own reasons for leaving without your consent.

And yes, I stayed until the end as I always do if you’d like to know.

Which one is the issue? One in the hat and colours or the bloke in the jacket among a group of 5?
Problem is, you are never going to get anything resolved by confronting them and arguing to the point of threats and aggression. My advice is simple.
Simply say to the bell end being abusive etc....I’ve heard what you have said, don’t agree with it and find it offensive. I will be reporting the matter to the club to take further action. And walk away.
No arguments, no getting in faces and threats just walk away and report them.
That way it’s up to the club and cops if necessary to sort it out.

Nope I’m still sat on my seat in the South Stand fuckin starving mind.........I wonder if there’s any pies left:rolleyes:

I'm actually sleeping here till saturday. Roughing it on the Kop.
Just got a call from work, I've been sacked.
My missus has rung and said I've got to pick the kids up at half 3... they can walk.

That's how big a Blade I am.

For anyone confused, this isn't a whose the biggest Blade thread.

This is a thread with a genuine question as to why you would want to leave early. Do you only follow the Blades if they're doing well, or did you have other reasons for leaving?

I stayed till the end, not because I'm the biggest Blade (only been to 5 or 6 games so far) but because I want to support my team. After the last 15 months we've had, I want to show my appreciation for them, win, lose or draw.

Last night we didn't play poorly, we didn't play long balls (until the last 5 when it was necessary) and we certainly couldn't have been accused of a lack of effort. So regardless of the result, they deserved a decent send off, and thankfully got one from those who stayed.

If you expect the players to put 100% in and keep going until the final minute, then in my opinion it's not too big of an ask for you stay in your seat & watch them do just that...
