To some of those on the Kop mainly...there was a bit of an exodus at 5-2 and people were streaming out of the ground.

Why?

I sit in the South Stand and a fair few around us were getting up to go as well. But nowhere near the numbers leaving the Kop.

Why?

When Fulham got their 5th goal on 78 minutes, there was still 12 minutes of normal time remaining, plus a good 5 minutes or more of time to be added. So, the best part of 20 minutes still to play. The game may have seemed like it had slipped from our grasp at that point - but we were playing well - causing threats - and yet some of our so-called "supporters" throw the towel in with nearly 20 minutes to go?

If you were one of them that left after that 5th goal. Please tell us, what is your motivation for leaving early?

Is it...

Because you'd given up all hope
Because you thought you'd try and beat the traffic
Because you were always planning to leave early in any case
Because you suddenly got an urgent call on your phone to return home
Because you are Mr Meadows and had been called to South Stand Reception
Because you wanted to be the first at the bar down the pub

Or is it because you only want to "support" your team for 90 minutes if it looks like they are going to win?

I don't think I've ever left a game early - but I can understand, to a point, why someone might do that when the team is playing shite and losing - but even then, not with nearly 20 minutes remaining FFS!

Well done to all those loyal fans who stayed until the final whistle and gave the lads the standing ovation they fully deserved.

And a big bollocks and boo-hiss to all those part-time supporters who showed their displeasure by leaving early. Don't fuckin come and watch the Blades if you can't give your support for the full 90 minutes at least.

(And as for the bloke in the South Stand near me who stood up and shouted, "fuckin rubbish Wilder" when we went 5-2 down...unbelievable! :tumbleweed: He needs to see a shrink).

We had two silly old fuckers falling out at the end in the family stand. Loads left near us at 5-2 too.

But I agree with your post, it’s a poor showing to leave like they did.
Saying that, helped us mind. We left at the end as usual, but managed to get out much easier than usual in the car. Suggests a lot of those leaving certainly didn’t leave cos they had a last train or bus to catch!!

Not that it's any of your f***ing business but I had a lift and a young son to get back to and my lift arrived at. Would have gone at the same time if we were 5-2 up. Let me know if you want to chat further

I heard that guy shout at Wilder as well, I was a gangway to the left but he got a fair bit of abuse as he was walking out from what I could hear! There's just no need for it.

The excuses come pouring in...

Sure mate, I'll chat further. What do you want to chat about? The fact that you always leave nearly 20 minutes before the end of a game? Or is that actually not really the case?

Sitting bang on the middle of the Kop I am always on my way out when the 90 mins are up and watch extra time as I make my way to the exit otherwise it takes 15mins to get out from where I sit. Last night was ridiculous though loads were on their way when 12mins plus any extra time were still left to play. The kop is the worst stand to get out of quickly being the oldest part of the ground that is the reason people start moving towards the exits before the end of games, no problems getting out last night though.

I stayed applauding until the last man left the pitch - Leon - who got his usual chant just as he left, as I sit right over the tunnel.

I then caught the tram to my car and drove my usual 2 hours back, got here at 1245.

To be fair, the game ran really late with 7 minutes extra in the first half and 6 in the second and quite a lot of folk do have a 10 o’ clock train etc - but not that many!

I remember leaving early once - under Madkins when I was so angry that the players didn’t seem to be trying and nobody seemed to know what they were doing. I got as far as the screens under the South Stand, and then still couldn’t leave until the whistle!

Whatever the result, if every team played with the commitment and the passion that we did last night every stadium would be packed.

Magic Doesn’t Always Work, But It’s Still Magic

You must sit near where I do I heard that moron shout ,its idiots like that who reallymake you wonder what goes on in their demented brains .

I watched the whole game, then stared at my screen for a full 30 minutes after the final whistle. That's how big a Blade I am.
Nothing like a bit of communist party porn hub to clear the mind

I left Early about a minute before the whistle because I was sick of watching their number ten time wasting and diving about like a performing seal in the circus

I didn't sneak out, I quite brazenly walked out.

But since everybody wants to have a Bladey dick-waving contest, I follow this team everywhere, I spend money I can't afford to part with in that pursuit. I use precious holiday days just so I can get to get to midweek games away at whatever godforsaken part of the country we land in on that day.
I have shed blood, sweat and the occasional tear following this team in the past 22 years of my 32 on this earth. I've stood on open terraces getting piss-soaked through and dodged bricks. I've even broken bones.

I really don't require validation from a bunch of pixels on a screen about my level of commitment to this club, especially on the basis of leaving 11 minutes early for the 3rd time in my life.
In other words, mind your own fucking beeswax.

Thank you.

I think it's a little presumptuous questioning anybody's motives for staying or leaving at any time.

They're not your children, they don't owe you anything and they don't technically owe the team or club anything.
They've paid their ticket price and they have their own minds and consciousness to make a decision on whether they stay or leave.

It surprises me you're so bothered by it.

For what it's worth i don't leave till the whistle.

Don't be surprised, some people will always need to reaffirm that they are the biggest bladey big bollox.

A lot of people say it isn’t other people’s business if you leave early, but it is. When a whole row has to stand up to let you out then the whole row behind loses sight of the pitch for 30 seconds or so of what might be the last 2 minutes.

OK, some people have trains / time commitments but at least wait for a break in play, and don’t just react to other people around you going and follow suit so that the row stands up, sits down and then has to stand up again.

So before you decide to walk out consider those around you, and also ask yourself if leaving would seem so necessary if we were winning.

I sit on an aisle seat, so no, it's still nobody's business.

No indication of how recent these 3 times are.

I am now seriously concerned that Tyler Durden is on the slippery slope. This will be confirmed by likely posts
"Is Billy really all that",
"Do we still need Billy",
"Billy needs to go"

and "Sharp out!".

It is the thin end of the wedge, I tell you. Other likely signs may include a significant lowering in the temperature of Hell, to below zero.

To be fair to the OP, it was a mass exodus of people. You can’t just chalk that down to “beat the traffic”. Thankfully some of the people who spent the game berating half the players pissed off near me so at least it gave us a little respite.

It makes me laugh sometimes, we’ve sung “Is there a fire drill?” on enough away days recently when things have gone our way to be able to recognise that a few threw the towel in earlier than they should.

I stayed right until the end - clapped the players off - then got into the car and listened to a full recording from BBC Radio Sheffield of the game all the way home - then got home - watched the highlights, wrote each of the players a thank you letter for their performance last night and then went to bed and dreamed about the game all night.

Couldn't be a bigger Blade if I tried (and I am trying).

After reading the OP, I was hoping for a unifying of the forum moment.
Something along the lines of Spartacus...
"I'm Mr Meadows"
"I'm Mr Meadows!"
"No I'm Mr Meadows..."

It's a long established fact that people need their glass of milk and beans on toast by 10pm after midweek games.

So that explains it.

Hear hear.
Bravo bravo!

I stayed to the end, the very end. In fact I was the last person out of the BLUT.

I actually soiled myself when Fulham scored their 5th and really didn't want to risk anyone noticing o_O

A

an aisle seat - heaven! Could only get 3 season tickets together middle of row!

It's restricted view unfortunately. A pillar blocks the left side of the pitch. Bloody ticket office swore blind it wasn't restricted as well.
