I don’t really get some of the meltdowns I’ve seen on here since final whistle yesterday. Tin hat firmly on....

We dominated the first half of that game. They maybe came back into it just before half time but we created two really good chances and ran the show, particularly Fleck and Norwood.

We won almost every second ball all game. JOC was excellent and made some crucial interceptions.

They had a spell when they scored, but as a fanbase we seem to forget that this division is littered with very good players and sometimes they perform. It doesn’t make us rubbish when they do.

When we were losing, we dominated again, constantly got it forward and were unlucky not to get anything. Madine was particularly useful when he came on.

I just don’t think some people realise how lucky they are watching us every week. I doubt the players hear anything about this forum but if I were one of them and I’d seen what was written yesterday, I’d think we were ungrateful.

Sometimes even very good teams lose football matches. I enjoyed watching us still and even if you can’t accept the performance, that handball at the end was a penalty and the referee missed it.

Tin hat and body armour on: anyone who thinks that was “wank” simply doesn’t know anything about football.

I agree mostly with the OP. I think that we pressed harder and higher in the first half than we have all season. We made good chances and should have been 2 up, and then able to control the game from a leading position.

However, we do have a fairly old side and in the second half we were knackered and noticeably slower.

With our players working that hard it is a gamble, which should have paid off yesterday but didn’t. But it beats Pulisball or Cloughball any day.

Meltdown every loss, I’m surprised you’re surprised.

Being in a topsy turvy league is the absolute worst for us, as the fragile amongst our support get the razors out if Balti Pies run out at half time, let alone a couple of defeats.

As Tufty said post match, we've been in every game we've lost this season bar Boro, small margins and one or two decisions/mistakes make the difference in this division. I don't mind losing if we're playing the way we want to see us play, players will have off days, we will lose matches such is the way of things but there's defeats and there's the defeats we've had to suffer in recent years.

We got outplayed for 30 minutes. They scored. We were the better team for a lot of the game but didn't take 2 great chances. Small margins

I would say one great chance mate. Simple header for McG, short, straight line, into the net.

Billy's chance caught him off balance, if he had let the ball go past, it lands at McG's feet, and maybe a simple tap in.

It's history now anyway.

We never looked like scoring a goal at any point in the game.

Small margins, needed a bit more quality in final third yesterday. 12 out of last 15 points we would have taken before. Move on.

We played well in the first half.

In the second, Swansea overwhelmed us for around 15 minutes, but we didn't play well second half at all. Just like FLDC, we dropped 10 yards deeper, didn't really get hold of it, lost impetuous.

The strikers let us down first half - they'll know it. But everyone's performance dropped a notch second half.

Indeed - backed up generally by what CW said.

We lost the game in the first half - we've done it a few times this season.

We've simply got to put it behind us (club, players, fans AND forum members) and move on - the prize is still well within our reach.

The most disappointing aspect of our play yesterday was the angle of the long high balls we were aiming at Madine. We totally stopped trying to work the ball down the wings as we usually do & cross from near the byline, which means that creates a direct chance for a header on goal; why we were slinging it in from just a few yards past the halfway line was baffling to me I have to say.
Another thing I noticed that I didn't like was that Norwood dropped even deeper in the last 20 minutes which left a huge gap between the rest of the attacking players & himself, he could have easily pushed on 30 yards & given himself a better chance of playing a killer pass..

I don't think we looked knackered second half, when we lose why does it get said we look knackered but never when we win? same players generally playing at the same pace every game, if we had stuck a deserved equaliser in would anybody start going on about an aging, knackered side? No.

Dunno if it's age, fitness etc. but when we've scored first we've only lost twice this season (13 wins, 2 draws). We need to try to put games to bed and then we can relax a bit and let the opposition worry about us catching them on the counter.

I saw the two chances: we missed both, and didn't look like scoring them.

Agree with most of the O/P...For me we had them penned in for much of the First Half, they couldn't get out, carved out 2 great chances and got in a few more good areas without capitalising.
Second Half they improved and started well, and we were the ones on the back foot before the goal...we just kept giving them the ball back and not clearing the ball properly...we struggled with their pace, and changed to a Diamond..and it was just the final ball, and not working the Keeper that was frustrating,as although they were decent 2nd half, they were there for the taking..Definate pen for me,but not the end of the world.

Why say this ?
You've made yourself look stupid

We carved out the grand total of 2 chances and muffed them both.

We created nothing of note in the second half.

We were flat and unthreatening.

We did not do well in my book.

If you think that's stupid, fine. It was not a good performance when compared to any of our last 4 games. It was basically an action replay of the WBA game with one less goal per side.

We played well for 45 minutes and we are genuine contenders for top 2 at least.
2 seasons ago we were playing in a Pub league , look how far CW has brought us without breaking the bank!
As for the 2 teams that came up with us that season Bolton and Millwall look where they are!
Great first half to the season, now let’s push on as we know we can

You mean you didn’t want us to look like scoring them. Bizarre

I wanted us to score, and win. We didn't do either.

Ok. We played well and we are a team of world beaters who were just unlucky yesterday.

Enough, I think.

We played well FIRST HALF
We played crap SECOND HALF

Much of the credit for both halves must go to Swansea. They were poor and couldn't cope with us first half. They changes their system and nullified the wingbacks whilst pushing the CBs back second half.

I'm getting sick and tired of meltdown being bandied around every time we lose. People have been rightly critical of the team and the manager after last night. Both deserve criticism against the high standards they've set. The fact criticism is seen as meltdown is ludicrous. This board does have meltdowns. Yesterday was not one of them.

By our standards it was wank.

Swansea, on paper are decent, but they were there for the taking, we should've taken at least two chances and it was a chance missed.

We did play well in the first half and controlled the match despite not creating too much.

Second half we forgot everything we did in the first half and our plan B which was lump it to Washing Machine didn't work either. The second half highlighted our glaring lack of pace when we need to counter teams quickly to get ourselves back into a match.

I think they know about wanking though.

Expectations are too high, what wilder and the boys have achieved is some kind of miracle but you only have to put the squads side by side on paper to.see that in every department most are stronger individually than ours ,fer for example looked a beast yesterday but I bet he doesn't play like that every week
Sometimes teams strengths counter your weaknesses ,we are not Manchester city if we try our best we will still sometimes lose

Just as if a striker misses a sitter it doesn't mean he is shit ,conversely fleck and Norwood being off key and being over run in midfield is not solely down to them being under par it is also because they came up against opponents who they struggle to deal with

All said and done if Billy of didsy score first half we win that game and go second in the league but some in here think that eing top two automatically means we are better than every one else and just have to turn up to win and will feel like we've thrown away a top two spot which just undermines and discredits a valiant effort for a top 6 spot which by rights we have no right to achieve

We didn’t play well, we didn’t play badly. We were fair to middling and as often happens when we play fair to middling, we don’t win. It’s the reaction that I’m interested in, more often than not this season we’ve reacted well. Let’s hope for the same again next weekend.
