We Need To Stick Together

Maybe they did/are Bushers.

It was more the point that Woody was claiming that managers would ONLY sign "old has beens" (I'm paraphrasing there) and not youngsters, which plainly seems to be the case with our current manager but his predecessors had no such concerns.

You mean like Che Adams, K Wallace, Scougal and McNulty? All "young" players Clough was happy to sign and play in front of the baying mob! Or the old stager Coady that Weir drafted in. Oh how scared he looked.

Add to that players like Naughton, Walker, Maguire and Kennedy who all came through at a young age to thrive playing for the club.

Maybe, just maybe, it's to do with the skill level of the players after all.

Does your memory tell you Clough played those players in the second half of last season when the chips were down?

Reasonable question Woody.

He played Scougal and McNuts (and you commented at length on his treatment of him) and the even younger Reed. Thinking back to the cup run to the semi the year before then Maguire, Scoogs and Coady were pretty much automatic choices.
Just think it's too simplistic to say the youngsters are scared to play at BDTBL.

Bit of banter on twitter between Matt Hill and some fans about our current plight ...

A Bramall Lane crowd is only difficult to play in front of if you don't have the mental strength to do so. These players are fortunate to be playing in front of the crowds that they are. In fact I cannot wait for those professional footballers who struggle to play in front of an expectant crowd to go off to the likes of Fleetwood, Crewe, Rochdale, Oldham etc. and play in front of fewer than 10,000 fans, of whom may tolerate their inabilities more so than Unitedites. Bottom line is that if they cannot cope with a big expectant crowd, they should not be here.

Absolutely true. So our players find it 'hard to play in front of large, expectant crowds' yet Fleetwood, Crewe, Rochdale, Shrewsbury etc.suddenly make it into 'their Cup Final'.

We can't win.

Still, most of our players won't have this problem next season. What will their excuses be then? 'Hard to get motivated'? 'Pitch is shit'? etc. etc.
