So says Blackwell when he talks about player recruitment.
What does he mean and where is it taking us?

"We get rid of our better players, and replace them with not so good players, but still promise a fair go at promotion"

(yes, my tongue is firmly in my cheek )

We pretend we are a big club able to attract big players but when it comes down to it no-one wants to play negative hoofball for a tactically inept manager.

His way of saying we can't get anyone to sign for us and everyone who's any good wants to leave.

I would assume he is talking about the 75K that the agent wanted to seal the deal last week. Basically it seem like our board and manager are taking a principled stand against what they see as extortionate agent fees.
Which raises an interesting question. As fans would you rather our club pay these agents what they want, after all everyone else does or are they right to take a principled stance against them?

Me, I'm for the principled stance. Pay the agent the going rate any additional payments shouldn't be met. I think its a strange environment where the agents working for the player get paid by the club. The agent should be paid by his employer be that the club or the player.

I don't know where you've lifted the quote from - but maybe it's in relation to the fact that we haven't allowed agents to hold us over a barrel?

I'm pleased that some of these out of contract players haven't signed if they felt that the pay packet was that much more important than pulling on our stripes - Let them go and be mercenaries elsewhere.

As for "no-one wants to play negative hoofball for a tactically inept manager" - I can name a few -

Bunn
Taylor
Walker
Davies
Reid
Harper
Williamson
Reid
Treacy
Little
Cresswell
Evans

and all so inept that they're still in the play-off positions.

And what actual proof do you have of anyone wanting to leave?

I reckon the players should pay the agent, after all it's them that are engineering a move for the player.

One way or the other we would end up paying I reckon 'cos the player would simply add his agents costs into his demands.

Fine we pay the player and it's all above board and on the QT.
There isn't any, oh yeah and I want 75K and a PS3 with 20 games or I'm taking him elsewhere bollocks.

But it ain't above board is it FB and the agent still gets his dosh and his PS3 etc. Either clubs get together and agree a way of reigning these guys in or we're on our own as usual.

Ah but what the player will actually see is our club paying him money, and then him having to shell out to his agent. Sure he will of gotten an higher fee from us but even the thickest of players would see that an agent asking for an extra 75K to grease the wheels is taking the piss and might decide to use a different agent.
It makes it a lot different when the money is in your account and you have to give it someone else, regardless of you getting more from the club originally.

Good point FB. I don't always allow for the fact that mental abilities don't always match footy abilities!

:) Unfortunately it isn't even about mental ability its about one of the strongest human instinct's, greed.

If your company said they would give you a proportional wage increase but you wouldn't get paid your annual leave I would wager more people would actually take fewer holidays. Same would go for Medical cover (if your company has it) if it came out of your wage it wouldn't be long before people started thinking about how much cover they actually need and look to cut back.

:D:D:D:D:D

The thread title made me laugh !

Wait until Manure ,Arsnic,Chelski catch on :p

I don't know where you've lifted the quote from"

The full quote was in last night's Sheffield Star:- "The lads who are here are still learning exactly what I want from them because we do things differently here to quite a few other clubs".

So it's nothing to do with agents as he's talking about players who have already signed. I think he's talking about improving their fitness levels and specific tactical nuances. Probably something to do with the marking system we use but I haven't seen us do anything particularly different to other clubs. Maybe Bergen could elaborate? ;)

he's talking about training a mate of mine is friends with one of the new signings parents and apparently it is the best training he has ever done at any club (that will be speeds influence) however the game at the end is just a joke all they practice is rolling the ball out to morgan or walker and hoofing it up to hendo then the midfield try and pick up any balls not won.
yes we do things different at this club

Well if that's true then we really do have problems. Even school sports teachers have more nouse than that!

Cheers SB - I don't live in Sheffield and only get to catch up with the Star about once a fortnight so missed that one!

its definetly the training he is on about and the quote was a bout 2 weeks ago when he had just signed harper and was talking of the high intensity of the training
