We are Bilbao

My favourite Bilbao story is the one about the Bar Bilbao on O'Riley Street in Havana. Was on Cuba during Euro 2016 and obviously watched a few games. Bar Bilbao is the ultimate football anoraks heaven. You can't move for shirts scarves and penants from the 4 corners of the word.
Athletic were on Cuba some years ago pre season and chances to call in.
They were adopted by the locals and after returning home sent a ton of Bilbao kit and merch for the local kids and the Bar.
Over the years visitors have added their clubs stuff until it is really overflowing.
Add to that it's still state owned and a bottle of Crystal is about 50p in local currency not CUC.
Prooer football heaven.

I wish we were as good as Bilbao. Would say there more like a Everton/Leicester in terms of quality

Only been on day trips from Bilbao by bus, there's so much choice of places to eat it's really just a case of going somewhere that looks interesting. You don't have to go Michelin the choice is that good. Not a great deal of English spoken in places though, one restaurant a sixteen year old translated the menu for us!

Dare to be different - l had raw tuna belly, not realising it was raw when l ordered it. It was incredible - personally I'd save the pinxtos, not, tapas, for Bilbao and have the main meal of the day in SS. (That's not to say Bilbao isn't good, it is, but far more choice in SS).

You can get the train system from Bilbao to the coast if it's a nice day, dead easy journey to Plentzia. Flattish place, nice beach and some great cafes and bars serving nice food.

One of the really good things about Bilbao for those who haven't been, is the airport transfer to the town centre. The bus stop is bang outside, takes about thirty forty minutes and costs around two euros. Drops you in the centre, and near to the old town as well.

Thanks for that. Popped into the station for a nosey. Obvs the Guggenheim
Loved the Old Town. Another similarity with Sheffield is the fucking hills!
As you say the airport is wonderfully located. Only been to Lisbon and Seville where the bus ride into town is as quick, easy and cheap.
I'll be going to SS next spring.
