WAYNE Routledge could emerge as a surprise target for Sheffield United as Bryan Robson continues his search for new faces despite drawing a blank during the closing stages of the summer transfer window.

Robson failed in his attempt to capture Bolton Wanderers' Ivan Campo before Friday's deadline for permanent signings, but remains hopeful that he can persuade the former Spain defender to drop down into the Championship on a short-term basis later this month.

I noticed yesterday that Spurs were willing to let him go on loan, and thought to myself he'd be a decent signing if we went for him.

Hopefully this is true.

Agreed Keenzy ... Keeping clean sheets should help the team mentally ... Then the goals are almost guaranteed ... Sharp, Beattie, Webber, Hulse (when back), Stead & Shelton are all capable of getting the goals for us

Sheffield United have been linked with former Crystal Palace, Fulham and Portsmouth winger Wayne Routledge from Tottenham Hotspur on loan.

Blades boss Bryan Robson is keen to strengthen his midfield after a series of disappointing results and performances and after the failed loan bids of Bolton Wanderers duo Stelios and Ivan Campo has seen Wayne Routledge as another potential target.

Robson is also desperate for cover after injuries to Lee Hendrie and Gary Naysmith.

Tony Mowbray is ready to rival Sheffield United manager Bryan Robson in the chase to sign Wayne Routledge.

West Brom boss Mowbray wants to take Spurs winger Routledge on loan to fire up his Championship promotion charge.

Mowbray is an admirer of Routledge, who is facing an uncertain future at White Hart Lane under Martin Jol.

Looks like West Brom want him aswell.

West Brom boss Tony Mowbray has confirmed Wayne Routledge is not on his way to The Hawthorns, despite reports of a switch.

The Tottenham winger had been linked with a loan move to the Baggies in order to get some first team football, but Mowbray says that will not be happening.

"I don't know where this has come from," he said on West Brom's official website.

"Routledge is a player we talked about two months ago but it never materialised and we moved on."

Looks like there out of the running then.

Good news for us perhaps.

I don't understand why this kid always gets bigged up on Blades forums. I have never seen him change a game or even have a great game whoever he's been playing for - I'd say he was a waste of space.
