Afternoon lads,

I'm hopefully going to make it down to home/away game (or both) next season.

Where are the finest and rowdiest boozing establishments for Blades fans on a match day?

And what is the best away day in the league? At the moment my closest away day will be Carlisle presuming United aren't promoted.

And how are people with Scottish accents received in Yorkshire? Should I keep my head down or will singing the Greasy Chip Butty song in an Aberdonian twang be met with warm embrace?

Cheers,
AB

Best pubs is difficult, because everyone pretty much has their favourite pub locked in to their matchday routines and there are plenty to choose from. Rowdiest is at a guess going to be either Sportsman or Cricketers on Bramall Lane close by, but otherwise take your pick on London Road . The finest establishment for eating and drinking is the Rutland, where many quality posters (and BoSS) can often be found.

Your accent won't even be noticed, Sheffield is a big student city these days so heads don't turn when a non dee-dar voice pipes up.

Depends what your definition of "finest" is.

Pre-match, you'll find Blades in: The Barrel, The Scholar, The Crown, The Sportsman, The Cricketers, The Railway, The Cremorne, The Royal Standard, The Sheaf and our local, The Golden Lion.... then in various city centre establishments, Rutland, Red Lion etc. http://goo.gl/maps/pxILd

They're all basically your standard pub fayre.

If you're sticking around for the weekend and want some proper beer, see the Real Ale thread in General Chat and give us a shout for some better recommendations.

If they and we don't go up, Brentford is a decent trip. It'd be a long trek from your neck of the woods though. Preston's not bad either. You want Grimsby to come storming up the leagues for a decent day out.

We're a friendly bunch down here, and more metropolitan than your question suggests. No accent is out of place when you're a big University city like ours.

Cheers for the suggestions folks and I hope you don't think I was suggesting Sheffield is an uninviting city to outsiders :)

I'm in London for a week in August when Scotland are playing England, hopefully the Blades have an away game against Brentford/Orient around the time I'm down.

Or in a more ideal world, Millwall or Palalce!

Oh yeah, there's a wee rivalry there isn't there?

I detest any team that contains the word 'Rangers' so I'll gladly join in with the hate on that one.

I was thinking Palace is truly awful to get to while Millwall needs no further explanation...

QPR is just a quality London away day. :)

Blimey Linz, the way things are heading, we'll have one pub per fan soon :(
