The one thing I would say about the Prince's interview, as balanced as he seems (it is of course one side of the situation...) is whilst we have spent a lot in our terms for SUFC, we still didn't spend enough to land leading targets across all areas of the team.

As such, the standard of the side has suffered, as has the squad depth when the injuries have hit in relentless fashion this season. The starting 11 hasn't been improved, and it's overly simplistic to place the blame solely at Wilder's door for that.

Must be onto your second box of tissues by now pal.

The way the club has dealt with the departing staff, publicly, has left something to be desired.
The facilities are still tinpot and we are championship bound. Lets hope hes still a big blade if we struggle next year when it hurts.

Hes a businessman at the end of the day, with increasingly more interests than just us (the current crown jewel). Falling in love with your chairman is the road to heartbreak/ looking stupid.
Really mature response ,are you like twelve or something ?

It's an interesting one. If we'd signed Cash, Swift, Wilson, A Robinson and Watkins that's almost £80m in fees and £245k a week in wages. And I think that puts us over WBA and about on par with Fulham based on the fact there'd still be no defensive replacement and we'd likely have Moore or Fotheringham in goal.

Noticed from the times article about the academy there are plans (delayed by Covid apparently) to have a new site for the training ground and use Shirecliffe purely as the academy. Maybe I missed it but that was news to me. I wonder where they're considering for the training ground?

I like the prince and I agree with much of what he has said but we'll know much more about his plans for the club in the next year. I'm reserving judgement until well into next season.
Hillsborough. Nothing like stamping your authority all over the city.

Swift and Wilson have missed most of the season.through injury andvrobinson has been dropped by a Fulham team that can't defend leads so I reckon wed be about where we are

Wasn’t it the other way around? Academy to be up at Norton. First team to remain at Shirecliffe (redeveloped).

I believe you're right S64 but IMHO that's not the right way to go.

The site at Norton would be a complete blank canvas and could be designed and built exactly how we wanted so surely we'd want the 1st team at the brand new and shiny site.

You say overly simplistic to place the blame solely at Wilders door.
He has been responsible for spending £130m yet only Ramsdale and berge are guaranteed a place as an alternative to the players who took us up into the premiership.
Wilder either would not play his new signings because they were not good enough or because they could not fit the round peg into the square hole.
That is a fault of no one other than the manager who was responsible for signing the players.
You could say that he did not have the funds to spend, if that were the case why not only buy half the number of players and subsequently in theory improve the quality of players purchased?
Wages could then have been allocated to better quality players.
The likes of berge, Ramsdale and Brewster have not come here for buttons.

Wilder brought us great success, I enjoyed his first four years and he gave me pride back in my football club but to not lay the blame firmly at his door for the fact that the team which gained promotion has not been improved is incorrect.

And I must say I've watched it 20x and I can't fault anything he says,he mentions money but that's coz he's a businessman but he also seems to have sufc in his best interests.View attachment 109975
If you listened 20x then you must also have wondered about why he said certain things, the perspective as you say is from a businessman's....

However, as i said on the original thread, theres plenty in there which makes you wonder what went on between the lines of what he said.

As i said previously, its the Princes version of events, on his terms and without any other side to the story.

For a businessman with so many years experience in football, theres a lot of contradiction and he's quite niave.

As always, his next move will be the one he's judged on for sacking Wilder

It's certainly an interesting question. Let's have a look what would have happened if we had got all our top targets.

I know we've had horrendous injuries so this isn't what the team would have been all season but the post is all ifs and buts anyway so i'll go with what our best 11 would have been.

Based on getting our top targets:

Cash = £16.5m and £60k pw
Swift = £6m and £30k pw
Wilson = £20m and £100k pw
Robinson = Free and £50k pw
Watkins = £33m and £75k pw

Total Outlay = £75.5m and £315k pw

------------Rambo---------------
--------Bash Egan JOC-----------
Cash Swift Berge Fleck Robinson
--------Watkins Wilson----------

Based on who we did get:

Brewster = £23.5m and £35k pw
Bogle = £5m and £20k pw
Lowe = £3m and £20k pw
Burke = -£3m and £30k pw
Foderingham = Free and £15k pw
Ampadu = Free and £30k pw

Total Outlay = £34.5m and £150k pw

-----------------Rambo----------------
-------------Bash Egan JOC------------
Baldock Berge Ampadu Fleck Stevens
-----------McBurnie Brewster----------

So based on the above we spent a lot less in fees AND wages however where I don't agree with your point is that if you look at the team if we'd got out top targets there's no way IMHO that team is anywhere near a relegation battle.

I know transfer fees are always on different payment terms but looking at it simplistically we spent £41m less in fees and £8.58m in wages so let's for ease of sake our outlay was £50m less.

We're going to lose £70m next season just in broadcasting revenue before everything else is taken into account so would we have been better paying out for our top targets rather than backing off???

You need to add Ramsdales fee and salary to your calculation. Swift was £7.5m. Robinson £2.5m.

JOC was always injured it happened last season. Fleck has been injury prone for a while now. Berge's injury? Who knows.

There's still no strength in depth. Those players weren't accepting relegation wage drops when others were in for them. And I'm genuinely not sure how much more they add. Cash and Watkins are definitely upgrades. Wilson has a long injury history and is hurt again. Robinson? Meh. Unless you can find an extra £18.5m and £30k a week Moore is your keeper.

No one knows either way and with an NDA, we’ll never hear the other side of the tale.
We probably will. Not many non official secrets acts NDA's are forever. But I'll trust Wilder's story as much as I trust the owners. Partial truth to make them look good

Yes, but I imagine that in the indeterminable future.

We haven’t had CW’s side of the story until then, certainly not a 10 minute interview covering everything, warts & all. Will probably come out in a book when the Prince has sold up.

Until then we judge the Prince on us having a good go at getting straight back up. It starts now with the calibre of managerial appointment, then retention of key players, then quantum of investment on quality additions. Just hope it’s not same owd, same owd. 😊

We'll see. My pessimism about United is back with a vengence 😂

Some people do know as Wilder lives and breathes Sheffield, it’s quite obvious that’s he’s not been sacked though as the Swizzler wrote. 😁

Except that you need to spread the transfer fees over the length of the contracts. So you are talking about £20m rather than £75m. But then you have that £20m every year. Add that to the wages and your annual outlay for 5 players is £36million. Then add last years signings and suddenly you have £60million annual outlay. Then do the same next year and that is suddenly all your income on maybe 13-14 players. How do you run the rest of the club?

If it was quite obvious it wouldn’t have been discussed to death on here for the last few weeks. 😉

Well I think it’s pretty obvious he’s not been sacked, especially given how the Prince said he would never sack him. If he was to be sacked by the Prince it would’ve been ages ago for his inept performances as a football manager judged by his results alone, not when he did, it would’ve made no sense at all to do it when we did, the Prince isn’t daft enough to sack the best chance we have of promotion back to the Prem, he isn’t McCabe. He walked, fairly obvious to me anyway Rodley. 😉😁

Interestingly Watkin's goal tally with Grealish out injured is 0. That's probably a better comparison to see how he would have fared in our team!

(Edit: Sorry he scored 1 last week)
I agree he's not been as good as people may think. He's only actually scored in 7 of 30 games (in a team decidedly better than ours).

But he's just a better footballer than our centre forwards

I might have missed it, but is Verrips not allowed to play for us at all? I thought he’d been getting a good rap for his efforts in the Netherlands. Are we sure he’s not better than Moore and Waste of Money Wes?

I thought he came across pretty well in the majority but also showed some naivety and a few areas didn’t add up.

The most obvious one for me was on wages. That one point and the support he gave ticked me off a bit. The examples he gave of having a competitive wage bill showed either ignorance or a naivety.

Set aside that the interview came out before the stat accounts were submitted, the examples of us signing Ramsdale, Brewster, Mousset and Besic as the loan example should really have been pulled up on.

I can’t see any of those being on anything more than low end of the wage bill for their respective previous clubs. Ramsdale only just broke into the Bournemouth first team, Brewster through youth academy and on loan last season at Swansea, Mousset would not be on first team wages at Bournemouth of the same ilk of Solanke, Wilson, King etc, Besic was on loan in the championship at Boro for a couple of years.

Glaringly obvious we aren’t able to financially compete on wages and I think it’s a bit underhand to suggest that we are giving these as examples.

Then you see the stat accounts and we’re miles off the rest of the league as well as some in the championship.

So you weren't there in 75/76 then?

Some people are just drama queens
It's almost like opinions differ sometimes.

And you are right, you are being a bit of a Drama Queen worrying about it so much
