Was the possibility of Premier League riches partly to blame for yesterday's result?

A young, unproven David Brooks turns the eye of a few Prem clubs after a sublime nutmeg, cool finish and lucky cross/goal sufficiently to be able to wave goodbye to more experienced team-mates with proven ability no doubt thinking, "Lucky B******d, he's set up for life now'
Other Prem clubs then show an interest in JOC and reportedly JF, both key players when we play well, but yesterday were strangely 'off form'. Co-incidence or maybe a little disgruntlement that a reported 5 Mill offer for one and an undisclosed enquiry for the other had been turned down?
Maybe we should cash in on JOC, not because of how he has/hasn't responded to the PL interest, but because with his and the DB money, we could buy the right players (although weirdly, JOC is already the type of player we need!) Then again, with our transfer policy, would CW go for what we could afford or stick with the what we think they're worth and whether they'll fit into our wage structure.
Intriguing times ahead.

It's OK bidding club record moneyfor players but when it's for players that fit our wage structure we are fishing in a small pond. I admire Wilder's prudence but to realistically challenge for promotion we have to lift the wage budget.

I suspect you're right BW, but when you listen to CW saying something like, "This is how we do it to maintain a stable club compared to the likes of....he mentions no names but 'they' probably don't reside a million miles from Sheffield city centre! you have to consider whether we need a lot more patience waiting for the JOC/JF type nuggets to come along, rather than chucking money at it in the hope it will pay off.

as a body, aren't we - by some distance - the most patient supporters of a team (that attracts the size of crowd we do) in the country already?

By a long, long way. The last time we had a decent period of success at the highest level of the English game, Queen Victoria was on the throne and FA Cup Finals were played at Crystal Palace. Depending on which part of Sheffield you’re from, that’s between 3 and 10 generations ago.

Couldn’t agree more. Sell up. Sell at the first bid. No player is bigger than the club. Get a brand new fax machine for good measure. Who needs good players? Brighton need them more than us.

Makes me wonder why we didn't try for Gwion Edwards who looked class for Ipswich on his debut £700k from Peterborough.

We need to do that just to compete in the Championship
League One wages will eventually lead to League One.......AGAIN

Who says we are paying league one wages? JOC has had 2 new contracts since promotion and the mainstay of the team have had at least 1 if not more with contract negotiations set to take place for others in the near future. The difference is we aren’t prepared to throw stupid money at it and risk the clubs finances especially when there are 10-12 clubs doing it and only 3 places up for grabs. Take a look across on the dark side for a perfect example or does that not fit in with your regular Blades bashing? We are increasing our wage structure but it has to be done gradually so as to keep squad harmony as Wilder says

Several outs becuase of FFP concerns and they are still struggling to get that tricky Brazilian winger in; Em Bargo.
