Was the 1979 derby, all ticket at the pig pen?

I don't recall many Pigs on the Kop in our home game. There were plenty of Blades on the Kop at the sty, it kicked off and they were escorted off.

The hatred at those two games was palpable. A Wendy mate said the home game was the most intimidating atmosphere he'd ever been in. The return game was one of the greatest nights for atmosphere we've ever seen. Ian StJohn said he'd never seen anything like it, loads of flares etc. Said it was like a major European game.

It kicked off after both games as well.

I'm on this :D

I hope they set about us the same way King and Mellor set about us back then, especially the "tackles" that went in on Sabella, and after 20 minutes they'll be down to 9 men.

It sounded like 20,000 were locked out because your old man bought two tickets :D
Bert and his gang arrived at 2pm, saw the massive queues so just pushed in at the front. No doubt that meant that half a dozen Unitedites didn't get in.

I really thought we might go on to wipe out Boxing Day memories that day. Was that the game where Ward was having a blinder but went off injured?

The silly bastard ran out to the Kop at the first home game with his arms outstretched expecting a warm welcome. People were all over the fences trying to gob at him, lobbing spare change and he took some right abuse.

A wanker as a person, he'd been brilliant for Wendy but which silly bastard at the Lane that thought it might be a good idea, I'll never know.

"Where's your caravan..."
Curran was giving it the big "I am" at Southend the day after his transfer to Everton had fallen through.

One of the youngsters he was signing autographs for asked if he was staying ,and Curran starts giving him this spiel about loyalty,so I asked him outright " how the fuck would you know about loyalty? You engineered a move here, and it's well known you're off to Everton, just not yet"

His face was like thunder, and he muttered something, much to the amusement of the other lads I was stood with.

Old "Loyal" got his move.....

Sabella was never the same in my eyes after that game. It was pissing it down, freezing cold and he got a clog early on. He spent the rest of the game hiding behind the referee. One of the most gutless performances from a Blade ever and went a large way towards explaining the result.
I've seen a video on You Tube about that game. A United player interviewed said the Wednesday players singled out Sabella in the tunnel before the game and he took a bit of a beating. A melee ensued and we came off second best with a few players needeing to change shirts. The rest is history.
