Was the 1979 derby, all ticket at the pig pen?

I was there but i can't remember if it was all ticket. Me and my mates all went together (pigs included), and we all sat together in the stand with the clock on top.
I remember other blades around us also ,so was it a free for all on the day?

Got to say it was the worst away day of my life, even beating the Wembley loss to the tossers. Let's hope the tide turns for this one. Nowt worse than being poked by a pig in their own back yard, so come on karma do the buis this time.

Away days were much better then, decide in the pub on Friday night who was going, then set off Saturday morning for a good day out.... mostly.

Yeah.. that was a bad day, but could have been much different if McPhail had scored instead of hitting the bar, who knows?

I was there on the Lepps end. I remember that a group of Blades went on their kop and were waving to us throughout the game. Afterwards there were loads of cream-coloured buses waiting to take us back into town. The pig fans threw rocks at ours. There may have been a special train to and from Wadsley Bridge station too, which was still open then. No tram of course. And yes, you just paid on the day. I got in as a juvenile (which I was at the time)

So on the morning on Boxing Day 1979 I stood outside the Leppings Lane gates asking Blades if they had any spare tickets that they could sell. No one had any tickets to sell.

So as an act of desperation I went to an almost empty SW ticket office 15 minutes before kick-off.
Asked them if they had any spare tickets for the away end, they replied "no, all sold".
So I asked for anywhere in ground, they said the only tickets left in the ground are in their Kop.

So me and my brother went into Wednesday's Kop, the gangway steps had dissapeared because they were packed with people. You couldn't move anywhere so had to stay right at the back and I couldn't see a thing. I remember thinking if anyone near the front fence down at the bottom wanted to go to the toilet it would take a good 20 minutes for them to wade through the crowd to get to the top in which time they'd have probably pissed em selves. No wonder people had pisses on the terracing.

I also remember seeing a few Unitedites (kids) wearing red and white scarfs whilst at the back of Wednesday's Kop. Home and away fans used to mix more in them days.

Our match at Old Trafford on October 2nd 1971 wasn't all ticket. My dad wisely decided to buy two stand tickets in advance. As a result about 20,000 fans were locked out

Home and away fans mixed in 1979 you are kidding me aren't you?
Pigs did come on The Shoreham in the return game but were surrounded by coppers 10 deep but that's normal for them at the Lane anyway

It would be closer to the truth to say that there were no Pigs on the Sty Kop at Easter 1971. What few Pigs attended, were predominantly in the South and North stands.

As my memory serves me, it was all ticket for both sets of fans.
I know this as up to the day of the game I'd not got a ticket and as we were having boxing day breakfast at the in laws radio Sheffield ( or Hallam) announced there were tickets spare for their Kop, first come first served.
Me and the bro in law (pig) asked permission from our rotweillers to go and set off, managed to get tickets.
And so began the worst experience of my football life.... A drubbing by the arch enemy and stood in the middle of em.... Excruciating...

Sounds like something one of their cretins would claim.

The fact that the 2 attendances at the Sty prior to derby day were 10,563 and 11,530, and the 2 games after derby day had gates of 13,287 and 11,958, is indicative of the fact that the gate at the Sty was inflated by one thing: the large Blades numbers. The Sty was roughly half and half that day.

And that stands to reason, given that we approached that game on a high, getting appreciably higher gates than them, and we were expecting to hammer them. The Pigs hadn't quite go their hoofball firing on all cylinders up to that point of the season and were not relishing the fixture quite like we were.

I'm sure it was all ticket for blades fans. This was the first match I ever bought a ticket for . It was also the first away match I want to. It was an amazing sight seeing that many people in a football ground (shithole) in those days.

Remember walking down Shrewsbury Road to the return game,as a 9yr old with my pond Street mob big sister and at the bottom on the roundabout where McDonald's is now blades and pigs were scrapping like hell,never seen as much claret in my young life at the time,thought people were going to die!!!...

Boxing Day '79 was definitely All-Ticket for both home and away fans. It was the first time I had ever heard the expression and I had to ask my dad what it meant. I remember going down to Bramall Lane one evening with my dad and having to queue at the turnstiles on Cherry Street for tickets. I remember my dad asking where you were supposed to queue and some bloke saying "Do you wanna go to Grimsby?" as I think we had drawn them in the FA Cup.

Free buses were running after the game. It was an 11 o'clock kick off. Return game at Easter was all ticket also. Pigs on the Kop and trouble throughout game. Pigs were a lot cockier then than they are now or maybe that's because I no longer live in Sheffield and never meet any!

When you say 'Leppings Lane Upper' I presume you mean corner terracing? The West Stand was all-seated and was full of Wendies singing 'Boxing Day massacre'. Me and my dad originally entered behind the goal but it was absolutely rammed so I remembered my cousin's advice to head for the corner terrace where it would be less crowded. I often thought of that post-1989.
