Was it a dive?

Just looking at video behind the scenes 11-19 in tried moving it on frame by frame and it looks as if he wasnt touched but the video isnt very large and ive got shit eyesight

We sit on the 3rd row from the front of the Kop and had a decent view.

We tended to think it was all Wilfred Zaha-ish.
Nice body swerve from McAtee, their defender stuck his leg out, then McAtee ran into his trailing leg and fell down.
We didn't think there was quite enough contact for a penalty but thats the type of stuff VAR tends to give.
VAR would just be looking for contact and they don't seem to take into account the strength of the contact.

I think if we had played better in the 1st half dominating the game...the ref probably gives us the decision
but a draw at half time was a fair scoreline so the ref didn't want to give us the decision.

Wilfred Zaha-ish? Damning criticism indeed though few can out Zaha the Zaha.

Thing is if you don't go down you get nothing, so although not good to see, we can't blame players for going down easy..
Im inclined to agree with this part of your post. I've heard commentators say things such as "there's not enough contact for it to be a penalty" when the exact same incident on the halfway line would be deemed a free kick. There does seem to be an unwritten rule where penalties have to be more of a challenge than a free kick does. I'd like to see comparisons of it. A shirt pull on halfway - free kick. Shirt pull in the box? Sometimes a penalty. Look at all the pushing and shoving at corners. It was full on on Saturday. The ref walks over and points at a couple of em as if to say "no need for that", but it continues. When the corner is delivered they're still at it, yet nothing is given. Guarantee on the halfway like from a goal kick there'd be a whistle blown. It's the inconsistencies that piss me off more than owt else.

Talking of cheats ...........

Bamford is a fuckin disgrace to the game. I hit my wife* harder than that and she doesn't go down that easy.

Well, she does. Giggity. HOOYEAHH

* I don't. It's merely an analogy.

Player doesn't help with the way he goes down, maybe he should stumble then fall 🤔 make it look more authentic 😅.
But no I hate divers but also if is he fouled he is found and should be awarded accordingly.

Sorry mate I disagree. I blame them, it's cheating plain and simple.
Yes, don't get me wrong, I don't like it either mate, don't like cheating. But we all know staying on your feet the ref is unlikely to give a pen unfortunately, so encourages them to go down.

SUTV clearly shows that they 'Touched' toes!, NOT a pen IMHO.
I'm sick of this diving/cheating, not too long ago it was called the 'Foreign Disease' creeping into our game!, but it is now something that is performed by 1 & all!, even practiced on the training grounds by some!.
This. I’m fed up of pundits banging on about “contact”. That has sod all to do with it being a foul or not. The only contact that matters is something that is a) technically illegal according to the rules and of sufficient force to constitute foul play. Anything else is just the normal consequence of a contact sport. If the game was now played according to the apparent new interpretation touted by most of the numpty’s sitting on the couch in a studio tackling or competing for the ball would be obsolete.

Must be the replay I saw as I thought he kicked his left foot as he moved forward, and it was a clear penalty? Ref probably only looking at the right leg which didn't make contact, but the first kick unbalanced him, and he went down.

In my son's under 13 game on Sunday, one of his players was clipped in the box, worse than mcatee on Saturday, but stayed upright. The ref says to him at half time, you go down it's a pen. Honestly.

Apart from if you play for Sheffield United and if you go down its not a penalty.

If a defender plays basketball in the box it's still not a penalty.

That's the problem. Why should he go down? If there's contact, allow the shot or pass (advantage) but them give it.
