McCabe's in a casino he can't leave and his choice for his last 50p is to buy a shit sandwich or put it on black. There's only one option: we've got to gamble. No established manager is going to take the risk.

Or Jacket is feeling lucky and he walks up to McCabe and asks for the 50p to put on red.

He's probably looking at the shite Adams and Wilson signed with their extended budgets and thinks that bigger budget = more experienced players who are rubbish.

It's chicken and egg though. He's the one picking the managers in the first place.

It all started with Robson, a bad choice who spent fortunes and wasted it, it's been the same case except with gradually less money since then.

Now if he doesn't trust anyone with a decent budget, it's his own fault because we've wasted it from poor managerial appointments in the past.

Now it looks like both the appointment and the budget will be done on the cheap, which leads to the fear of a continual downward spiral, unless we hit on an appointment of an relative unknown who turns out to have the talent.

It's going to be a gamble, but we're down to not much choice, a depressing state of affairs.

That may be true, but of course giving a tiny budget to a rookie manager seems to be a dumb idea on a stand-alone basis.

Actually, all this reduced budget stuff is probably this month's version of our grand plan. ie, "Yeovil had a 2 million budget and went up so we should do that", like in April we had "Wednesday stuttered and sacked their manager and went up so we should do that".
