Yes we have a poor team (Collectively) and yes the displays haven't been great but ... We sit 1pt off the playoffs and our form (if taken as read) isn't too bad.

I honestly believe that NA is making the best of a bad situation but 2 or 3 quality signings could turn it round.

However if we look at our recruitment since the Summer we have only made 2 permanent signing and 3 loans so I don't know how hopeful we can be of more permanent signings (even ones of good quality)

But let's give them to the close of play to prove us wrong.

But if we sign no one - or worse still a few five-to-twoers* who we have to do our homework on and find out they've been on the treatment table more than they have been playing or players who are relieved to have been given a contract at 39 then a lot of ST holders need to consider where their hard-earned is really being spent come the summer. Because odds on, when they part with it again, Brayford, Sharp and/or Done will be shipped out as son as the bank transfers have completed.

I can see the point in loans insofar as 'we have a long term injury at left back, the go-to-replacement is also returning from injury/one card away from a jail sentence and every other player we have is right footed'. Also, 'the loanee is a PL/upper Championship second string who is vying for a place in the team against two internationals and needs game-time'.

But bringing in Pete Shitfaced or Dave Bellend from Shrewsbury or McBagpipes Athletic just to make a restless fanbase temporarily silenced (whilst they Google) serves no one any good. Bringing them in to get treatment or sit on the bench, or worse still have sevral thousand Unitedites chorus "Shit Michael Twiss, you're just a shit Michael Twiss!" isn't what I'd call ambition.

I very much think it is how we perceive loans:

1) As pommpey says they serve a purpose e.g to cover injury or as an improvement on what we currently have
2) A way of improving the squad by accessing players of a higher calibre without the long term commitment with the aim of keeping them should it work out.
3) A way of investing a minimal amount in the first team whilst keeping fans happy, no intention of signing them, getting rid of the out of contract players at the end of the year and then investing little/nothing in the first team over the summer.

I have no qualms with loans if done for the first two reasons but fear with too many loan players do you get the same buy in that you would from a 'properly' recruited permanent?

I am happy to let Adkins do the decision making and ultimately be held accountable but only if the board support him in a scenario 1 or 2 situation.
