This year the stars of track, field and pitch will be recognised at a special ceremony at the McDonald St Paul's hotel in Sheffield, on Sunday 3rd December.
The award for 'Sports Personality' is always particularly coveted, because of the special way the winner is chosen. Instead of a panel of judges, this award is decided upon by a public vote.
The search for BBC Yorkshire’s Sports Personality of 2006 is divided into two stages. From 13 November until 19 November, you can nominate whoever you think deserves the accolade - it really is up to you who you put forward for this.
The three sporting stars with the most email and postal nominations then go forward into a week of telephone voting. From 20 November to 24 November you can vote by telephone for the three short listed sport stars.
How to vote
Between 13 November and 19 November you can nominate by e-mail:

Or you can post your suggestions to the following address:
BBC Sports Personality 2006, 2 St Peter's Square, Leeds, LS9 8AH
Once the top three personalities after the initial vote bookmark this page and we'll tell you the names of the top three as voted by the public and give you the telephone number where you can cast your final vote.
Two members of the voting public will be given an invite to attend the awards ceremony in Sheffield and join the region's sporting stars.
