Villa...

Currently showing why you need to play attacking football in the Prem. The fact that we've been so far ahead of them for the past few seasons makes it more annoying. We need to take note! Villa beating Liverpool 4-1 FFS, while we've only scored 1 all season. A midfield that attacks...
And of course they’d have beaten Liverpool with a crowd there 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

You would hope so but I did look into this and apparently, you can keep doing it as much as u like. However, to do it again the club would obviously need to first buy the stadium back in order to sell it again. But the costs of repurchasing of the stadium should be subject to FFP but they do not appear to be. It is definitely an area that FFP needs to fix. I disagree with the whole idea of it as it is not in the spirit of what FFP is about
Premier League FFP is different to the shitstorm that is EFL. They do have a blanket £105m losses a year (although not for last season they have decided!) which must be secured. I can see you front loading a lot of the money spent last year rather than spreading it over a number of years for that reason - be interesting to see what the EPL do about clubs that have done that.

In PL the losses allowed are 35m a year. The 105m is the permitted losses over a 3-year FFP period. In the Championship it is 13m a year or 39m over the 3 year P&S period. You are right that Villa are front loading their spend, although it is still accounted for over 3, 4 or 5 years depending on length of player contracts. Villa will have a reduced spending power next year and the year after unless players are sold to show an accounting profit.

The FFP for 19/20 and 20/21 years are being counted as a single year and taking the average of the 2 years for calculations. An unfair new ruling by FFP is that clubs with wealthy owners are allowed to put extra money into clubs this season to make up for any losses of earnings as a result of Covid. So Man City owners can pump in all the match day revenues lost, merchandising losses, reduced payments from advertisers etc and none of this impacts FFP. This is grossly unfair on clubs that do not have very deep pockets and owners willing to put the cash in.

Sorry it was a typo by me I did mean 3 years. They not wrote the 20/21 into the rules yet just said that 19/20 doesn't count in the calculation.

I have read that it is the average of the 2 years and they are to be counted as a single year. I think the 'logic' behind it is that clubs that would breach FFP last season as a result of reduced revenues now have this season to make up for it by spending less. This is probably why most clubs are spending so little this transfer window. They had to announce it before the season started so clubs could calculate how much of a budget they have

I can't get my head around the money thing. Did anyone expect we'd spend more money than we have since we got to the Prem? I thought we'd spend less. And this transfer window when we brought in Ramsdale I thought that would be us more or less done, and now we've gone and spent on Brewster.

And people can say what they want about our recruitment but last season they would've been laughing at how much Villa were spending on overrated players on huge wages. They look like they've had a really good transfer window this time round but it's on the back of some really poor ones.

As for results, I don't care how good Villa's recruitment has been it isn't good enough to beat Liverpool 7-2. That along with other results and performances is a sign that things are very wrong in football right now. Man U don't concede six goals even with ten men. Man City don't concede five goals at the Etihad, and not to a side that then gets turned over by Wham the week after. These are Champions League teams in utter disarray.

The problems we're having clearly run deep but they also clearly aren't exclusive to ourselves. Unfortunately that won't save us if we don't start getting some points on the board but let's try to maintain some sanity and perspective while whatever is going to happen happens.

Let's be honest. If were Villa fans and we'd just beaten Liverpool 7-2 the last thing on our minds would be how much we'd spent on players. It's a fantastic result and probably won't be done again, we'd all have sticky underpants for the entirety of the international break.

Absolutely. If we pulled off a result like that I'd be talking about it for years. My point though is it's not about that one result it's about the pattern of truly bizarre results we're seeing across the board. That Villa win is the type of thing you expect to see once in a blue moon and not the same weekend Man U lose 6-1 at Old Trafford. We aren't the only fans trying to figure out what the hell is going wrong right now.

The thing is that Liverpool and Man U will win their next 5 and it will be a distant memory come December.

Maybe. Probably even. And we might stay up comfortably and this will be a distant memory like Southend at home. Only point I'm making is that we're not the only team to be looking well out of shape right now so we shouldn't be so quick to start blaming everything on ourselves.

What a shitstain of a club villa are
Sick of their gormy fans comparing the ghost goal to a debatable decision against palace ,Bournemouth should be in the premier league now not them but I've never seen one of them Admit they were lucky

we must in training be taught how to get 3 wicked deflections in our favour every game
and how to get the opposing keeper gift you a goal in the first 2 minutes

of course you play better when you think its your day

Liverpool are leaking goals as they play too high up the pitch
and were missing mane and henderson who normally make the high line work

The writedowns were not playing staff, the playing staff had to be amortised over the terms of their contract. Also, Learner didn't convert debt-equity to cover losses, he converted it so that he could sell the club. Yes, Villa nearly went into administration but that was not due. lack of revenue, it was lack of cash flow and due to changes in Chinese law with regard to monies leaving China for investment into outside companies. Xia had his funds (if he actually had many funds) locked into China. And yes Villa won the 'owner lottery' and that is why they are spending so much but equally teams in the PL have revenues of close to 150m a year. Costs at clubs, particularly newly promoted clubs, come nowhere near 150m a year. Owners of some clubs e.g. Norwich are simply not prepared to spend that money on what they clearly perceive as a high risk. All I am saying is that if clubs are not prepared to spend a larger portion of that money on squad development they will find it nearly impossible to stay in the PL.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say to be honest. I think you're a good example of a rival fan getting all defensive about their own club when my original post was only about attempting to convince other United fans that we cannot possibly compete with clubs who have more money and owners with much deeper pockets.

There is also no comparison at all between the relative histories of Aston Villa and Sheffield United. Anyone knows that.

13 of the current 20 PL clubs have had to be financed either by their owners and/or external sources in the past 5 years, even us to the tune of £20m. Aston Villa have had £224m of funding so it's hardly surprising that some newly promoted clubs don't risk their entire future on it, especially Norwich who were still trying to undo the damage from their previous stay in the league.

Oh, and having checked, at least £34 million of those writedowns in 2016 were on Villa's player contracts.

What is not honest?

What is your source for saying the players were written down? Either way, what difference does it make? A player must be amortised at the initial purchase price. If the club elects to writedown the value in one year it does not change the amount of loss for FFP.

I am not sure what I am defensive about. I am just stating the facts.

Why can't less well-financed clubs spend more? Revenue in the PL warrants greater spending and parachute payments give a safety net on relegation. Owners do not want to take the risk and want to keep the cash in the club / their pockets. Norwich being a prime example. Blades appear to spend to the top end of a sustainable budget: 65m last season and 50m+ this season so far.

Take those 4 goals away and it is still a 3-2 win. Deflections and GK errors are very much a part of football and there are examples of them every weekend.

In normal circumstances I would agree, but in the Covid world I fear what happens to us financially If we go down to the Championship and fans are still not allowed in. The Parachute money would go towards paying off the assets loan and any money from sales of blue chip players would have to go towards running the club Because of no ticket revenue. Where would funds come from for the replacement players we would need?
If fans still aren’t allowed in next season I don’t think football will be our biggest worry.

Why don’t you read his post again? Maybe you’ll understand it. From your reply it seems apparent that you didn’t the first time you read it.

Yes but Liverpool would not have gone into it's all over its not our daymode but for the 3 deflections and would have fought back harder

How is this not preventing a goal scoring opportunity . Burke would have got to thd ball before the keeper but for being held

i didn't watch the game unfortunately, but on the basis of this image and what I've heard, explain to me how this is a different scenario than the one that go Egan sent off against Villa?

Other than the obvious that it would be to our advantage, rather than to our disadvantage.

It was a clear Red, just another example of the inconsistencies in football referring these days

Maybe so but is that not just be highlighting a weakness in Liverpool's approach to a game? Should Klopp not have the team working to win every game and not allowing nor accepting 'day mode'.

Villa made a cock up of their recruitment last season, but it looks as though it's been a lot better this season. Signed established PL quality in Barkley and held onto Grealish.

Once they survivied, they were always going to push on beyond strugglers - given the size of the club and money their chairman invests.

What is not honest?.

I think you're having trouble with comprehension. I didn't say you aren't honest. Maybe it's my accent?

Anyway, my source was Reform Acquisitions Limited annual accounts, note 10. Not that anything I've written has anything to do with FFP, that's not the issue.

As for the utter myth about Premier League earnings, expenditure and owners, I hope you find this chart helpful....
