Still, after nearly going bust 13 months ago I must confess to being excited with being able to spend so much money and buy so many players many of whom seem to be youngish and have potential even if unproven in the prem. I’m not too worried about the financial implications as, unlike with precious buys, many will have decent resale values even if the worst happens.
I’m some ways I’d rather do it Sheff Utd’S way with a squad brought from league 1 through brilliant coaching and tactics. However, you do look unprepared for this division in terms of quality but luckily have a genius of a manager in Chris Wilder who I wanted to come to Villa when we appointed Smith.
I wish Utd all the luck in staying up ( although not at the expense of Villa) and I strongly believe that you can.
I can remember the time our season turned round last year. Sheff Utd were 3 0 up at Villa park and battering us. Thousands of Villa fans had left. We got a corner in front of the Holte with less than 20 minutes left and the crowd suddenly got behind the team big time, some ironically I think. We scored. The crowd stayed behind the team and we scored again. We equalised. We should have snatched the most unlikely, against the form undeserved victory and from then on we went on a run and went up so Sheff Utd have a special place in my heart (sorry guys). It show what you can do if you stay behind your team even in the bad times which I know blades do anyway as you are great fans
Good luck in the premi, trust in Wilder and you have a great chance

Agree, that 3-3 draw was a watershed moment for both clubs and played a massive role in both clubs promotion.

I remember after the match most Blades on this board being so angry (including me)
There were also reports that Henderson nearly came to blows with some of his team mates...feelings were running hjgh
But I said at the time that facing adversity can be character building and said that the shocking loss of 2 points at Villa could ended up being a positive.

Anyhow I’m not surprised that Villa fans are respectful towards us
They all admit that we were easily the best team team they played last season when we outclassed them both home and away.
In the play-off final you also heard Jack Grealish say to Chris Wilder at the end of the match “you were the best team we played this season”.

Our first half performance at home to Villa last season was possibly the most complete 45 mins of football I’ve ever seen from any Blades side. Still gives me shivers now. Devastating.

It's also led to Cabbage Head getting the sack, going to Wednesday and then him dropping them in the shit.
Wonderful.

The aftermath of that game also showed Wilder's brilliance as a manager. Seeing how livid the players were and how much arguing was going on, instead of giving them a bollocking he just left them to it and let them administer their own bollockings which I'm sure allowed the team to recover quickly from such a massive disappointment. Most managers would have tore them a new arsehole. Wilder just left the pressure valve open slightly

I was on holiday abroad for that match, so didn’t attend but I did manage to watch it on IFollow on the iPad, brilliant game.

Also I enjoyed watching the pre and post match review on “The Villa View” channel on YouTube.
Those 2 guys were so upbeat before the match for their visit to Bramall Lane.
During the match they looked sick, one actually said on about 70 minute mark, “have we had a shot yet”
After the match driving home they both looked in total shock and they both agreed it was their worse display in many years.
However I did notice that, yet again, it was opposing fans saying how poor they’d played, instead of saying it was us that played really well.

Wonderful.

Indeed. Just as it led to an increased likelihood that Newcastle will finish below us, a manager at Villa Park who decided not to compete for our targets, summer-long hilarity from armed robbers in Pitsmoor, etc etc etc.

“When a [cabbage] butterfly flaps its wings on the other side of the world ...”, and all that.

Me, I love a bit of chaos theory, me.
