View From Wimbledon

Great stuff Roygbiv I filled the week off gap with the "view from Bolton" stuff but I remain as ever your humble apprentice.

I don't think that Wimbledon played like a team worthy of a 4-0 tonking to be honest. In the three games we've won by that scoreline they looked far better than the other two.
They didn't come here to piss about with ultra-defensiveness or waste time, they went for it. Ultimately their lack of a cutting edge and our inherent quality, particularly in midfield made all the difference.

I was in the unfortunate position today of hoping MK D**s would win and obviously that Wimbledon would lose. I hope never to be in that situation again.

“We were abject, utterly hopeless. Ended up enjoying watching Sheffield’s sharp, incisive, flowing football. They completely outclassed us. Thoroughly deserved their dominant 4-0 win. We were slow, lethargic, clueless.”

Best comment of season for me.

I haven't heard it myself but my dad said Wilder was quoted as saying Sharp loved playing up front with Hanson.

Just looked on the Youtube channel to see his interview and was greeted by this

Nice to see that smile again. Got to love Wilder's post match interviews. He praises the lads when he needs to and he cartainly won't hold back on giving them a grilling and pointing out individual errors when need be. It's hard not to like the bloke especially when he's one of our own.

With the money men in the championship now, is our budget a championship budget like opposition fans seem to suggest. I thought ours wasn't even the biggest in this league anymore? We've not spent out of our means, infact player sales have probably covered expenses. I think we've just built a decent team, and are playing good football instead of buying the league like some fans suggest.
My only worry is that our owners may underestimate what it takes to compete at the top of the Championship if we ever get back to previous levels. There's certainly more money involved. However I don't think the quality has got better....

Agree, Wilder impresses me all the time.

That's the big question.

If promoted this season then would our intentions next season be

1: Mid table consolidation or
2: Compete at the top and go for promotion?

I suspect it might be option 1 just so Wilder can suss out the league. Remember he's no experience of Championship football, althou he had no experience of league 1 level football either before joining us.

Then the 2nd season Wilder will know more about what he wants, so I think serious money will only be spent in the 2nd season.

Losing is okay but we should at least go down fighting.

This is the mentality that we didn't have under Adkins, and often under Clough at times too.
We are a totally different beast under Chris Wilder though.

I really rate Jake Reeves and enjoyed watching him play yesterday (No.8); he looks a leader to me for his age.

Saw him play v us for Brentford that fateful night at Bramall Lane in the play offs and folloed him since. For years I've hoped we'd sign him but all of a sudden we don't need him. He is young though and has loads of improvement in him.

"Sheffield Utd are a different league to us in almost every aspect except that we’re both in the same league.”

Profound.

Bold statement, but this could be my all time favourite 'view from..' quote.

That's right up there with a Terry Venables quote years ago:

"Apart from their goal, Norway haven't scored." :D

Oh, and Tony Agana. Your namesake was in the directors box yesterday looking amazingly well. Also saw Dave Bassett and his wife (Christine?) going for half time refreshments. Pity he didn't come on the pitch to acknowledge both sets of fans.

I was going to post about him myself. I thought he was excellent yesterday - worked hard throughout, showed for the ball at all times and was good when he had it. Not sure that we don't need him. We've got some very good midfielders and the addition of Carruthers guarantees competition for places but Duffy is 31 and Coutts 28 and any injury could leave us exposed so I'd be quite happy to see us linked with a lad like that.

I am glad you have gone back to making it up Royston much, much more enjoyable read, I lied when I said I enjoyed being called a dirty northern bastard, well done pal.

would remind everyone
on our last promotion from this level
we followed it up with a swift return to the top league finishing second on gd to leeds

and no one saw that happening, including me

Can't help but admire the real Wimbledon especially when our fans applauded them before kick off after Gary Sinclair's welcome comment. Made me even more proud to be a Blade hearing the applause all around the ground.

Made even better afterwards when we hear that rivals Bolton only managed a draw against the Fake Wimbledon.

not saying it can't be done I just think it's highly unlikely. Personally McCabe has put so much spin on his interviews in the past that I find it hard to believe that his words claiming the prince is the real deal to be true. Maybe it's just me?

We have never played against Brentford in a play off match

At last a grown up post and you are correct in that vital information. It was the critical match to get into the play-offs maybe. Stick to history and facts Silent. Horses for courses. You probably didn't even notice Reeves.

831 is a really decent away support, especially with it being all ticket.

Can't fault their support.
But was it really all ticket for them.
If it is why, not saying it would have made much difference but some fans might not decide to go until Friday night Saturday morning.
Can understand Bradford, Chesterfield, Scunthorpe and Bolton and possibly Millwall ( for different reasons) but not any others being all ticket.
